2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

French gate for EM is not easy - Kihira, Mihara & Tennell are able to stop her. Especially Tennell. She doesn't post food, drink, or walk around. She plows in the truest sense of the word.

EM won't survive Canada. Will be trampled by all : Tuktik, Gabriellka, Higuchi, Yamashita, Tursynbayeva, Panenkova.

Ok so let's analyse it.

Kihira - if she is clean she is powerful with her 2 3As. But she is rarely clean at events that matters and she has problem with nerves. The cleanest she got was JapNats while her international events weren't as smooth as some people expected.

Mihara - more reliable than Kihira with stable international results. Definitely podium contender especially as she has clean lutz. But is she gold medal contender? Definitely more than Rika.

Tennell - if it was SA I'd be worried but it isn't SA. Also Bradie has problems with her short programs.

Time for Skate Chanada.

Tuktamysheva - Liza seems unable to skate two good programs at the same comp. If she has great sp she ends far in LP and if her long is good it's a sign she screw her short. She was 7th at the last RusNats, 8th two years ago and didn't medal at nationals since 2015-16 season. I can hardly imagine her crushing Med.

Gabrielle - never won against Zhenya and the only international event she medaled last season was Team Event at Olys. I doubt Chandian inflation will give her extra 30 points needed to endanger Med.

Higuchi - after last Worlds I can see her being bigger danger when she delivers than Tuk or Daleman. Two lutzes in SP are big point collectors and she has great axel. On the other hand she has lip and tends to make more mistakes after the first one.

Yamashita - I can't see her being any danger to Evgenia TBH. It's her first senior season, she medaled as junior but no golden strike and she doesn't have 3A or quad.

Tursynbaeva - unless she has stable 4S and doesn't make any mistake I don't see her even as podium contender

Panenkova - stable and consistency of Eteri's school but with bland programs which don't make her a favourite in judges' eyes. Even clean doesn't get a lot of points.

I can see surviving both France and Canada with pretty good result

Of course Elena Radionova did better last season, 3rd at CoC 4th at CoR and these were the hardest GP events, 1st in shanghai against Maria

I think the second GP for Daria Panenkova was not necessary, they could give it to Gubanova.

Daria's in the SB list, Gubanova's not in anything. Daria's earned her spots.

At JWC Yamashita showed that there is no FS authority for her. She skated after Trusova and fought for the silver! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6wveM9Pn8A

Moreover, she showed the ability to dramatically increase the result - from FS 116.55 to 128.38 points! This was done at the official ISU competitions.

What a cute reaction to her scores! I quite enjoyed watching her skate, too. Lovely skater. :)

However, she‘s a junior skater who will only turn senior this season. Her PCS will never be near the likes of other skaters at this event namely Medvedeva, Daleman and Higuchi. She needs to build a reputation for herself first.

Tarusina? No, she won Elder Age and will probably get a JGP or two
Gulyakova, Nugumanova, and Mikhailova? Probably not quite yet, might do challengers
The others? Yeah, probably

Also, if no one pulls out of GPs, we’ve got an initial startup of the nationals list:
Medvedeva
Zagitova
Tsurskaya
Sotskova
Panenkova
Konstantinova
Radionova
Tuktamysheva
Samodurova
+ one mystery lady

:sad21:Pogo and Gubanova don't have spots ... I don't understand why because I don't think: elena radionova, konstantinova, samodurova, tuktamysheva did better last season to get spots

But I'm happy for Daria Panenkova ( i like the underdog)

I hope Pogo can get the rostecolm host spot ... and Gubanova can get Finland Host spot ... I girl can dream

Everyone did better that Pogorilaya last season. She only had one competition and it was a disaster. Sadly she didnt get any points to guarantee at least 1 event.

As for Gubanova. A shame of unfortunate international assignments but she also didnt make any lists last year . Host pick is her only hope.

I don't understand why Samodurova has a GP.

The Mishin lobbying.

After all the guaranteed skaters from Worlds and the SB/WS lists are assigned , its up to the feds to fill the remaining spots with whoever they want from the Top 75 SB and they usually pick lower ranked skaters to not threat their own (just look at RUS going waaay down the list for many cases). It worked for Samodurova so great for her.

Any skater who was able to reach 195 points mark is a good skater especially if this mark was reached at junior competition. Mako has good overall skills and impressive jumps. Also seems her coaches still do not find a special style for her.

Gubanova can’t stay in junior again!! Please don’t make this happen! I want her as a senior... And did the JGP get out today, too? Because I really want to know what’s up with Tarakanova. And especially who’s skating at the one in Austria because if any Russian lady’s there, I’ll get myself some tickets!

Don‘t forget about Masha/Elena/Liza! Let‘s make this an all Russian finale! ( + Kostner!)

JGP entries get published about a month before each event.

:scratch2:
Must mean a different "EM".... (Eli Manning? Eddie Munster?)

RusFed was completely fair. I'm surprised.

Guaranteed 2 spots via top 12 WC – Zagitova, Sotskova
Guaranteed 1 spot via top 24 SB, but in practice 2 due to number of spots to fill – Medvedeva, Tsurskaya, Radionova, Konstantinova, Tuktamysheva, Panenkova
1 spot via SB #29 Sofia SAMODUROVA
Host Pick 1 spot - Might be Pogorilaya/Gubanova/Samodurova/Sakhanovich or someone like Mihhailova :sarcasm:
18

The total amount of 195:mad:points is Ladies grandmaster. Another:coffee:question - this season the average score of:bow:Tutberidze:love:girls is:hap93:220+.

I would say Mishin lobbying and Rusfed trying to send a skater or two from each coach (somehow they seem to do a lot of this, see never sending 3 Eteri girls anywhere)

For Medvedeva and Zagitova the key thing was to not face each other before GPF. And they won't. I am sure they will not go to the same B events either. Then it will be just indirect competition. But the scores will matter. If one of them continuosly has 5+ point margin it will determine who will win the face-off if both are clean.

As for GP assignments, in general, the winner is Satoko who won't face Zagitova and Medvedeva and should have a very safe way to the final.

In the USA Radionova, Samodurova, and Tsurskaya will have serious pressure from Tennel and the Japanese. I could see Tsurskaya getting the podium if she is clean. But at this stage her shape after she left Eteri is a mystery.

In Canada it will be interesting to look at Liza Tuktamysheva. There was a good PR that she came to her senses and finally is ready to storm podiums with new programs and 3As. If it is true she might become a podium factor. Although the competition: Wakaba and Daleman might be very strong. There will be Daria's senior debut - I don't expect much from her at this stage. There will be Lizbet's GP debut with Eteri and Medvedeva's with Orser. It will be interesting to compare their relative progress. All in all, it should be a dramatic competition.

In Finland Daria will go right after Canada - might be a jet lag issue. If she shines at her first competition she might get a podium because other than Zagitova and Sakamoto she will face Caro who might be not at the top form at the beginning of the season. Stasya....I don't know. She keeps getting new chances, may be she will finally start to deliver?

In Japan we shall see once again Liza and Elena - two main rivals in 2015. If they knocked everyone down at their first stage like Liza jumped 2 3As with ease, they might put pressure on host skaters first of all Satoko. If they struggled, then I believe more in Maria Sotskova.

In Russia Tsurskaya against Wakaba should be exciting. Also the host pick might add fun if the Fed brings Anna P and she is in good shape. Then she might try to fight for podium taking the GPF points from other contenders.

In France outside Medvedeva who should not have problems winning it looks like a serios competition with several contenders. Then Maria will have to concentrate her resources: Bradie, Caro and 3 Japanese - that's a powerful list.

I think GP ladies will be exciting and unpredictable to make it hard for prediction game participants.
