2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Liza wins the night for me! I was so ecstatic watching her. It was such a pleasure. She was definitely robbed in PCS it's so unfair. Much much love to her!

It was a bit low, at least on the performance aspects. Alina's (6 point superior) program really has no cohesion to me and isn't especially well performed. However, the placements are probably right based on the short program lead. Alina's jumps also look like they're going to need a lot of reworking soon, so I'm not sure how the future looks for her.

I also enjoyed Liza’s free skate. She was having so much fun and the audience was loving it. I’m so proud of her!

I'd say the senior ladies delivered, now off to the juniors!!

2,3 and 5!

Alina looked nervous and popped her - 3t, but got it done! I was really scared after that 1T (on a sidenote, keep away from media... she is done!) 3 gold 1 silver so far in the post Olympic season with 220+ pts starts is great

Liza with a slight mistake on the axel but otherwise top. 3F looks good, maybe put it in the SP? ;)

And Sofia with a new SB to secure those GP spots!!!

Liza and Sofia really came through, great performances, I'm very happy for them ☺️ (not about their PCS though).

Alina wasn't perfect but she shouldn't be too hard on herself as lost to a worthy rival.

I think Liza needs a 3F or 3Lo in the SP so she can do that beautiful lutz combo. She needs that extra BV from the jumps because she gives away points on spin GOE.

Liza was so underscored compared to Alina. Her jumps were whistle clean outside of the 3A and she sold the hell out of that FS and improved her flow. Should have been 2nd in the free.

"Ted Barton just said on the #JGPF2018 stream that Zagitova tripped over a TV cable before the senior free skate, hurt her foot and almost withdrew."

ouch. We hope she is ok. RICE RICE RICE!

I'm glad that she didn't. That would have been bad optics after coming in second in the short program. There would be even more talk.

The GPF outcome really isn't that big a deal but I fear this may shake her confidence for future skates. Especially given all the animosity post olympics and that this season was supposed to be about "proving" herself as the champion.

I agree with all of this, and hope she has lots of good people around her who know how to talk to her, support her, and get her through this. I am also hoping that with Rika winning the GPF and becoming favorite for Worlds, Alina has less pressure. I feel like the amount of pressure she has put on herself, and the media has put on her is just outrageous. This is _exactly_ why Olympic Champions typically retire after winning. I hope the pressure has not taken her joy of skating away. She appeared much happier at the beginning of the season, and therefore seemed to be skating better as well.

That explains she looked off even before she started. Hope her injury won't get worse, but don't injuries typically get worse on the second day?

So Alena KOSTORNAIA just won JPGF with clean skate over Trusova. I am happy about that. As much as i was excited about QUADZZZZZ, when the multiple quads program comes with falls and messy landings.... clean, full package program should win. (also, another horrible fall from Trusova. I am starting to get worried here, not just for her skating future, but for her walking without pain future).

Alena was stunning today and I hope this boosts her confidence.

Seeing the Anna SHCHERBAKOVA placement... i am thinking thar it might not be the "3A" pushing out everybody next year.

Also this seasons should have been the time for Alina to start training the harder jumps her teammates are landing.

She is OGM and wants to stay until 2022. So resting on her laurels with the young girls at here heels won’t get her there.

She shouldn’t be focused on sticking to the status quo but upping her tech for the future. After all she was the young tech strong ingenue who dethrones the reigning queen.

Agreed Ziotic. Out of the Big 3 Comps. of 2018, Alina won 1. I think some reflection and perhaps a new direction may be required. Keep in mind that this was a Japanese lady who didn't even make the World junior podium last season. Status quo is no longer an option.

nastya's on the verge of tears:(

They hammered her with that low PCs... I do think that Kanysheva deserves to be 3rd, especially after holding on to the position after the SP and FS but Tarakanova's score is just way too low for what she delivered. I love also Anna S but they gave her 60 PCS with 2 falls and Nastya got 57 PCS for a clean program with superior skating skills...and she does transitions in and out of her jumps! :slink:
