2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I think that Radionova always had unfortunate timing. Missing the Olympics by half a year - She could have been Lipnitskaya. Then the next season, she almost gets to start on a clean skate with a great opportunity to establish herself... And Tuktamysheva has her one single super season right then. The next season, Radionova also is in a great position and Tuktamysheva is now not having such a great season... And Radionova gets overtaken by Medvedeva during her debut season.

Still, I have to say that for all the criticism Eteri's "you skate to this music and that's that"-authoritarianism has received, Radionova really could have used some of that. I thought that her junior programs were fantastic and the 13-14 programs were alright, but then they just kept becoming worse and worse and worse and it all culminated on that atrocious Titanic program which to me is by far the worst program of the quad(Not counting the plain inappropriate ones like Lecavalier's). It was difficult to even take her seriously at that point and expectedly, her status didn't improve as might otherwise have been expected.

It's easy to forget that Radionova won the junior world championships twice in a row. No other lady's ever won the junior world championship twice.

Yes, that‘s what I think, too. She was just unlucky. And I actually don‘t mind Eteri‘s authorianism that much. 16 year old skaters, they don‘t know yet who they are and what they want to portray. They need time to grow and in the meantime, let the coaches decide. Or else they will choose Titanic like cheesy programs. Which isn‘t to criticize them, they‘re young, that‘s okay they might like things like that. But you need to appeal to the audience and the judges, too.

I know, I always forget about junior championships once a skater has been senior for a while!🤦🏻*♀️ But it‘s really amazing what she did there, that‘s probably why people expect(ed) so much from her!

@hanca: Wow  Yes, I am her fan. And no, a bronze medal isn‘t bad, I never said that. But yet, a few years ago people talked of her as if she was going to be the Olympic Champion. I‘m just worried about her because she has had growth issues and we all know pretty well how fast you get ruled out in Russia. I was just asking from those who might have seen her at shows how her jumps look like, whether she can get back to her old form or not. Because, yes, I really wish for her to do that. But I just don‘t know whether it will be possible. And just saying, in any other country placing 3rd and 4th at the GP wouldn‘t be bad. But in Russia with so many new young skaters turning up every year? Maybe disappeared was the wrong word. I just remember that a few years ago she battled with Zhenya for Golds so to me it seemed like that. Sorry if it offended anyone...

Well, it’s not the Russian federation who decides how well she will skate in the autumn. She did well enough to get two events. Alright, she is not on the main team and that affects her funding, but she will get her two events and she will have a chance to prove herself. The rest depend on her. And I am not sure how you can call yourself her fan if you stopped believing in her after one bad competition. So she wasn’t sent to worlds and Olympics, so what? There is so many senior Russian ladies and only three spots. She did mess up at the nationals. Does it make her worse skater than Tsurskaya or Tuktamysheva? I don’t think so.

Well, considering the fact that in 2015 ago she won a Silver at Europeans and a bronze at Worlds and the season after that another Silver at Europeans, comparing it to now, yes, she has disappeared. From major competitions. Not making the team does mean exactly that.
Well, not making the team is not disapperaing, it is just not making the team. Disappearing is what Sotnikova did.

About jumps, Radionova does 3S in shows. It is rotated and landed well, she doesn't seem to drop her torso on the landings. Video here from June 9'th, Denis and Friends show.

I think those jump landings have improved. Have they?

Sambo 70. The orange.
Is this just the current color, or is it traditional?
I think the former, but if the latter, why?

I was not excited with her new EX either, and also didnt get why people are so OMG MY GOD about it.
My guess is that people were more axcited about the coach change than the actual ex.

The European ex was indeed better, and probably one of her best galas (tbh most of her galas were kinda meh, compared to some other skaters, except maybe for the Euros ex and the Sailor Moon ex)

Because she was back, jumping not only in her programs for the first time since the Olympics but also jumping into a new phase of her career, and it was an emotional program that she created by herself, her first attempt to spread her wings and fly on her own. That's why.

Could you stop being so aggressive here? I‘ve said it: I can only speak for myself. But if a skater I like messes up a competition, I‘m worried for them. Maybe you‘re different, that‘s great, really but it does not mean that I have lost faith in her. Or that she‘s worse than Liza or Polina. Where did you get that from? I see it we’ve different opinions on what it means to be a fan. But that‘s okay, lets just talk about something else. ;)

Yeah, I‘m sorry, disappearing was not the right word, I guess.

Thank you for the link and that‘s great to hear! The 3S really looks better, the landing‘s a bit smother. :)

Yeah, I‘m sorry, disappearing was not the right word, I guess.

Fluture it looks like you fell in the accusation trap that I was describing...

Look yoloaxel, personally I like your comments even if I don't agree sometimes. But I will give an example of how can someone accuse you as a hater.

Why complete? Is she retarded and has complete lack of connection to the music? Why do you hate her so much?

Of course, I know you didn't mean like that. But if I was some weird Liza fun, I could have said it to you.

I can‘t decide whether I should laugh or cry right now reading this. I guess both, lol. :confused2:

As I wrote in my post, "My guess is that people were more axcited about the coach change than the actual ex.", nothing to do with the actual exhibition.

comparison of the results of the national Junior Championships 2018 - Russia (6 of 18 from Tutberidze Team), USA, Canada - http://images.vfl.ru/ii/1528889784/a06ab103/22099405.png

I'm confused, I thought Alysa Liu was from the US. I don't think any of the Canadian fans think that there's any crazy promising Junior ladies that are going to burst out onto the scene ASAP. I think that the US and CAN flags got mixed up.

You are correct, Alysa is American
But also, US junior nationals didn’t have the most lenient judging compared to others...
