2014 Nebelhorn Trophy

But the system has no requirement for them! It's highest score wins and that's it. Look at browns pcs! He never has to do a quad and knows it! It you have a jump you do it! Every single person who has done quads successfully never ever said "I'm working on it and will put it in later" or " I'll use it when I need it".
Oh please, Jason has good choreoraphy and presentation, overall entertaining package that's why his PCS is high even though his speed on ice is not really ideal. If he wants to put quad into his programs then it's his choice. If not then no problem at all.

Shame about the axel...

Honestly I don't 'get' all the anger at Jason Brown and his sizable lead.

The way the system is currently set up, the highest score wins. Each element is worth a given amount of points. If you get the point to add up to the highest number, you win! There is no mystery. It is no good to do a quad and then fall or single your other jumps. While doing a quad gives you an advantage (and a fairly sizable one at that) whether a quad is 'needed' to win will depend on how the rest of the skates go on a given day. This is no top secret mystery.

If Jason wants to be able to win when other top skaters skate cleanly, he needs a quad. If the other skaters can't manage to do both a quad and a clean program, that's not his fault or problem.

His PCS are generally deserved.

Exactly. It's not a problem and will never be a problem. He could've won the Olympics.

Exactly. I don't understand why people are like. "He needs a quad" "he's going to add a quad". Why would he do that?

For the love of QUAD

Jason still would lead if he had tried it and fallen, two-footed,or underrotate. To play it safe just doesn't do it for me.

I am a Fan, you are an athelete, give me what I want! I want a Quad.......................and I know Jason wants one too.

I have no problem at him leading here, since Brezina wasn't clean and definitlly doesn't have the same quality of spins and ss as Jason. I think 83 or maybe 82 is a reasonable score for this program, but I wouldn't go higher than that.

I swear I am going to create a Jason Brown Quad comment drinking game, but I am not sure my liver can take it. People are so obsessed with it, and I am not sure it is even worth the risk physically for him at this competition, strategically he just does not need to right now. I would rather an attractive triple to a wonk quad any day. So many skaters seem to put quads in their program hoping to land them rather than expecting too.

It is not supposed to be jumping competition. Maybe we should start pushing for one (sorta like the vault in gymnastics) let the skaters that are quad masters go out and show off only doing jumps, reward them for it, celebrate it, encourage them to try harder stuff. Then for the main programs, encourage them to aim for positive GOE on all jumps rather than highest total score.

It's a balancing act to be sure, but there is supposed to be a balance.

I wish they actually had this. It would add another event to the Olympics. I remember about ten years ago there was a JUMP competition but, it never took off.

To quad or not to quad that is the question in mens is it not?

I applaud Jason for NOT going with a quad and instead giving me a quality skate with the jumps he CAN do. I am so sick of people trying quads and falling on their behinds. It is dangerous for the skater and interrupts the flow of the program. If a quad is required then call it the "jumping bean contest" instead of figure skating.

Let's be realistic here....He had no chance for gold or silver after SP. Maybe bronze at his best but that required even more poorly skates from his competitors.

I'm a little bit disappointed with Voronov's score...I like his program and even costume :slink: I wish him better FS.
And I really like Brezina but he needs more speed and TR in his program :(

I'm just happy to hear his triple axel is back. It wasn't really there in his last competition IIRC.

Thank you for the updates, sequinsgalore. I've been peeking in at the thread all day. :)

So far, really enjoyed Jason (as I think we all did), but I was positively impressed artistically by both Russians... Let's see how our Italian-Russian does now ;)
