I didn't watch China-Japan but I was quite schocked at results. Did Japan played with their reserve squad or smth? Or China suddenly got so strong? Our guys need to look out for them!

Match was quite even but China played better in block and serve.

I didn't count when I was watching, but I heard that Japan lost 16 points by serve errors :bang: Looks like the chance of qualification of Japan is slim but I hope they will be able to win one more game at least...

From rules I read, the best Asian has a spot + top 3. If best Asian team is in top 3, then the 4th team also qualify, so they still have a chance. Though I guess they will need to improve their game by much and hope that Iran will be in top3 and they end up on 4th place.

Does the thread also deal with beach volleyball at the Olympics? I love the sport during summer.

If the rules are the same of Women's qualification, we can easily say that top 4 teams will qualify, since one of the Asian/Australian team will be in top4 for sure.
Don't forget that Australia is considered an Asian team in volleyball! So it will be very very hard for Japan...

True! Okey, Japan vs Poland now

EDIT: We finally won in straight sets! Lots of failing in serve from both sides, but I was impressed by Ishikawa.

OMG!!!! :jaw::jaw::jaw:

4th set of France - Australia has ended at 44-42!!!!!!!!!!
Poor Australia, they really needed that point.... They still have to face two Asian opponents but Canada seems to have an easier path now (given that Iran will be in top3)... And China still has to face all of its direct opponents... it'll be very interesting till the end!

Yuki Ishikawa?? He played in Modena (Italy) two seasons ago and he really gave a good impression! Honestly he was a bench player and played very little, but everytime he entered the court, he was always efficient! I hope he'll be back some day :)

What happened to Poland? They lost the first two sets but then smashed China.... BTW, till now China is the surprise of the tournament

We just love playing tie-breaks :)

Too bad that Japan lost to Iran. Now Japan has only theoretical chances for Rio.

Yup, we are specialists at palying tie breaks  Too bad Ishikawa isn't playing in European club anymore, maybe in some less known where he would be a main player, I think he would have benefited from that. And after today, I think Japan is out of Rio, though there will be interesting fight between China and Candada for the fourth spot!

Watching the Webcast the commentator is cracking me up. Some of the most creative and/or broken metaphors ever. Is he on-site?

I think after today we can say that Poland, France and Iran are qualifying for Rio for sure and the match between Canada and China on Sunday will be fascinating

EDIT: I forgot about Australia. If they wil win with Japan, they have statistically chances too. But they play with China and Poland on weekend, so they would have to make a big suprise to qualify.

China has again showed they're really fighting for a place, I see them a bit stronger than Australia right now... (I wonder if Australia did the best choice when they trained and planned two friendly matches in Italy right before the tournament... I mean, Italy and Japan are "a bit" far)

China - Canada will be the crucial match

And about FIVB commentators.... :dbana: They seem to be completely ignorant about the sport! They don't understand the challenges, they can't pronounce the names, and many more...

 I hope they will make good use of next four years to train, they can't be taller but there are many aspects they have to improve.
Japanese women's team qualified in Rio, so I will cheer for them :hap10:

The rest of the matches are going to be exciting!!

Congratulations Canada!!
We said CAN-CHN was decisive and, at the end, who won it, got the last ticket.

The Olympic Groups should be:

Brasil, Italy, Usa, France, Canada, Mexico

Poland, Russia, Argentina, Iran, Cuba, Egypt

Wow, today's results where kind of bizzare. Did France played with their reserve team? Or has Japan played so well? I'm not happy that Poland has Iran in a group, they seem to have some recipe on how to beat us :( And it's going to be ugly in Poland vs Russia....

To me, it seems that France didn't make a big effort, since they were sure of the qualification.

Watching the Olympic groups, the first 4 teams per group are almost done. Canada is a decent team but not enough to make surprises. On the other group, I'm expecting Argentina to finally step it up. Cuba is a BIG question mark.... I think we all know the actual situation.... They really wasted a ton of talent because of their politics... But, who knows, maybe Cuba will show new amazing young players.

I've read somewhere that 1st team will play against 4th (and this is obvious) BUT 2nd and 3rd teams will be drawn, maybe to avoid any kind of agreement...

Yes, France played with their reserve team according to the Japanese reporter (and I was relieved Japan could win :p).
