Yes I noticed this to! It is such a strange mistake to make, like dont the coaches know the rules?? All of her jumps where fantastic but she must have missed out on about 5pts from that mistake which realy was the coaches fault...
I guess that is what happened. I thought her skating was wonderful, and was surprised by how low the score was.
Actually, both Maria and Irina won medals at worlds 1998: Irina, silver; Maria, bronze. So they share the title as first. Then Maria won Worlds the next year, 1999
Masha:
Is it Buyanova or is it university?
If it is Buyanova, then I really hope that this isn’t the path that Nastya and Polina will have to go down as well... (actually Polina’s already on the path)![]()
Didn't Irina win the Bronze in 1996?
Kira Ivanova attended three Olympics. Tragic life, dealt with alcoholism and was violently murdered at the age of 38.

it looks like Buyanova. Masha (no improvement over last years) and Polina and Elena struggling. Nastya not there yet, but her programs and packaging this season are just nope
Actually I believe it was Elena Vorodorzeyva (known by her married name I think now Buy(something) won the first medal as a teenager? Followed by Kira Ivanova, Anna Kondrosheva then
Slutskaya, Butyrskaya, Soldatova, Sokolova, and the rest from Leonova, Lipniskaya, Radinova and Evgenia, Pogoloraya. something like that. I don't think Alina Zag or Sotnikova ever won at l east yet a world medal but I could be wrong. Poor Ivanova tragic life and she use to crumble and the sight of her rival Katarina Witt. Witt was pretty, vivacious, competitive and a true diva on and off ice. Kira could not handle the pressure and though she held promise as a free skater never fully got it together and became more a school figure specialist.
I think three Russian leaders in women's skating are Zagitova, Evgenia and Liza though Evgenia needs to show she can make the GPF first. She is struggling and her pcs have fallen like her skating.
If something crazy doesn’t happen at Cup of Russia, the podium should be:
At IDF, the podium will likely be
1. Rika
2. Evgenia
3. ?
I think Liza entering the GPF after years of struggling and even Alena Leonova doing so well at her GP should send a very important message to the Russian senior ladies who are out there. I know that with the upcoming quad girls (above is insane btw. The height is just... wow) it might seem like they “won‘t stand a chance“ and for a few seasons this might be the case. But Liza just showed that if you truly want something, you can work towards it. So I‘m really thankful for her that she‘s sending this kind of message to the likes of Zhenya, Dasha, Polina, Masha and even Alina that not all will be lost even if next season the young ones will prevail. You can make a comeback and stay relevant, get medals on the GP circuit and actually make it to Worlds teams if you fight. Congrats to Liza for managing to get a GPF ticket again after some time and her bronze at NHK. May many of the Russians follow. Zhenya, Alina, davai!
We literally had a thread like this two days ago where Alena had bigger Salchows, Loops, Flips, and Toeloops, and iveralll, and then essentially has equal height in Lutzes and Axels.
I generally agree with you on the rest. I feel like Alena’s IN has dropped a level since last season, where she did a better job IMO. Anna has by far the best IN skills of the current junior crop... maybe other than Kanysheva, who this season is one of those few skaters who is able to express their program’s concept on the ice *without* a blindingly pretentious interview spelling it out off of the ice.

I think Liza's return to a contender for the worlds team is only possible because she recovered something that no other russian lady has: her 3A.
