Is there a reason these are called the 2016 nationals when they happen 2015? Weird question, I know. Good luck to all the skaters and I hope you have the performances of your lives. Sending my very best wishes to all of you from California........You can do it. :yahoo:

Oh, this is a real pet hate of mine! Championships held at the end of one year that have the following year in the official title.

The reason is that this is effectively a qualifying competition for the 2016 European Championships and 2016 World Championships. So, for the sake of continuity, these "qualifying events" are given the same date.

I don't like it either, but hey!

Any word of who will definitely be competing at Senior Nationals yet? I would kinda like to start the Predictions Game thread soon.

So if I'm right (especially I'm not sure about "ties"):
Girls
qualified from JGP (7) : Fedichkina, Mikhailova, Mitrofanova, Pervushkina, Sakhanovich, Sotskova, Tsurskaia
qualified from Russian cup (11) : Gubanova (36 pts), Tarusina (34), Nugumanova (34), Lozko (32), Konstantinova (26), Kostornaia (26), Tarakanova (24), Samodurova (22), Mukhortova (22), Zagitova (20), Kurakova (14)
1st alt: Pavlova (12), 2nd alt: Yushchenko (12)
Will still be 11 years old during the junior nationals...

Let's see if she can break Anastasia Gubanova's record for 11-year-olds in Russian jr. nationals(173.71). It still wouldn't exactly be fair though, considering that she's a season ahead and will be about 8 months older than Gubanova was at the time. Serafima Sakhanovich did get 191.55 points when she was 12... But Gubanova's on the equivalent season so maybe it'd be okay if she beats that.

If he will withdraw, then based on the rules he should to be replaced by first substitution - Murad KURBANOV. Though I think that Zhan BUSH will compete instead of him by Fed. decision, but it is just my guess based on previous years, when Fed. made the decisions based on their own interests. I wouldn't mind if Volosozhar/Trankov didn't compete. They are good enough to be sent to Europeans or worlds without competing at the nationals. At least some other pairs would get chance to compete at the nationals. From the juniors, Gubanova/Sintsov need to attend the nationals because the next season they will be too old for juniors, so it is in their interest to start measuring themselves against the current seniors. But the other three junior pairs who qualified to the senior nationals don't really need it because they will be at junior level for a few more seasons. It would be nice to see Biryukova at the nationals, and also Kuznetsova/Stepanov. How can those pairs get better if they are never sent anywhere internationally and not invited to the nationals?

Qualifying to Senior Pairs is very difficult. A total of 12 places available but 7 are gone pairs who competed on the SGP with 4 going to pairs who made the JGPF which leaves only 1 available spot for all other pairs. It leaves it very difficult for a new pair to break through. I like Efimova/Korovin so I am glad they made but you have other couples missing out like;

Biryukova/Filonov - they are improving from competition to competition
Kuznetsova/Stepanov - a pair would good potential
Lukashevich/Stepanov - Seen them in Challenger Series in Tallinn. Impressive on TES but I felt they were harshly marked on PCS, again good potential.
Chernyavskaya/Souza Corderiou - A nice stylish couple, ambitious TES but generally have a few mistakes
Shevchenko/Bich - I always liked him with his previous partner, again they have potential.

I don't think any of the above couples will be challenging for a podium at Russian Nationals but competing at this level would hopefully give opportunities to compete abroad be it at SGP, Challenger Series or other International events. I'm sure there are more I have missed out on.

With it being an extremely competitive field in Juniors, I wonder would the Juniors be better to focus on the Junior Nationals and ensure that they get a ticket to worlds. There is potentially 6 teams that could place top 3, I like G/S programmes but there is a chance they might not make the team. I would think that M/M and U/V have a chance to place well in juniors.

Not very high level competitors.

1st in Ladies Maria Sheveleva (born at 2003, Omsk city) score 150.31
In SP step-out from 3Lz, no combo. (updated)
5 triples in FS (and two doubled triples - Salchov and Toeloop), repeated 3Lz and 3Lo.
May be much better if skates more clean.

Others are much weaker.

Here is her:
SP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAmLzHUVmtA
FS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UqqpEVW8qE

She's really outgrown her coaching environment and needs to go somewhere else to get the rest of her jumps.

Junior Ladies after JrNats

Unfortunately only 6 Ladies at JrNats skated on their level - Top7 except Sotskova.
All others may better or much better.

Top 3 - Tsurskaya, Sotskova, Fedichkina - are preparing to YOG and JrWorlds and don't need domestic competitions at the rest of season.

Others have chance to compete at national level competitions:
Final of Russian Cup (16-20 Feb). It is in fact invitational Event, RusFed solves who will compete, up to 12 spots (may be less).
Zhuk Memorial (3-7 Mar) - only age eligible (born at 2003-2004) Tarusina, Mukhortova, Tarakanova, and not competed at JrNats strong girl Kostornaya (all four from Moscow). Moscow Qualifiers will be 26-29 Jan.
Spartakiad (23-28 Mar). Many winter sports, including figure skating.
Nationals Elder Age (1-4 Apr). Moscow Qualifiers 23-26 Feb.

On results of JGP, JrNats and these competitions will be made Team Russia next season (parts Junior, Girls&Boys).
Results are important for including in JGP Events-2016 Team, too.

Nugumanova, Lozko, Samodurova, Tarusina may show that their high places at JrNats are really result of their high level, others - that their real level is better than at JrNats.
