2013 Worlds Ladies FS

You can't be a mouth breather as a competitive athlete.
Good thing I'm not a competitive athlete, then, lol! But anyway, how would it help Caro if she couldn't even breath because of the blood/clots/whatever? Wouldn't even a headcold take you out of it, then? I mean, you can take meds, but it's not a cure-all.

Anyway, I find it all pretty fascinating since, as I said, it's not something I have experience with.

Totally agree - it's a fun place to be :-)

Also, congratulations to the site owner for creating such a fabulous hub for figure skating fans. Thank you for upgrading your servers (no crashes at all! :)!), thank you for keeping it free and open as it obviously isn't free for you. I'm not sure where to post this so I hope you're reading lol

The crazy thing is, Yuna is the ONLY skater whom I can watch and not even consider the possibility of her falling. It just...doesn't happen. Wouldn't happen. She's INSANELY secure.

I know what you mean. The only other skater remotely similar was the Kween.

I add my thanks to GS. I didn't have any feed at all, and getting to hear everyone's analysis kept me informed...and I could vent my anxieties on here as well. Great job, forum leaders!

I don't know whether to be happier for the longtime great skaters like YuNa, Mao, and Carolina or the newcomers like Li, Gold, and Osmond. I'm just thrilled for everyone, except poor Akiko.

And so relieved that it wasn't a splatfest. After the men's, I was beginning to wonder whether they'd frozen something else to make the ice in the rink instead of water. This ladies' free skate (and the ice dance) redeemed the competition.

This was the most underwhelming performance from Yuna I remember seeing. Great jumps but the program was meh. She deserves better choreography.
  :p

I'm sorry, Ziggy, I really like and respect you as a poster, but this...:laugh:

You wouldn't believe it. She was holding her nose for a minute. Blood on kleenex. Blood on her hand. I was like, crap crap crap. This headcase is going to explode.
The Brits were like, oh mother, FML, that kind of things.
The audience did a small little clap. People were getting nervous. I think they think she's going to blow her brain out and ruin Osmond's chance.
Then, she did a pow wow with her coach. Then the Brits said tension can help stopping the nose bleed.
Then she skated around the ring with her hand pressed up her nose.
I was leaking!

Then she got into her opening pose. Looked calm down. I wish I was as calm. Then she landed the 3Lutz. Then I peed my pants. :)

You have the post of the day IMHO!

agree...not worse but they won't be contenders with these seniors + some of these amazing young girls from China, US and Canada

Yeah sotnikova and tuktamisheva are being buried by a stronger field and can't compete against them for medals or top 5 and barely top 10

Yes, thanks to Paula, Doris and all the other great crew at GS for making this site awesome.

And while I don't always agree with all of you....disagreement and humor makes things entertaining.

:rock::yay:great job ashley & gracie for getting 3 spots, good job japan for 3 spots, korea for getting 3 spots I hope that is correct . Great job kaetkyn m2 spots, RRussia for 2 spots. Commendble job onyour1st worlds : gracie, kaetlyn, adelina, elizaveta, zijun. Yuna welcome back, thank you all ladies for making it a good competition. Thank youjudge for your help. Thank you canada ,a
& london, ontario for hosting. China 2 spots Pp

Yea, then at the end you have to wonder will the Russian Fed choose who they want to send to worlds and olympics and disregard placements as they did this year for the men. Heck Russia might do that within every discipline, because the FED lacks poise and character IMHO. I'm hoping they surprise me though and do right by their athletes.

Well, I was just looking at the protocols, and Mao basically matched Yuna's GOEs in everything except her flips and lutz. If Mao can just get those up to pat somehow during the off season, as well as bring up the triple-axel another notch, she can beat Yuna.

The judges must thank Kim for her undoubtful triumph. And all the awkward judging in this event should be reviewed before the next season.

Ksenia Makarova maybe isn't looking so bad anymore. And whatever happened to sink Alena Leonova's ship so quickly over the course of one year?!

Makarova with her score from last year would have been lucky to finish in the top 16 in this field.

Anyway, I'm SO happy that I switched shifts at work so I could watch this live! Shibs and C/B do well. Marlie winnnn!!! Gracie and Ashley pretty much hit and get those magical three slots back. It wasn't a splatfest. And all the medalists were so deserving! WOOT WOOT WOOT. Reminds me why I love skating. :)

As far as the podium goes, I would argue for Mao above Kostner, but I can see why it is what it is. Mao dug herself a hole in the SP, but on the other hand Carolina was a bit overmarked in the SP. Either way, it's a similar situation to Gracie and Ashley at Nats; solid arguments for both. Mao had a more solid free-skate, but Carolina really SOLD her program and I enjoyed watching it. If she had faked the ending of her program so the fall looked like it was choreography, it would be the most awesome thing ever, lol.

Akiko has to be somewhat worried here. Miyahara beat her at nationals and Hongo is breathing down her neck.

Adelina and Elizaveta didn't really do badly here. If Liza hadn't completely bombed the short and Adelina had performed just slightly better in both segments they may have had it.

They're expected to dominate for some reason I don't get. It reminds me of last year when Adelina debuted on the GP and got two bronze medals and that was somehow a huge disappointment.

Damn, Kim is back for sure...and set herself up as the one to beat for Sochi. Definitely one of a kind. Thank goodness for Kim, really, because I'll be honest with you - I didn't want Kostner to win again...

Honestly, I have mixed feelings over the results - on one hand I was a little let down by Wagner's performance, but on the other I'm thrilled that FINALLY we have that 3rd spot back - and just in time for the Olympics! Now let's not waste it next year and let's choose three of the most deserving skaters next year to go. More thoughts to come on that in the American women thread...
