Maybe they are thinking that if they start making announcements &c now, that that by the time Worlds' rolls round it will have become a bit "old hat", and they want to tie it into the Worlds' excitement?

That is my Opinion, and that is why I didnt see or have yet to see any big push in the Spokane media yet. Sure, there are ads featuring Gracie's pic to sell tickets, but they are only 20 percent of a page or so....In the world of marketing, one needs to generate "hype" and the way to do that is to take advantage of the worlds broadcasts in Spokane and around the country and then advertise heavily locally and nationally and get people to vote. The voting is a marketing tool into and of itself. Wasnt there voting in the series, "Dancing with the Stars?" . Anyway, we shall see if I am right. Perhaps when the GS battalion hits the concourse at Worlds, we shall see voting booths, per se at the TCC table. I still think SA, Nats, and Worlds has sucked away much of the attendee's money so what we shall see at TCC is locals, Japanese fans, and my wife....oh, and PaulE and I will be there.....

LOL! NO! I DID enjoy watching every time they had skaters on, but I had to record the whole night's show and Fast Forward through the things I didnt care about or I would be even nuttier than I am....but I didnt cast one vote...maybe the poles were closed by the time I watched the show! (The dance you linked is amazing to watch...how do you make human body parts move so fast?)

I don't think so. If the organizers did not want us to do it, they wouldn't let us. (As it is, they are practically forcing us to vote over and over for Max and for Zijun Li. )

The only restriction I see on the TCC page is:

The poll administrator reserves the right to remove votes if it is determined that an automated voting response has been used.​

So as far as I can see, nothing immoral about multiple votes submitted individually by a human being. Not the same thing as automated voting.

I feel better now! Thanks everyone. Maybe its like my long dead grandmother who comes back to vote every four years at election time in Chicago? I need to expand my ancestor's reach by voting for them.

This reasoning defies the logic of democracy: 1 person - 1 vote. Imagine the U.S. president could be elected based on who truly likes the candidate and can vote 100 times for him/her. As for results, I think it is up to the organizers to decide if they want to make this new competition a success. The logic of sport is to let the best win. We have not had the worlds yet - ankle problems and something like that may happen. But at this particular moment based on the GPF, europeans, B competitions, and point scores achieved I believe that Russian women are the strongest in the world. And they are lead this season by Evgenija and Elena with Anna's scoring once 214. Russia represents Europe. Having European ladies team consisting of non-performing Liza, Rodegheiro, and Kuchvalska who just got only the 7th place in the junior worlds (would barely get into top 10 if 2 leaders did not WD) is a joke. And I will have little interest to watch it as it will not be sport - just some show. I am sure this individual threat is laughable to the organizers. But I am sure as well that if they want to have it in place for the years to come they should apply some common sense to how the teams will look like...the reason for my post is that Kuchvalska has almost surpassed Radionova now.

Frankly, I don't think "sport" is the organizers' concern. Hanyu's not coming, Fernandez's not coming, Patrick's not coming: there are going to be lots of top skaters not coming. On the Asian front So Youn Park is hardly the best Asia has to offer and so is Alaine Chartrand in America.

I, for one, will be much more interested to watch how the team competition will turn out with Kuchvalska and Rodhrigero representing Europe, instead of having a foregone conclusion of 3 Russian girls. Not to mention that I'd rather actually watch Team Europe than Team Russia. Sorry, not sorry. All that butthurt is tiring to read.

To tell the truth I am not all that serious about this event. It comes right after the World Championships. That's where the best skaters in the world get to prove that they are the best.

Do I really care whether one continent has better skaters than another? Frankly I would be just as happy if they got a bunch of skaters together and drew up sides for the "shirts" and the "skins." (This could be decided according as to which skaters had the most illusion fabric on their costumes. )

I don't care much for the fan voting at all. The reason being that some sensitive young skater might get his feelings hurt if no one votes for him. I am frantically voting for all the underdogs.

Regarding the ongoing discussion of multiple votes:

Until today, I had not noticed :hopelessness: the following sentence on the TCC voting page (emphasis added).

Vote early, vote often and share this unique opportunity with your friends.​

So indeed, the TCC page actively is encouraging multiple votes (votes understood to be from human beings who are submitting individual votes one by one).
Not merely permitting such votes, but actively encouraging them.

(Meanwhile, as we all know: automated voting, which is something different, is not OK.)

I think that a vote, deciding about how "good" or "worthy" someone is, is wrong. Therefore I am happy that these votes do not exist at GS. Our society has the habit to vote and classify people into numbers, rather than their personality. Facebook is full of that, with the up votes or youtube - it´s like we need to rate everything these days.


The question is, do the organizers want to rate? I believe that fans might think like that, that skaters might think like that too and keep in mind, how vulnerable especially girls can be at that age, but for the OC it´s just marketing I think, they want to promote their event and we all know how skating works in the US, 2000 people watch the GP, so they are probably trying everything to get more people. That being said, I doubt that people from Latvia, Russia or Italy would go to the States, so that it might be best to fill the line up with regional skaters located in NA, split them into groups and leave Asians, Europeans out of that.

I am pretty sure that family and friends would attend the event then.

Personally, I hope that the skaters have a thick enough skin, to just ignore the haters or votes about their "worth".

The voting with multiple accounts has become a common thing sadly, I doubt that even one competition that I joined as a DJ was voted fairly on and if you check DJmag & Co. then it´s all about who can motivate people best. I find that all so unnecessary, but it is what our world has come to I guess. I believe the perception is different for Americans, as you guys have that whole "freedom of speech" thing going. You will just outright tell someone if you think he is crap, we in Europe seldom do that, we try to be very polite (not saying Americans are not polite). The vote you guys discuss here, is therefore so typical for your country (please don´t get offended now) popularity contests were created in the US I think

Seriously, though, I think you are right about America's love of popularity for its own sake. Whoever is the most poplular is the MOST POPULAR!

And I have a confession to make. I am not really voting multiple times for this show. I tried to vote once, but after I clicked on Medvedeva I got a message saying, "Your browser in too old -- to continue, click here to up-date to a new version." I was afraid to download who-knows-what from who-knows-where, so I have not been able to vote any more or to read all the statistics about those evil blocs that are seeking world domination, beginning with figure skating.
