2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

So 6 girls have been given a JGP. Shcherbakova, Tarusina, Kostornaia, Gubanova, Trusova, and Kanysheva. Assuming the goal will be to give 7 girls 2 spots, this leaves only one spot left for someone to have a chance to make the final. Tarakanova and Sinitsyna are both deserving, I hate that one of them could be left off. It seems they chose Kanysheva over Sinitsyna. And what will happen with Gubanova? She wasn't at test skates, will it impact her spot? The JGP can't come soon enough for me!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Anna‘s new SP! It‘s so much better than last year‘s which I personally found a bit dull even though it certainly was elegant. Shame about the mistake in the step sequence but she recovered well as if nothing had happened and her jumps (+rippons!!) were gorgeous. Even though the FP was kind of hard mistake wise and the fall on the 4Lz looked really scary, she still has the best programs this season out of the 3 top Eteri junior girls.

Alena‘s program is a big step down from last years. The voice overs... are tacky, that‘s all I‘m going to say. But it‘s not as bad as I imagined it would be. The music cuts are kinda sloppy and just with Alina‘s SP I asked myself what the hell Daniil was smoking because you can see he clearly hasn‘t lost the ability to make good programs (Anna, anyone?) but ultimately, I feel like the program suits her despite some obvious flaws just like with Alina‘s POTO. It‘s just the first outing of both programs and they‘ll likely develop big deal over the season. I usually would probably even like the program, it’s just that I always compare it to Stella’s Theme which was my favourite junior program last season and yeah... it doesn’t do too well in comparison. But it’s not that bad off a program in itself, just the music... could have been better arranged to put it like this. I love her jumps with the rippon and I love how clean and easy she makes them look. Also the height! :luv17: I do hope she‘s going to add the 3A during the season because it will make her at least somewhat competitive with Anna and Sasha. Okay, maybe not with Sasha (who ever is? ) but with Anna who has consistency issues. This will be a fierce battle this season and I‘m already so excited. :cheer:

Sorry if it sounds mean, but I think Gubanova should be left off. She's not really a junior skater and didn't come to test skates. If she's injured, the JGP season is in just a few weeks, and I doubt that'd be enough to become 100%. And both Tarakanova and Sinitsyna are so deserving. They have no other option. Gubanova has no guarantees of getting the Rostelecom spot if she doesn't do the JGP, but she has a good chance. Tarakanova and Sinitsyna have no chance for that. The JGP is their only route.

Anna's SP is the best program done by Danii so far this season imho. Very classical and it suits her elegant skating. That moment where she threw up ice is lovely.

I'm inclined to agree. It's not a great comparison, but it kind of feels like Gubanova is this year's Konstantinova. She just doesn't really fit in on the junior or the senior circuit at the moment. I still think she'd be better off doing Challengers and trying to get the Rostelecom spot rather than competing with girls whose only option is to be in juniors.

considering i'm trash for Alena, if i were being biased i'd say https://media.giphy.com/media/l0HUguHIEhuEo37ag/giphy.gif 10seconds into watching her program  she's my favorite junior (with gubanova) and i really do not like the music cuts and the voiceovers.

The voiceovers remind me of Elena‘s ”Jaaack!“ (although not that bad  ) so that‘s why I‘m not too happy with them. I usually don‘t like voice overs in programs. They kind of seem exaggerated to me like in Zhenya’s FP which I loved until the voice over started and it totally ruined the mood for me. The music and her movements were expressive enough, there is no need for voice overs telling us exactly what is happening or trying to evoke emotions. But they weren’t too bad in Alena‘s program because they were fortunately rather short.

yeah as much i love her i'd have to agree.
too much suffering is involved with being emotionally attached to skaters in the bloodbath the russian ladies field is :sad21:
why would the rusfed even want to keep her in junior? let her go senior. I wonder why she was absent at the test skates, hope she isn't injured. I was just getting excited about her music choices yesterday :drama:

I agree! I loved that moment. I‘m already in love with the whole program. It‘s kind of like with Alena‘s Stella‘s Theme and Anna‘s Dreamcatcher or Zhenya‘s River Flows in You. The kind of program I only needed to watch once to fall in love with. :luv17: Her FS is good, too, but it‘ll take me some time to be completely sold on it, unlike the SP.

Hm, I like Gubanova and I would love to see her in Linz but if she - for whatever reasons there might have been - wasn‘t ready for test skates she probably won‘t be ready for JGP as well. Test skates are a pretty big thing for juniors and especially for those who weren‘t doing so well last season, so I don‘t think she‘d miss them if there weren‘t some serious issues. I hope she‘s fine but it‘d probably really be better if she does some challenger events (and or Rostelecom host spot) and try to do very well there to get some reputation for next season.

It's just weird. She's definitely not going to fit in with the junior team, but she did so well at nationals that she should be there -- she just didn't earn any GP spots. I don't see the point in sending her to a JGP if she wasn't at test skates. The Rostelecom spot should be marked all over with her name on it, given her high domestic score and high placement at nationals. *shrug*

Wow. The music is giving me so many Yulia vibes. :(

But I gotta say that I LOVE this program. It‘s so much better than Big Spender in my opinion and I also like it quite more than her FS. The problem with that many quads is obvious... the set up for a quad naturally takes longer and that‘s why her FS just looks like skating between quads at the beginning. But in her SP she doesn‘t do a quad and the difference is evident. Her jumps are still WOW but now she has time to focus on different things as well. Her spins are ok, nothing all too special but I love the choreography. Especially that one moment when the music starts to become louder and more intense and she nails that 3Lz-3Lo combo right to the beat. So.cool! Thank you, Daniil, thank you Sasha.

i don't know if the tango programs fits Nastya
I could barely see Sasha's program, i only saw a bit of her jumping so i have no opinion  i love the music tho! already loved when eteri used those music cuts for yulia's ex years ago https://youtu.be/2Sp0fXfaezE i was hoping they'd use the bang bang so my wish was granted :agree:

Reminds me of this, particularly in the second half.

Wow, I didn‘t know Tarakanova also had a program to Kill Bill! But it‘s so her, I feel like it would be a waste if she never did one. Her and Sasha are both powerful skaters, full of passion and fire and energy so I‘d say it matches both of them very well. And I totally forgot to comment on her SP which I‘m a bit ashamed now because she‘s one of my favourite junior skaters. I don‘t like tango, I can‘t help it but it feels like the program has potential and her 3Lz-3T combo was simply gorgeous. I hope for an even better and powerful as usual FP to Believer!
