2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

2020 is tricky, but in 2022 I'm pretty sure at least 3/4 of what you wrote won't happen. ;)

The thing is... There easily will be 6+ girls with 3Lz+3Lo and Quads and 3As at RusNats 2022.
And well, one can turn senior at 15 so...

TAT is not getting younger either, and her influence is not growing either.

Apparently the Dutch Figure Skating Association is proposing an urgent proposal re this. Age limit 17, 2020. https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/threads/isu-rules-changes-proposals-reaction.102100/page-9 post 244. I haven't got the Facebook link, perhaps someone else has.

Wouldn't affect Alexandra Trusova etc. in 2019, plus presumably they'd have some sort of grandfather clause so that they don't go back to juniors in 2020 (Alexandra would only be 16). However from what I can see it would affect any skater not currently in Juniors e.g. Alena Kanysheva, Ksenia Sinitsyna, Alysa Liu of the States. Come 2020 they'd only be 15 so would have to wait a further 2 years, and wouldn't even by eligible for the next Olympics, if I've got it right. This could be a massive change if it happens to go through.

I really don't get this. Alysa Liu is the potential 2020 olympic medalist. Someone like USA lose a lot more than Russia with that rule.

Sima is doing a Ice show in Italy?

I love seeing her nailing triples in the off season but that half loop reminds me of a bird with a broken wing hobbling about. Come on girl...put some “I meant to do that” to it. Still...considering the low points she’s had it’s really a good feeling to see her keep fighting.

I hope she continues on her journey for many years to come. She’s got heart!

I hope we see video :o:

Sima stole Polish audience (and journalists) hearts at Warsaw Cup last year. There was a feature during Olympics suggesting that she might switch to Poland and this would let her to compete on international level. Mostly a jurnalist's idea, nothing serious, but tells how she can impress people.

Seeing that program again, I found a fancam of it from SkAm https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ek1Yr7Bvu1M
She may not have the jump quality or the transitions of the top Russian ladies, but she skates big, with speed and great ice coverage and plenty of charm. And she really knows how to use musical highlights; in her FS, there was a magnificently timed ina bauer that I really enjoyed seeing. It wasn't the deepest layback, I don't think it was particularly fast or held for very long either, but it was so well timed that it wowed me anyway! I hope with Turenko she gets better choreography, as this year's was a tad empty, and keeps at it :cheer2:

The state of Russian women's skating. Now that is the topic. There is much talk of talent - more jumping but some artistry. But no real great hope as for long term = or rather proven long term. Perhaps Evgenia is the best hope but Trusova and Zagitova and the other juniors are still huge ginormaous question marks as to surviving puberty. We have no idea if Anna Pogo will regain her form an ditto for Liza T and Elena R. On the other hand you compare them to the Japanese and for whatever reason you have more confidence that their ladies will be more consistent and lasting. It will be interesting to see if Russia can have some lady take the crown and hold on to it for a while. Otherwise it is almost like playing hot potato who will be the next Russia world threat.

yeah, I really doubt Auxier REALLY this now, considering Alysa Liu is currently the perfect age to debut in the Beijing Olympic season...

Debut like Alina maybe. ;)

Auxier wants the age limit to be 17 or 18 huh? That means Sasha will be in juniors for 4 or 5 years. Lol! What about Alina? Do they have the nads to raise the age to 17 leaving the soon to be 16 year old olympic champion in no womans land? I cant believe that would happen. But I guess its possible.

1) How does Auxier think he can just tell us what "everyone" wants to see? What about those of us who simply want to see the best skating -- not the "mature women's skating" if it means watered down content where it's an event to land a lutz....
2) Why do you get to decide that we don't see Shcherbakova, Kostornaya, and Trusova until 19-20? Even if Auxier suddenly has the power to decide things like this, he says 17-18, not 19-20. Plus, THERE IS NOTHING IN THIS YEAR'S PROPOSAL ABOUT RAISING THE AGE. So it can't happen until 2020 at the very earliest -- when Shcherbakova, Kostornaya, and Trusova will all have been senior eligible for a year already. You really think that if it passed then, they'd send them BACK DOWN TO JUNIORS???

This is just wrong on so many levels....

You just don't know all rules. There is right to present urgent proposals to ISU Congress in June after ISU Communike (i.e. this year's list of official proposals) was released in the beginning of May - if it's done no closer than two weeks until Congress will take place.

Such a proposal... blocking everyone entering after 2019-2020, the specific year during which Russia has the strongest age group ever? Completely blocking the competition until after Olympics? That's some proposal... Do they not follow juniors or do they actually not know what would happen?

I guess Russia wouldn't mind... And then they'd propose a reversal for the following quad after sweeping the Olympics.

Speaking of which, if those age limits would hold... Akatieva's age group would then be first year eligible for the 2026 Olympics... age group that can also be considered the next "strongest ever".

I wouldn't be this optimistic. I mean they can agree to this proposal but change "little details" like year 2020-2021 to a more close date. Or they can't change details of approved proposals at all?

Well this has been said for many years. We’ve reached a point where the Russian with the crown needs to make errors to even open the door for the competition. The biggest crown of the year was won by the top Russian skater as most would have predicted. The depth is there in Russia that if they suddenly lower their standards to everyone else they have plenty of depth to compete still.

The only reason this narrative even exists in the first place is because several of the top 20 athletes who could compete for the top spots in the major championships aren’t even allowed to compete due to the way spots are given out. So the musical chairs and uncertainty (hot potato) is a byproduct and not something Russian ladies can do much about. I’m sure someone will rise to the top of the Russian field and have a bad day again. It’s bound to happen ;)

Is there even a senior lady out there who had a statistically better season than Gubanova? I’m not talking about PCS. I’m talking landing the jumps and elements. She didn’t even get to go to JWC. That’s depth.

In Canada and USA the national champion is a crown that has been shared from season to season. What’s the big deal?

Yeah. Konstantinova went to JWC and WC :rolleye:

She just doesn’t always show her potential otherwise she is a great talent. Gubanova’s errors at her first JGP proved to be fatal for her season. Kind of interesting that Tat is now doing Anastasia’s choreo :coffee:

You're speaking as if Konstantinova had ever been superb in JGP series

Senior as in... senior in 2018-2019 like Gubanova? Anna Tarusina had only clean skates. 8 competitions are listed on fskate.ru but it's possible she also participated in some smaller competitions that aren't on there. I believe Tarusina had every skate clean, no element negative GOE.
