2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Btw, canadians will have an unique opportunity to watch mini russian junior nationals in their country live

P.S. we need some video about upcoming JGP with the music like "there will be blood"

It'll be a branch of the Russian jr. nationals. Perhaps even a Sambo-70 local.

Only if You Young has a consistent 3A can she compete but I just don't see it.

Young You's 3A looks quite effortless to me. However, since she's never consistent anyway, I doubt her 3A would be consistent.

Gubanova should definitely go senior. Even if she doesn't get the host spot I hope she would be able to do some CS to boost up her international score. As for 6th and 4th in Nationals and Jr Nationals, let's not forget how she was robbed by certain skaters' uncalled UR and crazy PCS.

Actually it will only be more competitive in terms of the Russian girls. The rest of the field may even be less competitive, and there are only 2 spots for Russia per event.

I haven't see Gubanova since junior nationals so I cannot predict based on how she may or may not be progressing. What I do know is she finished 4th at junior nationals and 6th at seniors. She has consistently beaten Trusina, Sinitsyna, Kanysheva, and beat Shcherbakova by more than a few places at nationals. You can note my full predictions on page 256 of this thread. I believe she will get one spot if she wants it(and a chance at a second) as long as she doesn't bomb test skates. IF she skates well she has a great chance to go 1-2 with the other Russian girl, may even win against Trusina, Sinitsyna, Kanysheva or a flawed Tarakanova and Shcherbakova. This is this basis for my prediction.

There is this thing, rusfed has tons of juniors. Way more juniors than JGP spots. So what they did last year, and will likely do this year is to give each junior a spot, and only give second spot to those who have decent JGPF chances. Which means that, unless you are Trusova or Kostornaia, you must win your 1st event. Gulyakova didn't get her second JGP with a silver, for example.
Basically, she has no chance for a second JGP, because it is unlikely that she will win gold at her first, since there are many strong juniors and she is not a consistency benchmark.

If anything, you can base your prediction on Buianova's politiking instead, this is something that could get her 2 JGPs, because without that, it is just way too grim in juniors for Gubanova. I actually see her staying in juniors if Buianova gets her 2 JGPs, and then she can also do CS events and so on, and then make the JW team because Konstantinova turned senior, and rusfed will not send 3 eteri girls.

Would she still continue to do so after worlds? Sotskova was a total train wreck and had significant UR issues last season. My read was that one of the reasons she brought so many new skaters in is because she was losing faith in Sotskova. And really, if she continues URing half her jumps, the amount she's pushed doesn't really matter all that much.

The reason some of us think Gubanova should be in seniors is because Russia's #3 spot is wide open right now and there are serious worlds participation possibilities. On the other hand, the road at juniors is almost certainly blocked.

The main issue about this #3 spot is that this likely goes to team Buianova (Eteri won't get 3, also 1 for Orser and 2 for Eteri is very unlikely, since other russian coaches need support too, and then its Tuktik vs 3 or 4 Buianova skaters, which means Buianova will likely get it).
Which means it will be decided offrink, based on Buianova's preferences. Its not like Gubanova is a consistency benchmark either.

Maybe not but she sure has shown up to Nationals pretty well. Honestly other than her first JGP did she even miss a step. I’d say she’s more consistent than Masha and even Polina. I’m not saying she should be goven anything but overall she’s been pretty good. Her first JGP season she got rewarded well and messed up the SP like every time. Such a beautiful Swan too...what a shame. I just think she gets dumped on a lot.

It’s all speculation. I just hope it’s decided on the ice ;)

Speaking of IdF, this 3S is an uncalled UR https://youtu.be/057Il6E5twM?t=6m35s
Many of her jumps rotations are already iffy in IdF, and it just got worse in the later part of the season. By saying that I mean her toe pick touches the ice before hitting the 90 degrees mark, and the full blade is already on ice at 90 degrees short of rotation. This is a very dangerous habit of hers.

And the 3Lz right after in the replay.

A pessimist (or I suppose an opportunist, depending on perspective) might say it doesn’t matter if she doesn’t get called. (Although of course the problem is she does get called sometimes and will probably continue to be by harsh panels.)

In Lady's FS discussion 3Lz/3Lz+3Lo are pointless. At OG 2018 Zagitova just overcame the bar set by Irina Slutskaya at EC 1996/GPF 2000. Today there are cards of different suit and dignity laid on the table - Quads/3A solo/combo. Take NA Lady's FS in its extreme points - Osmond(23)-Alysa Liu(13). There is nobody between them. 3F+3T is outdated. Between Zagitova and Trusova there are planty, everyone can claim the highest places in J/S Championships.
