2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Really can't wait how Worlds will fare and how GP selection will go. Next season will be very interesting for sure

Assuming you are talking senior worlds there is still the issue will Russia have three ladies after it. Japan, USA, Korea and ET not to mention the Swiss or Finnish ladies or a revived Gabby Daleman.Imagine if Japan sweeps, ET does her quad and gets fourth. Lim does her best and fifth, Bradie and Mariah take 6th and 7th or even if Russia gets 6th but the next lady is 8th or 9th goodbye three spots. and if the Russian team battle wasn't interesting enough down to two spots this would be civil war. Pogo, Radinova, Leonova and probably Liza really wouldn't be in the mix unless Liza gets her 3a'sconsistent.

Ya, it definitely won’t be an easy task for Sofia and Zhenya to hold onto 3 spots but it’s far from impossible as they do have some momentum. But I think it’s better to lower our expectations a bit. I mean, the highly anticipated Russian sweep at last year’s and this year’s JWC didn’t happen. I wish Russian Fed had chosen to send Liza. Then there would be less of this doubt for spots.

And if Liza would have been chosen but would have failed to do the 3a? Then what then? There would not be any less discussion or fearing of the 3 spots. Because besides her jumps Liza doesn't really have much. Her spins aren't that great . She doesn't have pcs puffer to fall back on.

It seems that someone was going to grab Trusova shoulders to stop jumping quads at the end of the exhibition. There is no other way to stop it. Also very significant as she finish your routine, with your fist raised.

Is Alina not skating at Worlds?
Because if she is, I think she might be able to help hold onto 3 spots.
Like she did in 2018.

Even though she fell 3 times, she still fought for every jump.
And she fought for every non-jump element.
And she finished 5th and helped secure the 3 spots that Russia has in 2019.

I think it is a bit early to expect the worst from Alina. I can understand why people don’t see her finishing on the podium but I can see her finishing top 6. We also can’t say for certain how Evgenia will do. We don’t know how Liza would do either.

New exhibitions by Anna and Sasha! I have to admit, I don‘t get Anna‘s ex at all... I mean, it‘s nice and all that she‘s trying to do something more fierce and she herself certainly isn‘t bad at it but the choreo and music... Not my taste and it made me wish for Dreamcatcher all the way through. Since she‘ll likely use this next year too, I‘ll have to get used to it.

Sasha’s exhibition on the other hand, I like. The costume is absolutely ridiculous of course (I know, I know, the music video and all) but she has fun doing it and the theme suits her. Unstoppable? Indeed, Sasha, indeed. It seems like a fun exhibition and it‘s certainly better than “I don‘t pop my kork for every guy I see“ Big Spender... :slink: I liked that move she did into one of her jumps - 3F? Overall, it‘s fun, it‘s energetic and has her trademark tricks (cantilever, jumps). Quite a good vehicle for her. A mature program it is not but it doesn‘t have to be, it‘s an exhibition after all and it‘s main purpose is to be entertaining. Which it certainly is. I only hope she‘ll get a costume that isn‘t AS juniorish for her senior debut.

As far as I know Alina is still alive. I don‘t want to make any predictions but if Alina and Zhenya have any undeniable advantage over the other Russian ladies, it‘s their reputation. They will almost certainly get high PCS, even if they bomb. Especially Alina, look at Euros and the PCS for the FS. Early in the season Zhenya’s PCS dropped a bit (not something major but still visible) due to her lack of transitions and fairly empty programs. Now with Tosca, which is a very good and fitting vehicle for her and a more complete Tango (that still isn’t a Tango but at least a full program), I have no doubt her PCS will be on par with many of the top ladies, if not Alina. So, I‘d say unless all three of the Russians bomb, they should be fine to keep the three spots. What do they need? 5+8 at the very least, right? Well, last year Alina fell three times and still got 5th. The field is stronger this year but still. Sofia should manage a solid 8th place with her consistency. She can be beaten by the 3 Japanese, Lim, Bradie, Alina, Zhenya and Lil‘Bet and she‘ll still be eigth. One of Zhenya or Alina will make the top 5 then, more likely Alina. Of course, nothing is set in stone but I think it‘s more likely for Russia to keep the spots rather than lose them. But of course, everything‘s possible as we‘ve just seen Japan lose their third spot at JWC. I just really hope this doesn‘t happen.

And we never know with Alina. She could bomb but she could also show skates like at the beginning of the season and if she does that, she‘ll almost certainly be on the podium, battling for gold. I‘d have sent Liza too, probably but her illness cost her some momentum.

About this year‘s JWC: Alena was injured. Had she been there I have no doubt she‘d have landed on the podium.

Let me correct:

TAT: "And Eteri Georgievna obviously cannot come, because she is preparing for World Championship... Her Zagitova".
Listen even if you don't speak russian, the intonations are priceless.

Yeah, moriel. I was actually referring to that exact comment but I wanted to spare the drama as I saw that no one here paid attention to it. I do understand a little bit Russian and I got what TAT meant by those words. I even think that translated into English it doesn't sound as harsh it was.

You are being very disrespectful. Look at what heights that team brought Alena. If you're gonna be nasty like this, just leave.

Didnt Russia keep 3 spots last year with Alina 5th Masha 8th and Stasya 19th? Anyone really think Alina Sofia and Zhenya wont do better than that? I thought not.

I am imagining as hard as I can, but somehow it is just not working out that way in my mind's eye. :) In my imagination, I always see Zagitovova somehow managing to snatch 5th with Medvedeva or Samodurova squeaking through with 8th. Maybe even 7th. ;)

I loved the quick reaction of the man; don’t know who he is. So after Tarasova says “her Zagitova,” he says “The Olympic Champion?” :-) :-) :-)

Hi everyone! I have a lot of favourite moments, and I'll write about it tomorrow because I have a flight in 1h. I also filmed the gala finale until the very end, and I'll upload that too. I think the one thing that left me speechless was Sasha's 4T from a cantilever today!

On one hand, I don't want drama, but on the other hand, many people on this forum seem to have illusions about TAT. I think it is relevant to show that she she is no Ted Barton, and that she is extremely biased.

Very true

I am glad you filmed it, because I regret that I didn’t film anything. That one was beautiful. I wanted to enjoy it rather to film and loose the magic but sometimes you need both.
