I'm not all that surprised since he's in SOI Tokyo, Pairs/Ice Dance have only one day of competition, Men/Ladies have two and one less day to rest.

Yuzuru has shows in Japan too? Has any of his shows been confirmed?

I certainly hope not. I would personally be surprised if he did given the Japanese support for the event.

Happy for Brezina getting to do a team event.

Not happy about this "3 continents" crap that they are doing to really try to make sure we know they are trying to exclude South America and Australia. I have no idea why they think it is a good thing, and no idea why they want to draw attention to it.

Those using the phrase "3 continents" are not from USFS or the ISU or any official body involved in TCC.

"They" who are drawing attention to "3 continents" are critics who have no official connection to TCC.

The rules and format are what they are. I understand that some people don't like them and anyone is free to voice her/his opinion, but I don't think USFS is going out of its way to trumpet the exclusion of any countries. Quite the contrary.

ETA, correction:

Thx to Stitch for setting me straight that USFS itself in fact is using the concept of "3 continents" for marketing purposes. My ignorance/mistake.

Who is "Potato King"?

Off topic -- If the North Korean pairs skaters go, they will not be able to buy new skates in the U.S. and take them back home. "Sports equipment" is one of the "luxury items" on the banned list, according to the sanctions resolution that was passed this morning by the U.N. Security Council.

If Yuzu declines, does anyone know who is next? It would probably be Yan Han and D10 right?
No, if Yuzu declines, there's a list of alternative Japanese men ranking higher than Yan Han, Shoma, Mura, Daisuke, and there's also Misha from UZB.

YAS to this.

Actually I think "They" got it from the videos that USFSA appear to be producing but are at a minimum promoting. It is possible that it is more Team Challenge Cup that is to blame, but USFSA is still passing it on.

There was a similar video for team NA that had the same 3 continents language and image excluding Australia and South America.

Here is a screen shot of what I am talking about more specifically... in case it is easier for anyone

They did not have to use that language, or that image to promote the event, but they did.

Michal Brezina, its what they call 4th place finishers (there are speculations about where this comes from but noone seems certain about it) and Michal has way too many 4th place finish

Thx for bringing the video to my attention, Stitch. (I have been following only the press releases.)

Apologies that I had not seen USFS' own usage of "3 continents" in its marketing.

Agree that it is bad form.

No need to apologize. I missed it on the NA one to be honest, and had to go looking for it after seeing the team Europe one. So it was easy to miss.

I believe he's confirmed shows (FaOI, DOI) are from late May to July. Japan has a very complicated system of ice shows like no where else. Maybe someone else can explain this better. But from what I know, Yuzu normally spend April-May doing school work and chronograph new programs for the next season, and then return to Japan for ice shows and other activities.

Nice find, Stitch! Should put to rest these claims that '3 continents' was invented by disgruntled critics, as it's part of the USFS promotion for TCC.

MEN
Sergei Voronov (RUS) has competed internationally since 2004, is a seven-time Russian medalist and won the bronze medal at the 2015 European Championships. Like Voronov, Michal Brezina (CZE) has competed on the international circuit since 2004. He is two-time Olympian and has competed at five World Championships.

2-time Olympian and competed 5 World Championships?
I wish they could mention Brezina's European medal and 4th finishes (twice) at Worlds.

What on earth is going on? They announce the line-up and Voronov gets injured? It's all barking mad this season. What a shame. Poor Sergey :sad21:
But what really drives me nuts is the relentless mentions of S/K! I feel like I'm losing my mind. We won't know till the last minute whether they'll be at Worlds. And even if they are, after such a long time of injury, is it not a lot more important that Fedor's body mends properly and recovers in time for the next season? Well, unless he is really fixed up by doctors and wants it desperately... I love them, I want to see them, but health comes first. Please forgive me for ranting :curse:
