2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Yelim Kim? IIRC her the best placement in JGP was 4th place in Belarus which had the weakest ladies field out of all JGPs and she didn't even manage to beat Konstantinova :sarcasm: You Young after all that hype didn't do any better.

If the RusFed isn't stupid and actually gives 6 (or 7...) girls 2 spots each and starts realizing that a silver doesn't mean no final chances, then yes, we'll have an all-Russian final. I just don't think anyone else can contend with them. Kihira really was the only one that could and she's moved up. Out of the final last year, 5 were Russian and one was Kihira, who's moving up. Then the alternates were Yamashita (moving up), Araki (old enough to move up but probably won't due to lack of GP spots), and Lim (moving up). Araki was the second alternate with 2nd and 4th last year, and her silver medal came at Belarus, by far the easiest JGP field with Trusova the only real contender (sorry tars, but Konstantinova was never going to perform well enough to bump Trusova there and we all knew it). It isn't to dismiss Araki because she's talented for sure, but I don't think she has what it takes to compete against this year's group of Russian juniors, who somehow manage to be even stronger with the addition of Shcherbakova (probable spots), Tarusina (probable spots), and Kanysheva/Sinitsyna/both. It takes ultra-c elements to really compete with the top Russian juniors, and Araki doesn't currently have them. Yelim Kim didn't even medal at either of her JGPs last year, so I doubt she'll suddenly be a JGPF contender, especially with her lack of consistency and ultra-c elements. However, all of this is moot if the RusFed refuses to learn from its mistakes and keeps on giving less than 6 girls 2 spots each.

Yelim is very talented, with great body, softness and elegance in movement. If healthy and mentally strong(cmon girl!), she'll have better season than Tarakanova for sure. If she's consistent and judges use their new scale properly, she'll be better than Kanysheva and Sinitsyna as well. Young with 3A and top technical fireworks, not as elegant and talented performer, but should be beating them as well.
Trusova's record will stay for many years and she'll be strong for sure, Kostornaia will slay for now and so will Shcherbakova if healthy. I don't quite believe in Tarakanova and Gubanova having strong seasons, plus we don't even know what their health/level state is going to be.

I like Tarusina very much, she was so unlucky with the accident 2y ago, if they let her compete in seniors, she would probably skate better than anybody but Alina, Med, Sots and Tuk with 3A. Anna is girl on fire, I applaud her will and success in coming back.

I just... I don't know what to say if someone thinks that a skater who didn't even make JWC for Korea will be better than Tarakanova or Gubanova or Kanysheva or Sinitsyna

She's really talented, but not quite there mentally. I hope she'll get her act together.
How can you count so hard on Tarakanova or Gubanova in this very moment? Haven't you seen the gossips on the first one and last shows of the latter? Many questions and doubts regarding these two.

For JGP assignments I think people are forgetting about Vasilieva. She beat Tarakanova, Kanysheva, Sisnitsyna, Shcherbakova, Kostyuk etc at Junior Nationals.

So for me it would indicate that ranking of the juniors prior to test skates will be.
1. Trusova
2. Kostornaya
3. Gubanova (but she is 50:50 going senior)
4. Vasilieva
5. Tarakanova (probably ahead of Gubanova/Vasilieva if healthy given success on the international circuit....she's the only skater I can think of who was scored more harshly at nationals than at a major international comp)
6. Tarusina
7. Kanysheva (I've put her behind Tarusina because she's only a first year junior)
8. Shcherbakova (Again she is ahead of Sinitsyna because Sinitsyna is only a first year junior)
9. Sinitsyna
10. Chistyakova (is apparently not very special/doesn't have amazing results but she is on the same funding level as Sinitsyna and Shcherbakova)
11. Kostyuk (might get bumped up above Sinitsyna/Chistyakova as this is technically her second junior year and she did beat Shecherbakova at Junior Nats)
12. Gulyakova (will most likely skate senior but technically could appear)

Of course once test skates happen these rankings will probably change a lot. For example Vasilieva last year was on the initial JGP team however they bumped her for Kostornaya after Kostornaya did very, very well at test skates.

Shcherbakova should be higher right? She beat Trusova at Cup Final.

Trusova's record? I doubt that it's going to stay for many years. Heck, it'll probably be beaten this season by herself or one of her rinkmates.

Please can you not overlook Tarakanova. Yes she has been ill but she did beat Trusova last year in one of the qualifiers but then was forced to drop out of the cup of Russia final because of her illness. This girl out of all of Eteri’s is far more deserving then both Sherbakova and Kostornaia of the high GOEs as most of her jumps should reach 4/5. Yes she can be slightly inconsistent but her only bad cimpetition this season was in Zagreb I think where she slipped on her first jump and hit her head and was forced to skate the rest of her skate at least shocked if not with slight concussion which excuses her falls imo and Gubanova was clean at least mostly at her events other than her one international assignment.

Her main problem is the fact that at Russian nationals she got massively underscored. Kostornaia’s score went up by seven points from junior Grand Prix final to Russian junior nats for a clean performance at both. Tarakanova was scored 1.3 points lower than her junior grand prix final performance at Russian junior nats where she was clean at both. If her score had gone up by just over seven points like Kostornaia’s she would have come third at Russian Junior nats.

Yes she is ill and possibly injured but even with a nightmare performance with concussion after literally hitting her head
she beat Young You. Furthermore she was competing the same content as when she had been 12-13 and she without the excessive backloading has the fifth highest junior score ever. If she can just maintain her content Tarakanova will easily able to beat most competitors except from Kostornaia, Trusova and possibly Sherbakova (if she has quads otherwise Tarakanova should easily beat her as she has better skating skill, more powerful spins and higher jumps)

Good lack to everyone to score 93 in TES

It will be difficult. New rules, reduced values in jumps, reduced back loading bonus. You either need a senior level PCS (which I don't think anyone will give it in juniors) or to bring another quad to the game. Trusova may have the ability, but still needs to be clean etc. So, a lot of factors to line up...

What do you mean by forced?

Not forced but if she wanted to qualify for the junior Grand Prix final she had to skate through it. Nastia had to keep to finish her free skate and if you watch her she can’t land any of her jumps but she still gets as much of her speed as she can. No one held s gun to her head obviously but Nastia couldn’t stop her routine and say I’ve got a concussion or I’m in shock I can’t skate safely anymore so if she had no other choice but to skate and hope that she could at least get bronze .

https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/showthread.php?73649-Rescoring-past-competitions-w-new-SOV-rules

"TES drops significantly in the men’s and increases slightly in ladies’, at least for the highest levels of competition."

I think the score increase with the higher GOE outweighs the reduced SOV/Backloading. The men's TES decreased only because of the loss of a jumping pass.

Trusova's practicing 4Lz. I think I read somewhere that she can skate clean during run-throughs (with quads) 60% of the time or so? I'm not sure though, my memory's pretty bad.

Is he part of "Sambo-70" coaching staff?

She represents Sambo 70 still and he is her coach. He's always changing his coats at competitions because his skaters are from all over the world. Are coaches required at test skates to identify which club they represent? I’d seen it speculated that he needs it for that.

I assume because Zhenya still represents Sambo and he is coaching her he is in some way, although I'm not sure about the technicalities.

Still, it's nice to see him with the jacket since he has one for each of his athletes.

Or for other domestic events? When Zhenya is competing within the federation, she will be representing her club...and her coach will need the jacket for that.

In any event, official club jackets aren't something one can order unless one has a legitimate role.

And that jacket looks like it was ordered for Brian Orser's size.

As I think about it, I can see that the Russian skating federation will expect Brian to be with Zhenya for domestic events, especially the first season so that he can hear any feedback or priorities directly.

They've done something exceptional in authorizing Zhenya to train in Canada. They will wish to ensure that they have good communication.

See the posts above. Shall we wait for LilBet and Eteri photo? )

P.S. Imagine BOrser in "Sambo-70" jacket and Eteri in "TCC" jacket standing together near the rink

As well considering that Dasha just posted a picture of herself wearing one I feel like it the revamped jacket for this season. As a result I wouldn’t be surprised if Sambo 70 sent it to Orser considering that they know he wears the skaters jackets and it is good publicity and Zhenya and Orser probably just thought it was funny. Zhenya is a Sambo 70 skater so Prser even if he isn’t an official Sambo 70 coach is definitely affiliated with the club now.
