2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

??? Alina is at the most 163cm now, while Polina is at least 175 :p

Has someone actually measured Alina new height? :pShe probably isn't as tall as Polina yet but I wouldn't be surprised if she will be soon. She's grown a lot in just 6 months. Hopefully won't affect her jumps.

There is no way. Look at her parents. There is no way she will be any taller than 165-166. She is already 16. During last season she was somewhere around 156-159, and seemed like added about 3cm during the summer. So she is at the most 162-163 now - look at her pictures with Nathan and Marin.

One thing for sure is Alina's program really doesn't look like a Medvedeva-styled-program like some people were saying a few days ago
It's still very fast-paced just like her programs already were last season. But with a touch of "we don't know what your style is yet so we're gonna try this" that Daniil added  in my opinion

To me it does look very much like Evgenia's programs. The way the music is cut, the kind of face expression it requires, some "acting". They are very different personalities, and while Alina's is technically better, Evgenia was more polished with her movements and choreo.

I don't see Evgenia's programs there at all. Even the similar gestures have an entirely different feeling to them. I watched this through 3 times and just don't see Evgenia anywhere.

Evgenia didn't coin "facial expressions" or "acting". Those are basic elements of figure skating.

On the program itself, I enjoyed some parts and disliked some others. The music cuts and transitions are rather cheesy. Good to see her upping her transition game though. The entries to the Flip and Axel are both interesting. Evgenia for instance has kept the same, simple Flip entry for her entire career.

Apart from the ending with her hands movements that could remind of zhenya's pantomime, the rest of the program has no similarities with zhenya's particular style in my opinion.

I wonder what direction they've taken with her Carmen. I don't know what to expect at all

Alina's interpretation skills and posture really improved a lot. Her skating changes with every different music parts.
They're trying something different for her. i like it.
and the program itself quite unique.

I agree with everything already previously discussed, but I wish she would change up her spin variations. Especially the final spin that she used at the end of both her programs last year (although it’s lovely)

I still can’t believe Alina’s using POTO. Between that and Anna’s Rondo Capriccioso I’m going to be a very musically frazzled Panda this season.

I’m afraid to see which Carmen Alina is using. I’d give anything for it to be this one. :luv17:

I cannot believe i'm finally seeing you being a bit negative :laugh2: you're always the bundle of positivity in the thread. I'm okay with Rondo Capriccioso personally and Anna's program seems to be beautifully made so i'm excited to see that in competition (with hopefully a successful 4lz :hap10: )
This one you posted is one of the carmen cuts i don't hate xD! but it seems, from the teaser that was posted on Daniil's IG they're using this instead  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCrKncOpE7Q well, the FS is about 4minutes long, we'll see!

She skates beautifully but I agree Alina’s program feels disjointed. I wonder if they had originally planned to backload and when that was no longer rewarded they reconfigured the program. And the music cuts don’t really fit anymore.

I don't like that Alina's SP music is so choppy, with the sound effects it feels a bit like a "POTO in under 2 mins" montage. How is she meant to draw out the emotions and the character of the music if it keeps changing every 5 seconds? Hope they can smooth it out a bit, because otherwise it doesn't matter how much Alina tries to interpret it, it'll always be odd.
I am happy that my initial fears were unfounded; it doesn't look like a Evgenia program to me. Alina actually reminded me a bit of Anna Pogorilaya. But it's definitely still a work in progress.

I agree. My biggest problem with Alina skating to POTO wasn't even that it is POTO, but that it is a SP! I feel like Phantom of the Opera should always be a FS so you can really tell a story and have more depth in the interpretation.
With that said, Alina does a wonderful job with interpreting the music, her expression is on point! The rest is fault of the choreographer. I think this is not her best program and it is not an up from her Black Swan+Moonlight.
But maybe it will grown on me throughout the season.
And she really is skating to Carmen, right? Can't wait to see that!
I actually like warhorses because people complain so much and compare so much, it makes the figure skating fandom so much more fun...

I watched a little bit of 5th element last night. What a strange freak show of a movie in a completely entertaining way  Now I’m eagerly awaiting to see what Sasha will give us.

I see your point and i actually agree with you now. POTO as a SP is a weird choice  they should have gone for a Carmen SP instead. Hopefully she'll whip out a fantastic Carmen and shut us all up (although i've never actually been in awe with a Carmen program before). Any of you guys has a favorite Carmen?

My favorite Carmen is Katarina Witt.
After seeing POTO, I could only hope that Alina's Carmen music cut is not fragmented.
