I understand completely why Yulia would have wanted to just hibernate for a while after the FS, but keep wondering what happened that her coach didn't keep her on track.

I remember at one of the summer Olympics a U.S. boxer came running into the venue just as his bout was scheduled to start -- a minute too late. He had been disqualified. The coach had misread the schedule. Unused to a twenty-four hour clock the coach had misread 1400 hours as 4:00 PM. He thought he had got his guy there two hours early in plenty of time.

Ouch. The fine is one thing but withholding the stipend (if it turns out to be more than a thread) is like being out of a job for 3 months with no pay. That seems a little OTT to me.

I am a bit miffed with Eteri in all this. I'm don't agree the fed should punish Yulia too but instead Eteri. She too was not answering her phone and it sounds like she left Yulia in the hotel and returned to watch the Men's and pairs events. This isn't to remove blame but instead simply say Eteri has a responsibility to Yulia to keep her informed and on time at the very least. But I guess I don't know how the financials break down so its likely if Yulia gets dinged so too does Eteri. Anyone know how this works?

Yulia is old enough to know her own schedule. But I totally believe it was an accident.

Yes and no. If you are an elite athlete, you have obviously overcome a lot of obstacles/issues. You have to develop mental toughness. Reminds me of 88 and Battle of the Brians. Orser had like a team of ten, sports psych, dietician, trainer, coach, etc. Boitano was asked what his 'team' was and he just said it was Linda and all those others would hamper him.

Julia just needs to be herself, faulty technique and all. We all knew from the axel to the shaky edges on lutz/flip that she didn't have sound technique. She will likely fizzle like Meissner. But she had her moment. And her talent was recognized on a worldwide basis. I find her captivating to watch. I'm cringing thinking about her this season. The bad technique will always come back to bite you. Liza always had solid technique, and she went through her slump but she has the technique.

No, to be honest, I don't see. I don't understand why someone who'd never even watched Yulia skate would care much about this--to the extent of "cannot let it go until she apologizes!" If one of the Chinese pairs outside of Peng/Zhang didn't show up for the CoC podium, I wouldn't particularly care for a reason. I wouldn't even care for an apology. It's not interesting to me at all. But I would defend them if someone attacked them.

There were so many injuries in the beginning of the season! We changed three pairs of skates. We decided that in the new season the boots and blades have to be new. In the end, it turned out to be a bad idea. I got a blister on the very first day, a huge one. It became inflamed, the leg started to hurt, and I was told there were some compactions that disrupt the blood flow in the leg. We had to do injections to solve them. Lost even more time.
I used the same brand of skates for 11 years, but there were problems all the time. The boots were always broken on the second day, they needed to be reinforced, to be tied tighter.

Now I switched to the new model. They felt like slippers to me, so unsual. On the first day I couldn't even understand what I was skating on. I got used to it, thank God, but still I don't feel 3F-3T and 3Lz-3T combinations in these boots, they are too soft. It's still scary to do it on full speed as I did before. So in short, there are lots of problems, it's very unsettling.
