2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Nah, next season Raf is gonna take over Eteri's evil coach role by pitting Eunsoo and Marin against each other. He doesn't seem to know how to watch his mouth tbh. He might start a new korea vs japan war if he's not careful
Sorry for that off topic

Do we have anything about polina's season? programs music, who's creating choreos for her? she's such a good jumper with beautiful skating too. I want to see her shine the brightest she ever has this season :luv17:

Evgenia is loved in Japan and treated like a celebrity there. Alina wasn‘t all that well known before the Olympics but now she‘s picking up with the Masaru-story and now this. I‘m happy that she gets more attention and she deserves it but to say Japanese love her more ?? How can we even compare this? I‘d say they‘re both loved in Japan for both are beautiful, talented, smart and humble young women.

Well, that was just my biased opinion. And another ironic thing is that 3 seasons ago I got too emotional sometimes responding to dozens of threads about various "Evgenya's issues". 2 seasons ago it was not as heated - the mood became "I am not Medvedeva's hater....but". Something tells me that this season there will be no need to defend Zhenya on GS at all. A miracle :):scratch2:

With all you see (especially in this thread) you think there’s no need to defend her? To be frank, it’s more toxic than ever now, worse than any of the repetitive prerotation or miming complaints.

But it's very different now. There have been toxic spills from sports.ru coming here. Of course, nothing is black and white but if we are getting to the gist my view is that previously the core of negativity could be summarized like: "a Russian girl who is way behind the "queens" from the recent past, who has bad prerotated muscled jumps and multiple other issues gets undeserved scores". I think this choir will die down. The new wave is unfortunately fueled by my contry mates who cannot forgive her moving to Canada and who are fans of Alina. And those ones can be very toxic and nasty - I remember Yulia vs. Adelina times. But I see that aggressive Russian users are easily banned here unlike more sophisticated other ones. So that I am sure that Zhenya will be fine.

Well, that‘s okay, I guess. I just don‘t like it when people claim she only “made up“ her admiration for Japan and their culture to get more fans or something like that and compare that to Alina who ”hasn‘t done that“. In fact, if you have a twisted logic like that, she has. Her love for Masaru, which is of one of Japan‘s most traditional dog breeds? If you think like this, it’s kind of the same. But it doesn‘t matter anyway. Alina did not make up her love for Akita Inus just like Evgenia didn‘t when she was gushing over anime like sailor moon. They‘re both young girls and there‘s no need for them to fake anything. And if Alina gets some time in the spotlight, I‘m really delighted for her because she deserves is. She has been in the shadow of Evgenia this season (understandably so as Zhenya was around longer) but now she‘s finally getting the attention she deserves and I‘m happy for her. Just like I was happy for Zhenya when she got the sponsoring of Pantene, or the John Wilson Blades. I know both girls have got their share of hate and excessive nitpicking over the past years and frankly, I‘m sad about it. We‘re all figure skating fans, so why can‘t we just appreciate that they are all hard-working athletes and deserve everything they achieve? You don‘t have to like every skater or their skating but maybe let us try to see the human behind the routine. That makes it easier to accept a victory of an athlete you find “overscored“ or not deserving to win. Take Adelina as an example. I never thought she should have won in Sochi. But she did and when her scores came up you could see her genuine joy and surprise. And while I was sad that Yuna lost and yes, I‘m not going to deny that, incredibly angry at the judges, I simply could not be angry at this 17-year old girl who had done nothing but her best and was celebrating the biggest success in her life. So, yeah, I know things won‘t suddenly change in here because I‘m holding a speech about world peace in figure skating but one can hope, right?

And now, end of the kitsch. I‘m sorry but I just felt that I had to say that because it has bothered me for a while now. :)

I've seen quite the remarkable number of people using that argument and i really can't understand how people come out with such stupid things lol as if anime and kpop isn't super popular (yes even in Russia), as if it's completely surreal for a teenager to be a fan of anime and kpop :eeking: why would she have to pretend to like it to gain fans? It's so dumb :laugh2: but after a decade in the skating fandom, i've heard all kinds of dumb things :palmf:

I was watching Polina's Lights of the Seven SP just yesterday. That was beautiful. i hope she can come out with beautiful programs like this again. I hope she's healthy before anything and in good hands. We should hear news about the junior tests skates results soon i guess. I'm super curious to hear about it even without videos. Especially for Anna since she's the one i'm the most curious about this season.

I don't think junior test skates are until August 4-7, but I'm excited to hear about pairs, which is right now :)

Do they think she's just a blank slate without any interests or do they think she's secretly into something very uncool like schlager music? I don't know, it's almost as stupid as deciding Japan "loves Alina more" because a makeup company gave her a contract. Alina is the OGM, of course she's going to get sponsors. Evgenia has lots of sponsors too.

This is still a sport btw, not a popularity contest.

Since she is the leading junior i think it worth to post it here as well. Some interesting interviews with Trusova and her parents.

I love that Toeloop gets translated as “sheepskin coat“

“I'm getting ready for this. And if I do everything correctly technically, warm up, jam, train, why should I be injured? If this is the case, then you do not need to try anything new, because everything new is difficult.“

She is a very clever young lady. Yet, she‘s also a child which you can clearly see. How enthusiastic she talks about Harry Potter, Disneyland and Avatar! I love that. She might be a world champion and very focused on her work but she‘s not grown up immediately because of this. She still enjoys those things with an enthusiasm and curiosity only children have. Good luck to you next season, Sasha! Stay healthy and happy! :cheer:
