Gotcha! For not knowing Russian you really do your homework about the Russian skaters. You know about all of the local competitions and where to find entries and scores. There are many more local competitions in Russia than the US. I am still learning this system and not knowing the language sometimes makes it difficult for me because I have a hard time searching for the information. I did take some Russian in college and that helps me a lot so I can read things like names without needing translation and understand some simple things. I think this is one of the reasons I am so interested in Russian skaters (well besides that the ladies are soooooo good
) Russian is a beautiful language and a culture of beautiful people. Just wish I could understand a little bit more so I could enjoy all of the interviews and find out more about local events in Russia.

Good luck to her! When Anna's on she can deliver big time. A great performer.
Never thought Yulia was particularly musically inclined. She skated through the music. Ppl just got taken in by the packaging of the Schindler's List program.

I think Eteri's team has learned to package younger skaters a little bit better, with Kill Bill/Fifth Element for 14 year old Trusova vs. 14 year old Lipnitskaia Sabre Dance/Nutcracker. While I like Trusova's programs they seem to have a much easier defined attitude/musicality to the program than Lipnitskaia's.
Lipnitskaia at the end of her career definitely got better musically, I think her getting some time with different stylistic choreographers was what helped her. Which is why I hope next year we see a different choreographer for the free skates or short programs for Eteri's skaters; get some fresh perspective and help them grow in range.

Yulia had a musicality that wasn‘t very obvious. Her face always looked very calm, in fact so much that I often heard people state that she looked bored. However, personally, her performances always touched me. Because I thought that she was feeling the music whenever I was watching her. To me, it showed in her movements but not that much in her facial expression. As an introverted person myself, I get that it‘s not easy to openly show your feelings like that, to let them all out. So her quiet, more calm yet so determined way at skating was special to me. However, I do have to note that she got a lot better over the years and that the more classical pieces during her junior career didn‘t seem to fit her too well.

I wanted to add that artistry is a very subjective topic. So while some might not get Yulia‘s artistry but love Trusova‘s - for others it‘s the exact opposite. I like Sasha as a person and admire her guts but I don‘t feel anything other than fear when she‘s attempting the quads in her programs. And a lot of admiration when she lands them - but also when she falls heavily and stands up again to try again as if nothing happened. But her skating itself doesn‘t do anything for me. Whereas I don‘t see how anyone could say that Alena isn’t musical because she‘s the epitome of musicality to me. Anna as well. But that‘s just what I see. It‘s not what others have to see as well. That‘s why I think this whole artistry thing is difficult. But I do have to say that skating skills are something you can judge more easily.
Sasha does have very good SS but I feel like she‘s overshadowed by Nastya Tarakanova and Alena Kostornaya in this aspect. Nastya because she‘s REALLY fast (she literally does one crossover and is at the other site of the rink ) and Alena because she‘s fast and seems to have more flow while skating.

Tiny Boss is the best. I love how she just smiles through every word and threatens the world with quints at the exact same time. She’s like Yoda or something on that level.

Thank you so much to Dante for the translation! It was a fun fun clip to watch her in practice, holy cow, the speed and power of each crossover is really fun to watch. And I love to watch her jump. And jump and jump. Eteri is correct in everything she says, and I hope that once Sasha has the 4L ratified she drops it. It isn't worth the risk. I adore Trusova and her shy giggly personality. I love that she wants to get married and have a poodle.! (She and Steven Googlev would be a nice couple, no?). I know there is a huge contingent of people out there that think Eteri is abusive, but I think they are wrong. I think her stars are protected, nurtured and doted on, and I suspect they are given the best of the best that the coaching staff, doctors etc., have to give.
Yes, but more where one expects them .. In arts and culture and even cuisine.

But I'm always surprised when it's day to day words that are imported.

Me, too! For someone making history like she's been, she's so...humble. I mean, she's fiercely driven, but nevertheless incredibly - and authentically - sweet. Anna, too, though in a different way. I find Eteri to be intimidating, but at the end of the day, these girls would not be as wholesome as they are if there wasn't a nurturing side to her that she perhaps withholds from the cameras. (Although perhaps a majority of the credit for this is owed to Daniil and Sergei, who are endearing in how gently they handle these girls, almost as if they were their own daughters.)
