2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

With the same name and birth date? I guess that's possible ... Technically ... That there's a figure skater with the same name and birth date. Somehow, it seems somewhat unlikely to me, though.

The same name, date of birth and appearance ;) as she's in the photo of the Polish team, together with Natalia Kaliszek and Maxim Spodyriev (and less known Oliwia Rzepiel with whom she will be competing for the spot in international competitions).
Natalia and Maxim very probably will be her rink mates.
Katia (let's say Kasia as that's the name in Polish) last time competed internationally in January 2017, so I believe she's eligible to represent Poland as soon as Europeans 2019.

That's rather clever of her. Much better to realise early her chances are very small in Russia and switch countries than try, try and try to the point she's no longer at her peak. I wish her all the best. Maybe another skater will get inspired and switch to Brazil?

Kasia Kurakowa do boju! :biggrin::agree:

Kurakova is going from a state of the art facility at the CSKA club to a more primitive setup in Poland. Will she be able to maintain her wonderful skating abilities in a place where she no longer has access to free ice time and great coaches? If she can overcome the financial constraints of no longer being supported by the Russian Fed, I too can see her being a longtime fixture at the Grand Prix and World competions.:luv17:

It's also possible that - being affiliated to the Polish club - she will still train at CSKA, possibly under the same coach. Just like Igor Reznichenko.

I’m late to the party, so who is this Kurakova Polish girl? Another gifted skater in the already packed Russian field ? Will we see her on the jgp this year, aiming to get Poland in the Final? Cool! Any recent video ?

She can't compete on the JGP because of the country switch. She's old enough to be a senior though (24.6.2002) and could be at Euros and Worlds. We were hoping to see her get the Rostelecom host spot but Mikhailova got it instead.

When was that announced? Well, good for mikhailova. sorry to whoever else was in line to get the host spot. Wonder what music she has this season.

I think they meant last years spot.

I’m hoping Serafima gets the spot this year, but I’m betting it goes to Sofia

Yes, I meant last year, sorry
I think this year has three frontrunners: Sofia, if she does well at SA, Pogorilaya, if she's ready to return and in good form, and Serafima.

I think she may be able to. Her last international competition was in January 2017, so if the sit out period is one year, she is already able to as long as the Russian federation releases her.

Oh, it's from last international competition! Then yeah, you're right -- for some reason I was thinking last competition, regardless of domestic or international. Finland still has one TBD spot -- it's probably too much to hope that she gets it, though :(

My guess would be that Finland choses one of their two top ladies (Viveca Lindfors and Emmi Peltonen) for the host pick at the Finish GP. I do however think that there are other skaters out there (russians and japanese mainly) who are better skaters and would deserve it more.
