2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Well, last year it was pretty obvious that Buyanova invested all in Sotskova.
My guess is that it will be the same. All resources, both coach attention and politiking will go to Maria.
If Sotskova keeps falling and getting URs, it shouldn't happen again. Buyanova knows it. Two seasons of non-podium EC and WC finishes are enough of a reason to not give Sotskova any preferences.

Radionova did pretty awfully at nationals this year and she’s regressing so why should she get support over others who aren’t?
but she's not bombing like falling all over the ice, she did doubled some triples and not having actual 3-3 (only lo-3S). Well jumping never been her forte though. She always have not so good landing most of the time. If she can improve it nice, if not then her teammate will be abover her deservedly

Tbh people fall in and out of love with their favorite skaters all the time, it’s nothing strange or wrong - as long as they don’t insult the skater, ofc. As long as there is respect it’s all good! I used to really dislike Caro and now I really like her despite her technical issues, and the opposite happened for Ashley Wagner, I used to love her and now not so much, but I still respect her and wish her the best 🤷🏻*♀️
It's not about falling in or out of love.
I never loved Evgenia's skating, same with Caro and Ashley, but I've always respected them as a great, longevous skaters and good ambassadors of the sport. Heck, I respected Evgenia even more when she advocated for Russian athletes before IOC, I was praising her on this very forum!
But the way she conducted herself through the last months, I've lost big chunk of my respect to her as an athlete and a human.
I still consider her very, if not the most successful skater these days though.

I wasn’t responding directly to you, and I understand that this is your POV and tbh if you respect her or not it’s your business and you should be free to feel however you like about her and others. The point I was making was a general one that we should be respectful to every skater regardless of our like/dislike and keep conversations civil (not aimed at anyone in particular on either side of the debate). I just think that there is a vicious cycle in this thread of people making unnecessary negative remarks that are often OT, and other people rushing here to defend their favorite skater also taking it way too far. Aaaand it’s kinda boring tbh :P

CSKA could go all in for Polina this year. Maria has been semi-reliable, but can never stand out at events like Olympics and Worlds.

I don't think we'll see Elena at GPF or Worlds ever again, though she'll win GP medals here and there when others falter.

Wow!

Alina getting Rostelekom is big. It's clear indicator she became feds number one now.

I don't think so. I think both in Russia and worldwide everyone made it clear that Alina was a mistake and shall not be repeated again.

I think Evgenia still gets number one support from fed and co. If Alina continues to beat her then maybe they will reconsider, but that will be very difficult.

Mistake in which way? Mistake as in supporting her when Evgenia was out due to injury? Mistake as in sending her to Worlds after OG? Sorry, I‘m just curious and probably aren‘t getting your point at the moment.

I‘m not sure whether I can agree with you on the second part, though. Alina is the reigning Olympic Champion, they should at least be supported equally. Also, is it does seem to me that Alina got the somewhat „easier“ GP assignments. And there‘s the fact that she‘s getting Rostelekom. So, overall, I don‘t think she‘s considered as a mistake and rightfully not so. But I‘d be interested to hear why you think that way! :)

So, home support for Olympic queen. Nice 👍
I don’t like Yuzu’s presence there tbh. Japanese will probably buy all tickets in seconds?

...boring and putting people off of coming here to discuss.

Dear people, please do not forget: you are speaking here about real persons with real feelings. Just because they are known persons doesn't give anyone the right to be hateful /derogatory /nasty about them. There are loads of people we don't like, if we will keep being negative and nasty toward them , just because they don't fulfill our standards, our world will be increasingly more stressfull and nasty to us all.
Please think about if your negativity is real necessary to be expressed in such a public way. Self censorship and more civility should not be so underrated just because we are anonym to each other.
Please also think that the skaters we are talking here are very oft under-aged or very young impressionable persons. You wouldn't do it to your child. Don't do it then also to a skater if you really love the sport.

Sorry for off topic, but the nastiness i see here on this forum bothers me (and even i choose to ignore some members, i see their post in replays).

Firstly, Evgenia is 18, not a child.
Secondly, there is no nastiness in this thread at all, just honesty and straight-forwardness of all participants.
Thirdly, what bothers me more than lack of sweetness in the forum is top athlete in the sport setting bad example for next generations in regard to fair competition against her greatest rival.

You are choosing to believe Eteri when she has continually lied about skaters who have left her. That's your problem.

We are not being nasty. We are honestly discussing skaters.
There is not a single perfect skater ever, and I do not see why we can discuss them, in both positive and negative ways. Zhenya is not money for everybody to like her.

If you guys want all swoon and sweet, go to fanfests, and please stop calling honest and fair critique "hate".

That's bold statement. Borderline defamatory.

Eteri is not cute enough to deserve unconditional love.

For me, the main reason that i believe what Eteri said about Zhenya is that, based on Zhenya's recent interviews and quite a few of her actions over the last 2 seasons, that does not sound implausible.

You seem to have strong morals. However, what surprises me is that you’re very quick to judge. Tell me, were you with Evgenia and Eteri when it happened ? Do you know all the details ? You have one side of the story, not both. You’re always saying « we’re discussing skaters without anything behind it », but even if I weren’t a Zhenya fan, it would be so hard to believe because as a matter of fact you’re taking Eteri’s side of the story for the absolute truth, you are not neutral.
Also, you really are talking about fair competition (you’re not even fair to Evgenia, ironic) ? According to Eteri (key word is according) she made this comment after her results, heartbroken. She didn’t try to keep Alina from competing.
Also, I see someone saying « based on a few interviews and her actions »... Interesting. Then we should take into account Zhenya’s previous behavior (?) but not Eteri’s (always blaming her students leaving her, saying they are like products of her factory, breaking the privacy of her ex student for the purpose of ruining her reputation, which she seems to be good at).
It’s just so tiring seeing the same topic being discussed again and again when you just want to forget about this story. Honestly, just move on guys, we have so many skaters to talk about. I’m just gonne ignore those posts from now on (for Zhenya’s fans : they’re not gonna stop so let’s ignore 💕).

If Eteri was lying about this situation (about Alina), why Zhenya did not refute? It's nothing shameful about this. And she just could refer to Dudakov and Daniel - they were all the time beside her after leaving the ice and in KiK. They must heard everything. Here:

She could just say - "ask them" when she answered the journalists' question about this situation.
By the way, on 55.36 Zhenya says to Eteri: "(now you have) Olympic champion, I congratulate you" with sarcastic intonations. Eteri's face became alarmed. Between them begin the altercation. I think that Zhenya did not have a sporting attitude - she began to perceive herself as a star.
