2016 Team Challenge Cup - Gen Info/Pre-chat

Actually I think "They" got it from the videos that USFSA appear to be producing but are at a minimum promoting. It is possible that it is more Team Challenge Cup that is to blame, but USFSA is still passing it on.

There was a similar video for team NA that had the same 3 continents language and image excluding Australia and South America.

Here is a screen shot of what I am talking about more specifically... in case it is easier for anyone

They did not have to use that language, or that image to promote the event, but they did.

Loooool. I love how the Russian part of Europe is included as part of the Asian continent and not Europe. Somebody failed geography in grade school.

Here's Europe: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Europe_orthographic_Caucasus_Urals_boundary_(with_borders).svg

Happy for Brezina getting to do a team event.

Not happy about this "3 continents" crap that they are doing to really try to make sure we know they are trying to exclude South America and Australia. I have no idea why they think it is a good thing, and no idea why they want to draw attention to it.

About the exclusion of SA and Aus... well, they don't have top skaters and those have no chance of making TCC. The event wants top skaters, top ratings, and good $$$.

Yes, Voronov is currently not training. He has an inflamation of the achilles tendon.

2-time Olympian and competed 5 World Championships?
I wish they could mention Brezina's European medal and 4th finishes (twice) at Worlds.

I wish they had mentioned Jason Brown's Challenger Series Gold rather than his Challenger Series Silver. I also think Gracie's GP medals merited a mention. I also think Nam's 5th place at worlds merited a mention over his 5th place at Skate Canada. The bios are a bit weird.

I did not even catch that... good find. Though the teams could be rather interesting if it was Europe vs Asia and Russia vs North America.

Part of good money is marketing. I really do think that cutting them is a missed opportunity on their part. While they may not win the fan vote, I think having them included would have meant more exposure and more good will. I also think that the Australian Pairs team would have received a very warm reception at the event... and again have been a selling point. The NK team might bring out some curiosity, but not really for the right reasons.

I actually saw that right before he was announced to the team... and was shocked to see him on the team. We will see where things go from here for him... i wish everyone would just get healthy.

With Javi out and our lovely Potato King in, it will be very interesting competition for team Europe  I like it that there will be some skaters, that won't have chance to skate at Worlds. Diversity! :yay: But I'm kind of sad that Javi won't participate in team event, it's not like he will participate in WTT next year :scowl:

EDIT: Now I'm really curious who will be the third skater in Men. I thought Michal might be fan vote before. Pretty sure in Ladies it will be one of the Russian ladies, though personally I'd give chance to Angelina Kuchvalska or Nicole Rajicova.

I'm going, and I'm super excited because it will be my first international competition! (I'm also quietly hoping that Chock/Bates decline so I can see the Shib's Fix You :scard8:)

For a second there I thought you meant you hoped Chock/Bates declined, as in got injured, and then I smacked myself upside the head and said no way did he mean that. Decline as in turn down! It's only Wednesday and work has already fried my brain.

I hope Chock & Bates decline also as I want to see the Shib sibs again too!

Hah no I do love Chock and Bates, and I know they'll be stunning. But the Shibs' Fix You is one of my favorite performances of all time and I would pay good money to see it live .

So, hypothetically, if an Israeli competitor/team was to participate, would they represent Team Europe or Team Asia?

Too bad Florent Amodio decided to retire right after European. If he choose to participate (in Worlds and TCC), I'm positive he would get the 3rd spots. Right now I think it's very likely to be Kovtun.

But what if they do qualify by rankings or (heaven forbid) by popularity, this year or in some later year? Why not give them a chance to try?

There are going to be 9 skaters in each singles discipline. If you want "top skaters", you'd just take the top 9 in the world, according to some criteria of "top". It isn't being done that way. Because of the uneven geographic distribution of skaters in various disciplines, and because of the rules about skaters from the same country, some skaters at the competition will be "top"er than others. Why encourage geographic diversity in one way (country), but completely rule it out in another way? It seems very mean-spirited.

Excuse me?!

Have you not been reading this thread? Have you not being paying attention? Paris and Matthew, on January 1 when the cutoff was, were ranked higher than the North Korean pair. IF Australia is properly included in this event, they have earned the right to go to this event! They have qualified on their own merits!

:angry1:

Brendan can land a quad. Kailani's 4CC score would have had her sixth at Europeans. Brooklee has been to three Grand Prix events. Andrew led the Challenger Series for a good part of it. Dani and Greg made the Olympics. Don't you dare tell me Australia doesn't have good skaters!

Maybe they'll re-format the event for 2018 (if they hold the event) to include SA and Australia, idk.

Oh yes I know there will be a chance for revenge from Liza.

And I really like Roberta's Pretty Woman SP!!!

I didn't see them at 4CC, do you know what happened?

Unfortunately they were a couple of points shy of the TES minimum, as was Jordan Dodds.

It matters not. They were ranked higher on January 1st because they got out and went to competitions and worked hard and put themselves out there. They might have been shy of it this year, but I am certain you'll see them at Four Continents next year. They have improved a lot. They do the hard slog to the other side of the world to get additional training, they do the hard slog for hours on planes just to get to internationals, they did three internationals in three weeks with all the stress of a lost bag in between because that was the most effective way to do it in terms of cost and jet lag, they keep working and training and fighting even though they come from a country where winter sport is drastically underfunded and the snowboarders get most of that, they're an unconventional pair in a minority sport and they deserve some respect!

oh no pls get well Sergei bb! I dont want to see him replaced by Kovtun:hopelessness:
