2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Last season they didn't max out their CS spots, even leaving aside the events in NA.

Lombardia
- Alina Zagitova
- Elizaveta Tuktamysheva

Ondrej Nepela
- Evgenia Medvedeva
- Elena Radionova
- Alena Leonova

Nebelhorn
- No one, but it was the Olympic qualifier and lots of countries with spots avoided it

Finlandia
- Maria Sotskova
- Alena Leonova
- Elizaveta Tuktamysheva

Minsk
- Serafima Sakhanovitch
- Anastasia Gracheva

Warsaw
- Stanislava Konstantinova
- Serafima Sakhanovitch
- Alexandra Avstriyskaya

Tallinn
- Alisa Fedichkina
- Stanislava Konstantinova
- Alexandra Avstriyskaya

Golden Spin
- Elizaveta Tuktamysheva
- Alisa Fedichkina
- Stanislava Konstantinova

In total, 11 girls got CS events and 19 spots were used.
- 5 got 1 assignment (Evgenia, Alina, Maria, Elena, Anastasia Gracheva)
- 4 got 2 assignments (Alena, Alisa, Serafima, Alexandra Avstriyskaya)
- 2 got 3 assignments (Stanislava, Elizaveta)

Of the girls on the GP, Anna and Polina didn't have CS events (injury related??). Of the girls who got assignments, 7 were on the GP (though Serafima only got a replacement spot) . Stanislava and Alisa were on the JGP, Anastasia and Alexandra only had CS events.

I would expect at least one or two of the GP girls to want more than one CS.

Hmm, yes, that's weird. I'd think this year they'd want to use them all as last year's team is a lot less strong than this year's. I'm not sure where Alexandra Avstriyskaya's spots came from considering she didn't even make nationals the year before as far as I know.
And if a few GP girls want two spots, I'm sure there's a few who won't do them, too.

Also, I just realized that there's 10 competitions and not 7 (don't know where I got that from) So 30 spots, max. If they don't use all of them, 25ish seems reasonable to me.

Fedichkina would be next in line for CS competitions I would think.

I think there’s effectively 24 spots at stake, the 2 North American competitions seem to be ‘reserved’ for North American/Asian skaters or at least non-Russians. Also as you say the 8/9 GP competitors will want a warm-up event, plus it will be vital for all Senior qualified competitors to get as high a Seasons Best as possible in time for the 2019-20 season – I imagine a minimum of 200 Internationally will be required to get you on Senior GPs in 2019/20.

Re skaters I think it will be the 6 skaters you listed, however I suspect 1 or 2 them might do JGPs and then switch to CS events if their JGP doesn’t go too well (bit like Stanislava/Alisa last season). However if they do well they’ll get a 2nd JGP and hopefully reach the final and get 3 chances at Seasons Bests that way. Alternatively they’ll switch and maybe get 2 chances. Skaters like this are probably Anastasiia Gubanova if not the Host Pick at Rostelecom and Anna Tarusina. I imagine they’ll think it’s better for skaters to make an impact at senior Junior level rather than CSs but I may be wrong.

Skaters overall I would say are in the picture are, at least 2nd year Seniors, Alena Leonova if she doesn’t retire, Serafima Sakhanovich, Alisa Fedichkina, Valeria Mikhailova and Ekaterina Kurakova. With 1st year Seniors, Anastasiia Gubanova, Anastasia Gulyakova, Elizaveta Nugumanova, Sofia Samodurova and Anna Tarusina.

That’s 10 skaters competing for 15 spots, but as I say one or two may do JGPs and see how it goes. Also there’s the possibility of one or two retirements or country switching. I have a feeling they’ll just about do it, and hopefully get all ladies that will be senior eligible in 2019-20 a couple of chances at least of getting those all important Seasons Bests.

I've just rewatched Tuktamisheva's 2011 SP. It's still really nice :) What score do you guys think she would have got considering scoring nowadays? Do you know why she changed coaches? (From Veretennikova to Prokofiewa?)

I think that it would be more interesting to see if anyone knows where these names came from. Name etymology, if you will.

Some people asked me before why I consider Elizaveta Tuktamysheva to be the true queen of FS. :p

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokhtamysh

https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Тохтамыш

It is possible that she could be one of the +/- 15,000,000 direct descendants of Ghengis Khan. :eeking: These last names aren't given out for no reason!

Ilnazovna and Armanovna are too easy because those are not russian names :)
I think i can't remember any other since i don't really care about people's patronyms and never even bother remembering them :)

I see that Elizaveta Tarakanova was a dvoryanka. So simply a noble, not of royal Tsar blood. The "princess" in wiki is misleading, she was not a real princess. Noble/duchess/countess, although not exactly accurate, is much less misleading.

Tarakan means cockroach in Russian. However that word is not Slavic and probably has Turkic (Тюркский) origins.

You can read this, quite interesting. :) "Ilya Muromets and Batiy Batiyevich". (most likely Batu Khan )

I'm mostly referring to the fact that Tarakanovs were a noble family (second link)

But it means little: the servants of the nobles received the same last names after their masters. That's why if you meet Sheremetyev these days - I actually know one Sheremetyeva - 90%+ is that one's ancestors were not noble.

1. Vitalievna - Gubanova
2. Igorevna x2 skaters - Elena, Daria

I only knew a few. Some I got from other people's posts already, some I think I remember from looking at their Wiki pages in the past, but I'm not sure and I guessed a couple completely.
