2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Now this makes me wonder where are all the people who say how immoral is to share private conversations, and why arent they bashing Zhulin.
Such revelation is literally as bad and reputation damaging as the stuff Eteri revealed about her and Med's private conversations.

I wouldn't say they're equivalents. I would say it depends on the context and the timing. Zhulin was asked to give his opinion on the breakup after it happened. If he did this during the Olympics, then it would be a different story.

In my opinion, it makes Eteri look good because she is a fair coach and treats her athletes equally. Even though she like Med more, she gave Alina an equal shot at winning gold. She didn't let her personal opinion get in the way of her coaching duties.

Sharing private conversation aren't bad per se, it all depends on the motive of why you're sharing that conversation.

He said this after Medvexit (nice job whoever is credited with that), right? If he’d said it before then it would be inappropriate. But this was potentially relevant information to provide context for both Eteri’s hurt by Zhenya but also helps support Zhenya.

I interpreted this to contradict the impression that Zhenya tried to manipulate her impartial coach and then leaves when she can’t get her way. Eteri preferred Zhenya to win. So it explains the hurt Eteri was feeling at her departure. But also calls into question the allegation that Eteri was all about fairness and equal opportunity.

Someone should create special Russian fs factions map/chart with every coach, fed and journalist put closer or further to each faction, so when we read sth controversial, we could look at the map/read the chart numbers and knew right away what kind of lobbyist we're dealing with.;)

Has someone a link where zhulin said this?

I only find this (google translate)
"I think the situation was extremely difficult. Evgenia had a trauma, and the Federation of figure skating in Russia worked to ensure that Alina Zagitova had higher marks. Our country needed a gold medal for the Games. As a result, the gold received Zagitova, not Medvedeva. Of course, now it is hard for her to meet on the ice every day with her main rival. Constant competition can lead to insanity. The transition will allow her to change the situation: new conditions, coach. Probably, this is the right step. At Tutberidze there is a huge clip of sportswomen. Now it is only necessary to make the parting as painless as possible, "Zhulin said in a conversation with RT.

**Disclaimer: this post is not directed towards skatingfan200 but the sentiments expressed by Zhulin and others in Russian fs world.**
This line of thinking is so inappropriate and unfair towards Alina, and has been the main topic since the Olympics. I do feel bad for Evgenia, but Alina outskated her, just like Tara outskated Michelle and Adelina outskated Yuna. I can recognize and admit to this despite being a fan of both Michelle and Yuna.

Exactly Sugar. So well said. Especially about Eteri.

This is one of the best posts I have read in my 4 plus years at GS. So true especially how Alina as been treated since the olympics.

Thanks again.

According to your logic, Eteri sharing private conversations with Medvedeva was also "potentially relevant information to provide context" and appropriate, i guess.

So far, even without Zhulin, we all know that Eteri preferred Medvedeva. I mean, look at all the pre-Olympic discussions where everybody was mad at how she is cold towards Alina and all cuddly with Zhenya.
Would make all sense that she wanted Zhenya to win.
Despite all this, Eteri gave both girls equal opportunities. She did not held Alina back. She did not simplify Alina's programs (even though she had the excuse of previous poor performances to simplify the SP, for example). We did not see her do a single thing that would reduce Alina's chances to win gold. If that is not fairness and equal opportunities, I don't know.

Well, what i know so far is:

- Buyanova does not like Eteri. Because all the successful students, and there have been rumors that Diana's father is actually Buyanova's husband. Even if not true, i see why she would be annoyed.
- TAT doesnt like Eteri. There are speculations that the recent events happened partially because of TAT's influence.
- Averbukh minds his business, i think, overall he seems to open his month only when he is mentioned.
- Vaitsehovskaya has a feud with Eteri going on since 2016 or so. She used to bash Medvedeva too, but at some point started to paint Medvedeva as Eteri's victim.
- Mishin and Plushenko seem to have their own agenda. Also, rumors are that Plushy is not the brightest one outside figure skating and not so good in this game of thrones.

I agree with this. Eteri was in a tough position this season, and she did a great job having her two star athletes peak at the Olympics. Evgenia's injury opened the door for Alina to get the backing of the Russian Fed, and Zagitova made the most of that help.

My logic was more, “she did it first...she implied private conversations are fair game.” Does it make it right? No. But if I go spilling private conversations had between me and my teenage student to the media to embarrass said teenage student, why should other people respect what I have said in private? I clearly believe it’s fair to publically air private conversations when it benefits me so why should I expect others won’t do the same? Especially if it contradicts the really petty smear campaign against a teenager I supposedly care about like she is family.

And how do you know she didn’t do a thing to reduce her chances of gold? You don’t think Eteri tried to politic in favor of Zhenya? Even after Alina won, everyone in their circle is reluctant to refer to her as the Olympic champion. She has admitted she wanted Zhenya to win and much of her behavior has confirmed this.

And what is the logic that not reducing Alina’s chance for gold means equal/fair treatment? That’s a really low bar to say “my coach didn’t overtly sabotage me” so I got equal treatment. Eteri’s not stupid. She wanted Alina to be successful, just not beat Zhenya. I don’t think she had a very high opinion of Alina and assumed she wouldn’t skate clean at the olympics, especially with a technically advanced program. Which is why she is shocked at the scores in the kiss and cry. And even angry when she beats Zhenya’s SP score. She really hadn’t prepared herself for the possibility that Alina would outperform Zhenya. And which skater did she spend her time with after the winners were announced? Parents might have a favorite child, you can’t help how you feel, but you should never openly talk about having a favorite or being happier when one is more successful than the other. Same rules apply with students.

I think Alina was mostly overlooked or neglected in terms of Eteri’s attention. Which ironically may have been the best thing for her. From what I can tell, Eteri put all her effort and focus on Zhenya - but I think this actually may have been harmful physically and psychologically.

Moving the topic away from Koola King, and apologies if this has been discussed already, but what do you think of Alina's position in this upcoming season?

She'll be facing a huge amount of pressure, both from above (crazy Eteri wanting to use her to 'hurt' Brian) and below (amazing juniors doing quads right in her face on a daily basis). Plus, there is the weight of the OGM. Plus, she'll miss Zhenya.

I'm not a fan of her skating but I felt sorry for the girl when she bombed at Worlds, because she clearly felt the pressure.

How do you think is it going to be now?

crazy eteri wanting to use her? certainly, we don't think like that, you probably posting in the wrong thread. and that's not "moving topic away from koola king" actually, it's an attempt to discuss some of his/her fairy tales

Very difficult to say. It is not known in what form it will enter the new season, how will puberty. She is unlikely to complicate the program, as it will require stability to obtain quotas for the team. I think the technique Trusova, Kostornaya, Shcherbakova will be stronger than her, but really they can only meet in the championship of Russia (senior), which allow the age of 14.

i'm most pleased about this situation, because it turned out that my girl sasha is a new favorite child of mama eteri.
how wonderful to see them on a press conferences, and now they even went on vacation together.
no one of you believed im my baby. i was the only crazy fan of sasha 2 years ago, everyone else were saying that this girl is useless, shcherbakova is so much better, she has artistry, she has real quads etc.
and look at sasha now. she is a little queen of figure skating world under the wing of mama eteri herself, her most precious treasure. hopefully she gets the best programs this season:love:

CSKA and Sambo... Not sure. Both have quite a lot of different sports, with FS being just a small part of it. I suppose there is some rivalry between both clubs, but I don't think it is relevant for FS.
But I mean the other fs coaches from Sambo, like Tsareva for instance. I wonder, if they stick together.

panova is not from sambo. she is from "snow leopards" club in a freaking city of reutov
