2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Well, I didn't want to say anything in this matter. But I have seen how many posters support your post and I becam surprised..And I will be unpopular.

I read Eteri's post the post of about Eteri's life, in her own words. She doesn't mention Med's name. She told a story of her incredibly hard year, and Med is part of that with her move one of the bad things of a bad year. I don't believe that was an attack on Med just a fact what made for her bad feeling especially in those tragedies.
To say she is a bad person is a shame.:( I don't care about Eteri, I don't know her, I have no exact informations on her, I don't follow her in social media now, just read the articles by the journalist, etc. I just don't like if anybody became an evil by the biased fans despite we could read many opinions on her from her pupils, who don't just respect her but love her....But many posters ignore those informations...

I don't say I would like to see your and all of those posters' reactions, acts in similar situations as Eteri was in the whole last year because I don't want you bad things, tragedies in your life. She was working hard for her pupils she sat next to them on competitions and she probably was crying inside..

I really ashamed of myself because of this post knowing the whole story.

p.s: I like Medvedeva.
Eteri won many great victories last weekend. But this isn’t about biased fans, I’m fans of all of her incredible skaters - Alina, the 3A, and Zhenya. Doesn’t mean we can’t still be critical of some of her training methods and think that this latest post was in poor taste.

I’d also challenge you to name one former pupil who loves her? Some have gone on to say relatively decent things, that may be politically motivated, but I hardly see evidence that her former pupils continue to have a close relationship with her or talk positively about her.

What if Zhenya had won worlds, or placed highest of the Russians (if Alina had melted down), and Orser posted the next day about how he had such a tough time this year with all the negative publicity and hate direct at him, including a former coach going on TV to bad mouth one of his students. But now they’d turned a corner and it was all worth it! Do you think people would be okay with this? Because I would say it’s inappropriate to post at that point and feels like shade and would be completely unnecessary as his and his students victory should speak for itself.

I’d also point out that Eteri hadnt yet posted anything thanking Alina for her hard work or congratulating her specifically for her victory at the time she posted her controversial post. You’d think that would have been her priority before posting an old letter she wrote to herself. Again, that would have also made the post more appropriate.

Exactly. Remember Polina Shelepen's recent inteview on the matter of her departure, where she confessed that she left Eteri without saying goodbye or anything, because she felt she couldn't look into her eyes. She very clearly expressed "I loved her (Eteri)."

I can't blame young girl that she isn't able to gather the courage to speak openly with her coach about departure, on the other hand I can't either blame a coach who invested not only time and effort, but also part of herself into her student (which is much more than some money), who then leaves and says nothing, not even thanks her. Acknowledgement on a press conference is not the thing, this should be personal. Some people on the west probably understand the relation between the coach-athlete only on commercial basis, I pay, you coach, but you can see there are teams, incl. Khrustalny, where it is not just on commercial basis. It is much deeper. And I don't say "deeper" necesarilly means "friendly" or "mother-daughter", but they need to understand each other. That's also why team Tutberidze is able to create proper programs for each athlete. Some criticize e. g. Alyona's programs, that "with her it is beauty, but with anybody else it would be ridiculous". But that souldn't be viewed negatively in my opinion. They just don't create generic programs for anybody, but specific programs for particular athletes. But that requires understanding and confidence on both sides.

We in the West understand coach/student relationships. Figure skating is an exception, but for a majority of sports the athlete doesn’t pay the coach. The coach may be paid through a school or another organization, but not by an athlete or the athletes family. I just celebrated a coach from 15 years ago recent retirement with many other former athletes. We made special videos to honor and commemorate her. I never paid her a dime and neither did my teammates (although they may have made donations to the team). Maybe there are cultural differences but our coaching relationships can also be very intimate and like parental figures. It’s not just “commercial.” Figure skating is just an extremely expensive sport that doesn’t get sponsored by schools or the community like other sports so the relationship between coach/athlete is different.

Nice use of false equivalency here. I wasn’t aware Brian was having such a deeply emotional struggle with his parent dying last year. I wasn’t aware Brian had public interviews where he could barely hold his emotions together from how traumatic the experience was. Boo hoo, he got professional criticism. He’s been there, done that. Most top coaches get criticized in the media. They deal with it. If you’re trying to equate the kind of comments Brian has gotten in a few months to the pure vitriol that has been directed towards Eteri as a coach for years, give me a break. Add on top of that the fact that a significant proportion of the Eteri hate has nothing to do with coaching-they’re personal attacks, just like what’s happening right here.

This is probably not true. The P.S. that accompanies the message you are referring to ends with "Thanks to Alina Zagitova and Liza Tursynbaeva for the best present to entire our team".

This thread is almost at 1000 pages!
Anyway, I wish we’d stop talking about Medvedeva and Eteri. It’s just going in circles.

I predict that trusova will come out with a bang next season, not affected by puberty. She’ll receive among the highest PCS and will dominate. Trusova is far from my favorite skater, but I have to admit, her jumps are awesome.

I have doubts that my favorite, Kostornaya, will be in the mix, unless she learns a 3A. Extra Difficult Jumps are what matter nowadays.

Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man. i always wanted to use it sorry:biggrin:

Well, I didn't want to say anything in this matter. But I have seen how many posters support your post and I became surprised. I will be unpopular or popular again(vox populi vox dei)

Primo. Eteri mentioned Zhenya. She wrote about 3 persons, parents nad Zhenya, Eteri used "circumlocution" she didnt write Zhenya. she used:Next is the strange departure of my students, one of whom I set as an example for everyone and for which I honestly made 200% of the 100 possible in sports. thats why comments under her post were about Zhenya.

Secundo. I didnt write that Eteri is attacking Zhenya. I wrote that Eteri should be more responsible for her words because she is public person and she can add fuel to flame wars and it happened.

Tertio. I didnt write Eteri is bad person, I wrote she isnt great person(but who is:biggrin:). she mentioned that her friends discouraged her from posting that? because they knew how people will react

Ulitmo. again my posts were about being smarter and thinking twice before posting something because you can trigger flame war/ hate. not that Eter is bad or Zheyna is good.

I am really ashamed of posting again. Desole

ps. Kogan brothers are funny guys

Do you guys know if there'll be a livestream of Eteri's show? Or at least videos to come later? I'd love seeing it all, especially since I think it's first of the kind for Eteri.

I have not met any details about this show. Since this is indeed the first time, they will work on this after returning from Japan. Sold out about 90% of tickets at the moment. I also hope for a live broadcast.

She is a blogger with quite an audience.
She was EXTREMELY agressive against Alina (honestly, the only reason for Alina and her family not to sue Rodina is because they dont want more hate against Alina in the internets which this would surely produce).

Rodina is ugly. Only jealousy can make people acting like she does for not being amazing like Alina. She should be ashamed to attack a minor or she has no life and she’s bored.

Well, Evgenia got another round of attacks in social media due to Eteri's post. It doesnt matter whether Evgenia's name is mentioned. Eteri knows fully well how some of fans are, she should not be stirring up things.
And if anyone says it's sexist, unfair criticism etc cos Eteri is a woman, its none of that. I happen to think Eteri have much more leeway cos she's woman.
If Orser or Rafael were to make such remarks, almost 1 year after the student has left the reactions would be -
"Oh, come on, man up & move on." "Dont be petty like a woman, let it go." "Should be more big hearted, why must calculative with young people".
And the male coaches will be seen as unprofessional, petty, holding a grudge. Eteri, people here are defending her, lol.

No one should have to face that type of criticism.

Because someone has left eteri doesn't mean they don't love her or have love for her. I'm thinking of Yulia and Evgenia in particular. When they left the coach it's kind of like children leaving home for the first time. They wanted their freedom. It doesn't mean they don't appreciate or love what the former coach and the staff did for them.Zhenya was probably scared to go sit down with Eteri and tell her she was leaving after 11 years together in which the coach treated her like a daughter in some people's eyes. Which is why the pain was so deep for eteri. In reality it's okay this is life. People come and people go even people you love.
