2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Personally I think the situation could be very simple.
Evgenia after lost OGM(and injury) simply realises that she can't bear such intensive trainings anymore(because of age, etc), which Eteri uses for her girls. The only question is why she couldn't have done it in more decent way, without 3 days of rumors and all that mess. Also, Eteri is being not so smart to spill all that mud(probably letting herself being too emotional, she probably can't control herself good enough). Both could have handled this situation much better...

Tbh we don’t know that it was Evgenia who leaked the news. For what we know, she was on holiday and intended to give a statement once back (today). Either way, I think her statement was much more mature than Eteri. She wished well to all the girls, and thanked her former team for the support they gave her for 10 years.

Just thought about this. Two interesting situations, not really linked to each other, but might be demonstrative...

1) Alina is getting kicked out of Eteri's group two years ago. Being a good girl, she comes to "say goodbye", give flowers, etc. Eteri changes her mind and proposes to "try again". Alina wins OGM in Pyeongchang.
2) Evgenia loses OGM. Supposedly blames Eteri for "not keeping Alina in juniors for one more year". Waits a couple of months, leaves Eteri's group with a big drama.

Not an end for both of stories though. Let's see how it continues for both of them :)

Seems to me the person causing drama is Eteri. Med wanted to leave clearly in a quiet way. I don't see the comparisions. Alina was getting kicked out for not working hard enough.

Med's leaving because she feels coach not in her corner (always training folks to replace her.)

It's amazing that you have no worries over Polina, Takaranova, Trusova and other girls and choose to ignore that their mentality and health might be both in danger.

I love Alina. She is a great girl. But to be honest if I were in your place I would be worried for her right now. This is not the case to boost up Alina and drag down Med. because frankly, their health is the top piority.

Polina is out of Eteri group as well. Not only her, no update on Takaranova, some say her condition is horrible (anorexia) I don't know what's wrong. It sounds worrying.

You can dream of a perfect scenario for Alina and Eteri. I am kinda worrying.

Why should I worry about her lol? I'm just a guy from the side. It's her parents who should take care of her. I'm just a person who likes her as a skater and her personality. I'm just watching all of this from the side, and being glad when she wins, may be a little sad when she loses. And even if Alina decides to leave Eteri for whatever reasons, or even quit skating, it's not like this is the end of her life. If someone thinks Eteri is a good coach for them and they will train with her - be it. If someone thinks Eteri is not an option anymore and one has to leave - be it. It's up to them to decide what's better for them, not for their fans. But I kinda wish such "switches" or "quits" would happen in a different way.

Oh gods, c'mon people. How do you know Evegenia never went to Eteri and quietly, calmly asked for permission to train overseas and leave? It could have been amicable. But no, more likely than not, if what Polina's departure shows, it was either stay with Eteri or burn (in Eteri's mind), so this is what we got. Even if it was Zhenya who betrayed, what Eteri did is not the right way anyways.

Count me in as another one who is worried for Alina. Eteri didn't look pleased when she won OGM, and she looked pissed after the disaster at Worlds. Now since Eteri got a 'BOrser v. Eteri' war going on inside her head, probably the RusFed would also be watching closely and Eteri's 'usefulness' could be re-evaluated, it's gonna get ugly. Since Eteri mainly coaches ladies, Alina is going to be pushed to prove her coaching superiority.

Damn it, I just want her to have ice cream, a dog, and decent no-tutu programmes :palmf:

Im kinda worried for Alina too,we know how competitive eteri is she wants her girl to be on the top and now she have all the reason to show evgenia that she will be sorry she left her🤣🤣🤣. Alina vs. Evgenia saga continue.

I just hope she leaves Alina alone. Please not drag her into this war and push her so hard she crumbles. It‘s no good. And we all know Eteri doesn‘t seem to care about the health of her students anyway, so... Let‘s hope Daniil‘s somewhat able to protect her. Eteri will and already showed that she didn‘t take this lightly.

As well to everyone who wishes Zhenya responded earlier if she was on holiday and her team didn’t leak the info and I don’t think they did what should she have done. If she went on social media that would probably start a Twitter war so I think it was the right decision to wait until she was in Russia and could put out a statement in person

There are many rumors now in media. :scard8: I guess sport sites are the true winners in this situation. They are making big rating rn
And idk but I read that Polina decided to retire because of her hereditary disease in knee...
We should wait a little more

Very good point. I think sudden Polina's departure while we all saw recent photos of her with Eteri working on new programs, proofs once again, there is no 'easy' way to leave Eteri apart of retirement probably...

Oh this is sad.

Looks to me like Evgenia is really showing class in here. Hopefully all will calm down now.

It‘s funny because when I showed a friend of mine who doesn’t follow figure skating two videos of Zhenya and Alina asking who she guessed was the Olympic Champion, she totally thought it was Zhenya. But not for her skating primarily but more her costum. She looked at them both and whe she saw Alina she said: „No way she‘s won the OGM. That‘s what my five year old cousin is wearing in her first skating competitions.“ And then she saw Alina skate. And suddenly she was like: „Oh my god. Why could they give such a beautiful and talented girl costumes like that, making her look like a little child compared to all these women?“

And I can‘t agree more. Alina deserves more than this. They didn‘t make Evgenia skate in tutus in her first senior season. Obviously the program worked for Alina but it just added fuel to the fire, making her look even more childish compared to Zhenya. Had she gotten a decent costume, people would have realised that she in fact doesn‘t seem like more of a little child anymore than some other skaters. But that tutus made her stand out and not in a good way.

Just my opinion, though. And that example above was not to bash Alina but rather to show that for Alina to be taken seriously she needs well designed costumes so that she‘s not just the „young jumping bean doing the most difficult program in seniors‘ skating“.

I really, really hope that Polina decides to continue skating. She's my favorite and she's so talented!!!

She could probably do well with CSKA. At least they have the politics to make sure she doesn't get totally ignored.

I am not sure how you see this but personally I find Alina's tutu iconic. She looks beautiful in it.

Hmmm. Alina’s iconic red tutu was originally Zhenya’s from her junior days which was given to Alina because she couldn’t afford a new one and it was similarly appropriate whilst Alina was a junior. It was only because Alina kept her routine that they kept the tutu as a costume when she was a senior.

This is a hard pill to swallow for some people that Medvedeva is coming to Canada to train. Like I said in a previous post, she will be able to eat, drink and be merry. Come and go as she please with all the freedom and hospitality that a girl wish for. The main thing also is that she will have a coach that will respect her and not drag her around the ice if she falls.

The dress alina wore at the Olympics was a new one because she grew. :rolleye:

Pretty sure that people don´t have a problem with Alina for being/ looking like a little girl. And a costume won´t do any good to anyone if the technique /artistry isn´t there.

Patrick Chan has skated in a tshirt and pants and that didn´t affect his chances to medal.
