2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Gubanova is turning senior finally! I hope she gets the host pick, her Juliet the year before is still haunting me  Hope the TAT programme is good, she's so lovely ~

(I don't think 2 GPs is possible? :<)

It's not like Osmond ever beat Medvedeva - although since it's gonna be an adjustment season for Med, she might have a slow start. Either way, bc she's gonna train in Canada it could be convenient to go there for her!

Osmond never beat Medvedeva, but it is an adjustments season.
SC is Canada and the local skaters are traditionally held up. Medvedeva just recovered from injury and is still adapting for the new training regime.
Imho, SC would be a bad tactical choice for her, because *IF* she loses to Osmond, that will be major, and SC has all the conditions for that to happen.

All this Anastasia talk got me like :yahoo:

Happy for Polina too. Training with Masha will he a positive experience for her I think.

On a side note.....how cool would it be to see Elena have a surprise season. When she’s at her best she is really fun to watch. With so many fun skaters to root for sometimes I wish we just had a Russian summer circuit or maybe one for the skaters who don’t make the international team that runs from February to March

Wasn’t Medvedeva held up in all her local competitions until Alina beat her at the Olympics. Same old same old..you brought her name up first...Osmond is the World Champion.

New interview with Radionova:

Sounds like she got over the disappointment of not making the Olympic Team, and is not ready to retire just yet. Here's hoping she has a great next season. The field is just getting tougher...

I really hope she shows any improvement. So far, Buyanova was not doing a good job with her =(
I suppose Buyanova was focused on Sotskova making the team and so on.

Agreed. Now that Buyanova has even more promising ladies skaters (Tsurskaya, Gubanova) I wonder if Radionova will get enough attention. I wonder if she regrets leaving Goncharenko? I was really sorry to see that split.

I don't buy adapting for the new training regime argument. The only argument to play it safe is if she has not fully recovered from her injury.

If she loses to Osmond, no matter where, I see few chances for her to be treated by judges the way she was treated. On the contrary, if I were her I would pick SC to let everyone see that the queen has returned to her senses and the big losses she had are all left in her "injury season". Come on, when she was clean she got more than 235. Only one other skater in the world is in this territory. Once again, Medvedeva has to be dominant right from the start rather than play tactics.

And the most likely scenario is that she won't be invited to SC same as Zagitova.

SC is the second GP event this year, and if she goes there, it will be likely her first (or second, if she does some early CS) competition after injury and under new coach.
As for dominant, she *has* to be dominant right from the start. What if? The difference between her and Osmond at Olympics was 7 points. That is literally one fall.

Also, SC shows nothing really. Its just some random GP. SA would show queen is back, since its first event. Rostelecom would show she is back, because Russia.

If anything, she should do Rostelecom (home ice advantage) and NHK (japanese don't prop their own skaters). Maybe SA because home advantage or not she can beat any american skater that will be there easily, even with mistakes. Imho, picking the GPs is part of the strategy to be dominant right from the start.

I think that SC is unlikely to pick Medvedeva, since they'll want to give Kaetlyn the best chance of winning. IdF is the likely choice for her 2nd event, assuming she won't want a back to back and NHK and CoR are out. I think CoC and CoR are a good guess for Alina. NHK makes sense for Evgenia, and I'm sure they'd want her. They normally like big names, Alina is probably at CoR and Kaetlyn's out since Satoko and Wakaba are in the same seed group.

SA:
SC: Kaetlyn
CoC: Alina
NHK: Evgenia
CoR: Alina
IdF: Kaetlyn

So either SA or IdF for Evgenia's 2nd event? SA would be fairly convenient with her training in Toronto (it's not that close, but same continent and only a small time change). If she needs later events, then IdF.

I actually wonder if we can extract info based on the CS plans. Orser sait Autumn Classic or Finlandia Trophy. Both are early in the season usually, so i would think it means she maybe will not do SA, but do a CS as her first event of the season.

This one should be the most likely outcome. I don't think anyone exists to threaten an all-Russian JGPF. It doesn't even matter if a couple of skaters have poor performances.
What about Young You with 3As?

What about Young You with 3As?

Well, last season...
Croatia JGP:
5th in SP (! and singled 3T)
3rd in FS (two <)

Italy JGP:
5th is SP (!)
4th in FS (!, < and a fall)

JWorlds:
9th in SP (! and <)
8th is FS (e and <<, 2 falls)

Her 3A will do nothing if she keeps URing and getting edge / unclear calls.
I mean, Rika Kihira, who has less jump issues, can barely threaten russian juniors.

I’m guessing Leonova will receive 2 GP spots as usual? Lucky girl! And she must LOVE to skate.

Mmm, no, don't think so.
She's not guaranteed any and there's a host of better girls to get the host spot.
Plus, at least 16 spots will be filled. So not really any room for Leonova...she might not even make nationals this year without a GP to automatically qualify her...

only because the Fed didn't play their spots wiselly enough and gave only 5 girls two spots each...if, say, Gulyakova had gone to Minsk, she might've gotten silver... and been in the final
