2016 Team Challenge Cup - Gen Info/Pre-chat

It was kind of lucky for the event that Gracie, having already been picked as the main spokesperson, won U.S. Nationals.

Hey thanks for writing that program for me that hacked into the judges computers and upped her scores! LOL.... well, anyone who saw her freeskate live wont soon forget it!

Didnt see a thing in the local paper or on the news this morning about the voting....also, it is kind of odd that the USFS director of gifting who runs our donation program didnt inform us Friends of Figure Skating yet about it. Still, it goes on till April so I am still banking on Spokane doing a big TV/Newspaper release. (My wife and I share the same router in our house but different computers....and we both got to vote once....wonder if we can vote on my 4 cell phones and two lap tops ? :scratch2:

Just clicked through to the "see breakdown" page.

Why are they putting me down as being in "Newry and Mourne District" when I am in "Cookstown District"?!

Must be because I'm using Firefox in private mode. :rolleye:

Anyway, there are only 3 other people from Norn Iron voting, and only 2 did all categories (the other only did the Europeans).

Here are their choices:-

American Ladies: Ashley (Belfast; Ards)
American Men: Adam (Belfast; Ards)
Asian Ladies: So Youn (Belfast); Rika (Ards)
Asian Men: Misha (Belfast; Ards)
European Ladies: Zhenya (Omagh); Elena (Belfast; Ards)
European Men: Maxim (Omagh); Alexei (Belfast); Mikhail (Ards)

Mind you, I don't know why I bothered putting their districts into the list, because if they got mine wrong, then they probably got their's wrong too!

I voted twice on my phone and once on my laptop, and am debating whether to vote on my iPad. #TrueFansStopAtNothing :p

Omg , who are these people voting for Kushvalska? :eeking:

Me.

While I like Radio and Evgenia, I feel bored with them (my fav Russian girls are Pogo and Lip) and at Euros Angelina was say more enjoyable for me to watch than the other two. Not that she stands a chance against Radio's popularity, heh.

why are jason brown and nam nguyen the men for team north america? they're not even going to worlds. i thought the requirement to be at TCC was that they had to have been worlds 2016 participants??

i really wanted patrick on our team, and he isn't even in the voting.. :(

and neither is yuzuru hanyu or mao asada.

Why wouldn't they be? Patrick, Yuzuru and Mao have all declined the invitation.

Jason is possibly the most popular male skater in US so it makes sense to invite him. Nam us the next most popular male skater in Canada after Patrick. And despite their lackluster track this season (or no track in Jason's case) they're the top (second tp in Nam's case) talents in their respective countries.

5 out of 6 of my picks are still in last place. I should've gone for Kolyada and made it a clean sweep at the bottom. :sad21:

The rules require that the highest ranking (ISU in ISU world ranking points) as on January 1 must be invited. These were Jason and Nam.

The thing about being worlds 2016 participants applies only to the extra skaters involved in the fan vote.

If this event works out (that is, if it makes money), it might alternate every other year with the WTT.

Agree that WTT is expected to continue in odd-numbered years.

But I'm guessing that 2018 will not have TCC, b/c of the Olympic team event??

So even if deemed successful, perhaps the next TCC would not take place until 2020??

It's hard to say. The TCC would come after 2018 worlds and quite a bit after the Olympics. Back in the day, the post-Olympic skating tours hit the road with vigor -- SOI and COI had dozens of stops, taking advantage of the Olympic publicity. Someone might decide that 2018 is the best time of all to cash in on a popular skating dhow, if so it proves to be.

Bychenko is now in the lead for Europe, thanks to the 74% of Koreans with massive grudges voting for him.

64% of South Koreans voted for Kushvalska :laugh2: And due to the fact that they are the second most active group in Team Europe voting (11438 votes so far) it gives Kushvalska around 7320 votes just from Koreans alone. I never knew she was that popular in Korea! :eeking:

Elena Radionova is ahead only thanks to big Japanese support (more than 11 000 votes) but we all know she's really popular in Japan.

Don't get me wrong - I have nothing against Kushvalska and I am one of those who's ecstatic when skaters from smaller feds make it to the podium, but something tells me that's not the point in this case.

Actually Kuchvalska does stand a chance! If any of you are wondering why she's doing so well in the poll, it's the same reason that Bychenko is--the South Koreans are overwhelmingly voting for her.

57% of the votes for her came from South Korea, while 49% of the votes for Bychenko came from there.

I would like to think that a) the South Koreans genuinely like these skaters better than the others, or that b) they're trying to pick the "weaker" skaters in order to make Team Asia win, but I agree with Tolstoj, it's probably the Yuna ubers who are vehemently anti-Russia. :rolleye:

If they can mobilize the same voters who put So-youn Park ahead (~80,000!) they can easily put Kuchvalska on the team...

My choices:

American Ladies: Ashley Wagner
American Men: Max Aaron

Asian Ladies: Rika Hongo
Asian Men: Han Yan

European Ladies: Angelina Kuchwalska
European Men: Mikhail Kolyada

Didn't realise the voting was open. But, I guess that explains why there has been so much activity in this thread the past few days. (I stopped reading this thread a while ago because it has got too big to trawl through).

Really don't agree with this method, as I don't feel that it is right that a popularity contest decides who competes at a Major Championship. It should be on merit, not populatiry.

Didn't stop me voting, though! ;)

Here are the results at the time I voted (about 30 mintues ago - it took longer to type out than I expected). My choices are in bold.

American Ladies

Polina Edmunds: 17% - 6,470 votes (Come on, I had to vote for the Russian!)
Ashley Wagner: 54% - 20,181 votes
Alaine Chartrand: 29% - 10,806 votes

American Men

Adam Rippon: 50% - 15,571 votes
Max Aaron: 30% - 9,497 votes (Like his programmes)
Liam Firus: 20% - 6.289 votes

Asian Ladies

Li Zijun: 4% - 5.964 votes
Rika Hongo: 45% - 73,765 votes (Come on, she's using Irish music in her FS! Plus I like her)
Park So Youn: 52% - 85,762 votes

Asian Men

Misha Ge: 32% - 17,051 votes
Yan Han: 24% - 12,494 votes
Jin Boyang: 44% - 23,391 votes (How was he not an automatic choice?!)

European Ladies

Elena Radionova: 43% - 18,419 votes
Angelina Kuchvalska: 28% - 11,854 votes
Evgenia Medvedeva: 29% - 12,132 votes (How was she not an automatic choice?!)

European Men

Maxim Kovtun: 37% - 13,045 votes
Mikhail Kolyada: 23% - 8,192 votes (Hadn't a clue who to go for! So, I went for the young Russian)
Alexei Bychenko: 40% - 13,893 votes

I have to be honest, for a lot of the categories, I didn't know who to pick. Like, a lot of them I was thinking "Why are you here? You should have been one of the automatic picks!", while others I was just thinking "Why are you here? There are a lot of skaters that I would have thought would have been higher in the list of candidates!"

Ach, I'll never understand or like the way this competition is being handled!

CaroLiza_fan

Oh no! I have to get all my phones and laptops and vote for Rika! Need to see riverdance again.....

I voted for Angelina Kuchvalska for two reasons: mostly because I genuinely prefer her style to the other two, and partly because I thought she wouldn't get near as many votes as the other two and I kinda felt for her - I thought it would be nice for her to get some votes!
