Let me remind you that Pogorilaya, to whom you refer as an example of adult figure skater, was 18 years of age when she won her wolrd bronze medal, this is the same age Medvedeva is at the moment. So, where does your comment about Eteri not having any successful adult skater comes from, I have no idea..

Usually, their choreo is overcrowded and this diminish the impact of the program. Don't forget that less is more
And a busy choreo might work for skaters with great musicality and skating skills, but this is something isolated.

Exactly. Im a yuzu fan but I reckon yuzu bombed his senior debut FS ziggoweinsen or whatever that name was. The music was hard to dance to and the program was just jampacked with movements. Then yuzu did 2 fs and sp the nxt season with amaaaazing choreo that was easy to catch on and was winning and on podiums.. Clear distinguishable choreo is important

The thing about details and complexity is that they're only good when they are effective. If a position is half-completed or an edge not held, the detail is a bit useless and the choreography ends up looking like a checklist of movements.

Of course if the judges still reward it then that's an issue with them. If the judges dock skaters in the choreography mark for choreography that's too busy then maybe they would focus more on finesse and actually letting the choreography breathe.

Yes. On SOI zhenya and zagitova looked great in Jeff Butt choreo with Katelyn. This is what Im talkin about

There is a Russian slang word (originally Serbian) - khaltura (халтура). It means a poorly done job due to lack of interest, motivation, or a "why bother/who cares" type of mentality which has plagued Russia throughout it's history..

There is no such a word in any of ex Yugoslavian countries including Serbia. Like there is no logic in many of late statements in this thread tho

Didn't Ksenia Makarova train in USA? Kulik and Yagudin did train with Tarasova in USA when they won their Oly gold.

I think it is not a ban on training outside, but more a practical one: you have to have those money. Living abroad is not cheap, also put on top the money to visit your family. The most of skaters, especially the girls are very young, i don't think it would be easy for the families to let them alone in another country when they have pretty good alternatives still in Russia. Also the language and mentality could be a problem to integrate oneself in another land training camp.

The Russian coaches get subventions and payment from the Russian federation and i think the Russian figure skaters don't have to pay as much for coach and for ice time like in USA for example.

It's not illegal for Russians to train outside of Russia. Ilinykh/Katsalapov trained outside of Russia after 2014. Maria Sotskova had a summer outing with Rafael Vladimirovich Aratunian, etc.

Not illegal, but difficult for most. Figure skating is free in Russia. Coaches like Brian Orser, etc. are very expensive. Most skaters cannot afford to go and pay for another coach, especially when it's free at home. Then there's the issue with moving to another country; more money. Also emotionally taxing. Same with choreography I think. I remember Radionova saying when she first started juniors and even in seniors her and her coaches cut the music by themselves and some were very sloppy cuts, and she wanted to work with other choreographers like Nikolai Morozov and Shaelynn but they couldn't afford it. It was only after she got a sponsorship with Riedell that she could get professionally edited music and work with different choreographers, though neither seemed to help her much :S Then you have skaters like Alina who couldn't even afford first Don Quixote dress, and Zhenya was nice enough to lend her the old one

...this girl has gorgeous choreo. Doesn’t matter that she is from US and that her choreo suffered a bit under a Russian coach this season She is a great example that any skater could learn a thing or two from just like our favorite Russian skaters are too

Mariah has always been a beautiful skater but I'm not the biggest fan of that program. And yeah, Raf generally isn't known to be the best at helping his skaters with suitable programs. But Raf is actually Armenian, I think is just a common misconception because he used to work in Russia. But hey, Eteri used to work in the states but she's not American

Too expensive. For such amount of money you should have a guarantee you win all major tournaments in next four years. I doubt any NA coach could provide it.

It is not at all illegal. It is just too expensive and most russian skaters cannot afford it.
You may say FS is also expensive in USA, but that is not the same: keep in mind that average monthly income in Russia is under 300.
FS is basically free in Russia. Those kids who make the team get free coaching and free medical assistance.
If you want to see how Russian skaters live, check that japanese TV thing where they filmed Alina's apartment.

Now, just tell me, how much Orser / American coaches charge per hour, and how many hours / month an average Russian family would be able to pay?

That is an interesting question because Russian tennis players have trained outside of Russia for 20 years or more and still kept their Russian citizenship and represented Russia and international competitions. So it's not illegal for Russian athletes to train outside of Russia and with all so doping scandals going on it would make sense for Russian athletes such as track and field athletes to train outside of Russia and not being in the Russian system but still represent Russia in competition.

There was a great Russian pairs team Elena and Anton who trained in New Jersey for years as well as in Russia.

Could be. Much huge tennis stars like Anna Kournikova and Maria Sharapova Move To America with no money I like 7 or 8 years old and took the risk to go to the academy in Florida and made something of themselves. I think we may see more of that in the future in figure skating in Russia with the girls because it's only going to get bigger more skaters more talented youngsters and they're not going to have enough coaches in rush out to train them all so they're going to have to move abroad to receive the coaching and attention they need.
