2016-17 Russian Qualifiers and other events

Alexandra has a huge 2A so I expected her to try 3A some time soon. With the way she's doing it, and if she can perfect it, I think she has a good chance of keeping this jump as a senior as well.

Her skating is still a bit crude, but I can see a lot of improvement within recent months, and if there's a good place for a skating girl to learn smoothness and sophistication, she's there right now. Also this 2A into one-foot wiggle into biellmann spiral into 3-turns into twizzle into camel spin all on the same foot is a ridiculously difficult transition.

Viktoria Vasilieva has also big and solid 2A. She reminds me mix of Japanese and Russian skaters in one person. In the end of the last season she won almost everything. But now she struggle with some problems. :( I didn't see her name in list of stages Russian Cup or how it calls. I want to see her at Junior RusNats.

The Finn mentioned her in his qualifications post, she took 2nd and 4th place at cup events and most certainly qualifies for junior nationals.

I agree that she has a quality 2A, but in her case it's more of a long jump than a high jump. Perhaps the most impressive of her jumping arsenal for me is 2A-1Lo-3F combo, which is probably the best -1Lo- combo I've ever seen from anybody.

Stanislava Konstantinova: 2nd and 2nd
Valeria Mikhailova: 2nd and 4th
Anastasia Kolomiets: 4th and 3rd

There are 6 spots available. Ogoreltseva and Konstantinova have qualified already. One would think Fedichkina, Lozko and Nugumanova will make it if they skate at the 5th event.
Shouldn't there be 10 (or 9 considering Artemieva) spots left after the GP assignment skaters?
I appreciate all the hard work. Well done and thx for keeping us updated!

Who is Avstriskaya? Why is she appearing on Challenger Series?

Who is Avstriskaya? Why is she appearing on Challenger Series?

She is one of Inna Goncharenko's students, she is born in 2000. Her results haven't been great so far, she has scored above 150 points only a couple of times.

It looks like she will get two CS event this season because she is on the entry list of Golden Spin of Zagreb also. Maybe others weren't interested in these competitions, better her than no skater at all.

I have updated this earlier post of mine.

About Russian Championships qualification.

Already qualified based on GP assignment(s).

Pairs. Pairs have 12 spots total.
Ksenia Stolbova / Fedor Klimor. They have Withdrawn from their GP events but nevertheless they can skate here if they want to.
Evgenia Tarasova / Vladimir Morozov
Yuko Kavaguti / Alexander Smirnov
Natalja Zabijako / Alexander Enbert
Kristina Astakhova / Alexei Rogonov
Alisa Efimova / Alexander Korovin
Vera Bazarova / Andrei Deputat. They withdrew from their GP event. Don't really know if they have qualified or not.

Already qualified based on making it to the JGP Final.

Pairs
Anastasia Mishina / Vladislav Mirzoev
Alina Ustimkina / Nikita Volodin
Amina Atakhanova / Ilia Spiridonov
Aleksandra Boikova / Dmitrii Kozlovskii
Ekaterina Borisova / Dmitry Sopot

Qualification standings after 4 events. Those who are already qualified are excluded here.

Pairs
Anastasia Poluianova / Maxim Selkin: 1st and 2nd
Bogdana Lukashevich / Alexander Stepanov: 2nd and 1st
Elizaveta Zhuk / Egor Britkov: 2nd and 3rd

Have skated only one event so far
Maria Chuzhanova / Denis Mintsev: 3rd
Lina Kudryavtseva / Egor Zakroev: 4th

It is really difficult to say how many spots are available because 5 junior pairs have made it to the JGP final and quite a few of them might want to take part to the senior championships, especially since some of them have competed in senior events already. Assuming 3 junior pairs will skate here then there are only 2 open spots. If that would be the case then Poluianova/Selkin and Lukashevich/Stepanov would be the ones who would make it. I really hope Russian Fed will allow 15 pairs to compete here because otherwise good pairs like Zhuk/Britkov and Chuzhanova/Mintsev doesn't make it. This is especially true if 4 or even 5 junior teams decides to skate at the senior championships. In that case even Poluianova/Selkin wouldn't make it.

Now that we know that Bazarova/Deputat have split up there will be one more open spot. One more spot is still not enough and hopefully Russian Fed will allow more than 12 pairs to compete here.

It has been a great day for Russian ice dancers.

Ekaterina Bobrova / Dmitri Soloviev 72.98 at Warsaw Cup. It wasn't their PB but a great score nevertheless.
Alexandra Stepanova / Ivan Bukin 72.09 PB at CoC
Victoria Sinitsina / Nikita Katsalapov 70.24 PB at CoC
Tiffany Zahorski / Jonathan Guerreiro 69.06 PB at Warsaw Cup

We'll have to see how this plays out in the FD, because so far I/Z is falling to fifth place as of now - of course, we have to see how the five teams will score in the same competition.

Who is Avstriskaya? Why is she appearing on Challenger Series?
Her mother Marina Avstriyskaya is former pair skater (9th place at Olympics-1984), now Technical Specialist in single and pair skating. He is in Technical Panel at various Moscow competitions.

5th stage of Russian Cup

Entries and results
http://www.fsrussia.ru/results/1617/5etap/index.htm

Some entries.
Junior ladies: Panenkova, Trusova, Talalaykina, Tarakanova
Ladies: Fedichkina, Solovyeva. For some reason Lozko isn't here, maybe she is injured. Anyway, she has skated only one Russia cup event which means no senior championships for her.
Junior men: Efimchuk, Frolov. No Kondratyuk, he was 2nd at his 1st event.
Men: Erokhov, Kurbanov, Samoylov, Lezheyev.
Junior pairs: Pavlyuchenko/Khodykin. A lot of pairs are skating their 3rd event, like Kvartalova/Sviatchenko, Osipova/Gallyamov and Makarova/Shulgin
Pairs: Chuzhanova/Mintsev. No Kudryavtseva/Zakroev which is no surprise since people are saying they have split up.
Junior Ice dance: Loboda/Drozd, Skoptsova/Aleshin
Ice dance: Stavitskaia/Bagin, Sosnitskaia/Golovishnikov

Junior ice dance has ended but not one video has been uploaded. I wonder what is up with that?

Anyway, Loboda/Drozd are 1st after SD and Skoptsova/Aleshin are 2nd as expected but it is very interesting that Elizaveta Khudaberdieva / Nikita Nazarov, who are 3rd after SD, scored only about 2.5 points less than Skoptsova/Aleshin. Khudaberdieva/Nazarov had the same TES as Skoptsova/Aleshin. Well done by pretty unkown team. This competition is their 2nd competition. Khudaberdieva is a newbie in ice dancing but Nazarova is not. One of his former partners is Skoptsova.
