2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Her best option is to compete in a late Challenger with usual generous scoring (Tallin Trophy seems good choice) and score well in hope to stay in the top 24 SB by the end of the season and sneaking onto the GP next year.

That’s why I wanted her to go senior...JGP is just an unnecessary risk IMO with little shot of reward. Getting that SB in the top 24 is crucial!! The only positive thing I see so far is that her biggest problem was crappy home scoring. She’s been rock solid at National comps...far better than some of the current seniors competing this year. At least now she’ll have better home backing. We’ve seen how that can pay off...not going to mention any names.

You’re probably right even if I find Anastasiia far more dynamic with equal skill in terms of basic skating. Her presentation last year was much more emotional IMO and had more depth than Alena but I’m going to imagine that would change with Alena using a program like R&J.

Well, I was simply talking about PCS as judges score it... Kostornaya's PB PCS is significantly higher than Gubanova's and Gubanova had a very bad international season with low scores all over whereas Kostornaya scored extremely high, breaking old world records and also got jr worlds silver, with highest PCS of the competition.

Yes...it’s important to do well and get into the events where the judges are looking to give great scores. It’s too bad she couldn’t have gone to JWC and skated like she did at Russian Nationals. Arguably one of the toughest events in ladies skating ;) That would have solved this whole problem.

She could go the Loena Hendrickx road; competing in junior grand prix and then doing really well at worlds. Of course she needs to beat some senior Russian ladies, but that third spot hasn't been steady for a while. If she does well, she could get that spot.

I’d like to see Sima surprise us and steal it

I want the WC team to be Medvedeva, Zagitova, and Panenkova (or Tsurskaya) and the JWC team to be three of the 4A. How about you all?

That was wonderful. She just needs to work on her Presentation. Didn’t get the feeling like I did when I watched Kostner’s SP to that music.

Her approach is of course different, Costner interpreted it as mature woman, Daria tells the story of a young girl.

My ideal and wholly unrealistic team would be:
Seniors:
Zhenya
Sima
Daria

Juniors:
Nastia T
Nastia G
Anna T

(This is just based off of my favourite skaters and who I would like to see there the most and not necessarily who I think will actually be there)

My wish team for worlds?

1. Zhenya!!!
2. Alina!
3. And the third spot to Sima if I‘m allowed to be a bit unrealistic. (And to be absolutely irrational: A podium of 1) Zhenya 2) Alina 3) Sima... Yeah, I‘ll shut up with my desilusional thinking  ) Otherwise I‘d really love to see Polina.

Sima isn‘t at all likely, obviously, but Polina could very well be. If she‘s healthy and consistent... I‘m just a bit worried about her programs because I don‘t trust Buyanova in this department. (It‘s just my taste that I never seem to like her programs)

Junior:

1) Alena!!!
2) Anna!!
3) A. Tarakanova

Yes, I am aware of the fact that in no possible universe Trusova won‘t be in the JWC team. But that‘s just my wishlist because despite the quads, I simply enjoy watching others more. Alena has the grace and presumably the 3A, Anna the musicality and the quad and Anastasia... I simply like her for her fire and her energy. I don‘t know why since Sasha clearly has lots of that as well but her programs just make me feel more.

And writing this down, I realise again how insanely difficult is to choose only three of all these ladies. There are simply too much for one country. We have space enough in our Austrian team. Come to us, girls.

(Just kidding obviously)

lol I trust TAT's taste in choreography

That's kind of ironic. Unlike Evgenya Alina never openly praised Japan. But it seems like the Japanese love Alina more.

Pretty uncalled for. Evgenia is loved in Japan and treated like a celebrity there. Alina wasn‘t all that well known before the Olympics but now she‘s picking up with the Masaru-story and now this. I‘m happy that she gets more attention and she deserves it but to say Japanese love her more ?? How can we even compare this? I‘d say they‘re both loved in Japan for both are beautiful, talented, smart and humble young women.

On another note, is Shiseido Alina‘s only sponsor (it‘s a pretty big one, though). I remember that advertisement she did for a bank, are they sponsoring her, too? Evgenia has Pantene, Nike and John Wilson which are pretty big brands so I‘m really glad Alina now, too gets some attention. :luv17:
