I just read the "big announcement" (there's a link to it from the story in post #37), and I agree. No third dance or pairs entry on each team. Also, in determining the team results, scores are added together, but some are dropped. For a team, 2 ladies, 2 men, one dance, and one pair are counted. Thought it looks like the prize money is divvied up equally between all team members, except for a extra bonus (not part of the team "pot") to skater/entry with highest score (in at least singles, maybe all categories; I've closed up the window and didn't take notes).

So, thought the format is different from the WTT one, it still emphasizes singles skating over pairs and dance by allowing more singles entries and (because of the more entries) having them count more, overall.

Also, note that skaters nominated for the third spot must be entered for worlds. So Ilinykh/Zhiganshin would probably be out even if there were a vote for dance. Which there won't be.

There is something odd about the the fact that some of the skaters that qualify for being top of standings do not have to go to world, but the "fan vote" skaters do. :scratch3:

I think the world's rule is a silly one that almost defeats the purpose of the fan vote. It also kinda makes team captain's role in NA a bit silly. I mean they don't have a lot of choices.

I still really hate that Australia/Oceania seems to have been left out entirely. That serves no good purpose. Unless they want to add another team down the road.... be fun to show off all the Dodds.

Keeping the fan voting limited to those who go to Senior Worlds makes it easier to implement the fan voting system and increases the chance that whoever is picked is prepared. I'm not a fan of the fan voting... and my favotite skater won't be at worlds... but this is probably the best way to go.

Perhaps the rule is to prevent team captain from naming skaters retired from competition?

I think the whole world should be included, though this year the only actually skaters who might have qualified are from Australia.

I thought there was an "Americas team" that included all of the Americas, but it's actually listed as "North America" and restricted to Canada and the US. Is that just in case Mexico tried to get uppity and think they are part of our continent? Why not include the rest of the Americas (North, Central, South)? They may not have skaters now, but it would be nice to at least theoretically include them.

Similarly, based on geography, they should include Africa with Europe and Australia/Oceania/Antarctica with Asia. Why not?

Team Australia/Oceania for this year would be:

MEN - Brendan Kerry, Andrew Dodds, Jordan Dodds
LADIES - Kailani Craine, Brooklee Han, Chantelle Kerry
PAIRS - Paris Stephens/Matthew Dodds, Jessica Rotondo/Ryan Dodds (they are a Jr pair though)
ICE DANCE - Emily Pike/Patrick Adderley, Matilda Friend/William Badoui

In future years there might be a couple more NZ skaters. Loads of potential depth there too - James Min, Charlton Doherty are still Juniors for now! Sure, this team probably wouldn't medal, but they'd be the most Awesome team there.

I really don't know if I should post this, but I just signed into Facebook there now, and one of my friends (but not one that I know through skating; I know this one through motorbike racing) has posted a link to a story about Spokane.

I won't post the link here, as this is a family website. But the story is from the website of Maxim magazine. And it is about the staff in some coffee shops wearing, well, very little. (Just their underwear).

But, about a minute into the accompanying video, one of the council representatives is talking about it. And, he looks a little bit like our very own Spokane resident, CoyoteChris!

So, if anybody is going to the TCC, just be prepared that you might see more than you bargained for when you go to get a coffee.

First, thanks for calling my compatriot Michael "awesome" Doris. As karne noted, however, the Philippines is in Asia along with figure skating powerhouses Japan and China; and also Uzbekistan, which Misha Ge represents. If ever Michael will be up for online fan voting, I hope there will be the same level of support given to him by our fellow Filipinos as that for Ms. Philippines in the recent Ms. Universe. But alas, I don't think there is the same level of interest.

Based on the results from Nationals and that Carolina is attempting to compete at Worlds this year, some of the skaters (in red) on the invitation list is very likely (or already determined) to not be able to compete at Worlds in Boston. It would be great to see them to compete in US at TTC if they choose to participate.

Jason was the highest ranked North American skater as of 1/1/2016 - #5 in the world. So he doesn't need to rely on the fan vote.
