2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

even if Masha was a mess at JO, I still think it’s admirable that she can still jump 3-3s and be like 5’ 9” at the same time. If I remember correctly Masha is the tallest top skater as of right now. And she’s still growing!

Masha got into university, her priorities might slowly be changing. Which isn‘t a bad thing, she‘s had an awesome career many. Yes, she didn‘t medal at the big events like Worlds or Olympics but she was there to experience them, experience how it feels like to be an Olympic athlete which is something a lot of the Russian ladies can‘t get to do because they never even have the chance to make it out of Russia and on to the international stage. I don‘t think she‘ll retire just now and I also know it‘s silly to judge from one bad competition. I won‘t say she‘s done yet, she‘s done when she wants to be done. At the moment however, as I see it, we have a Zagitova who is eager to prove herself and win that Worlds title she lost last year, a Medvedeva who moved across the world to improve her skating and despite having made mistakes at her first competition seems determined to improve and a hungry Liza who is throwing those 3As out at every competition and is steadily improving her layout to her 2015 standard. Not saying that Masha can‘t make it - she most definitely can - but more that we have three girls/young women here who would do everything to get on to that team this year. And I‘m just a bit sceptical if Masha has the energy, time and wish to fight them off for that third spot this year. I‘m not making any assumptions just now - the season has just begun after all, that’s just how I see it. The last time I saw Liza like this was 2015 after the Olympic season and we all knew what happened then. (Not to say she‘ll win Worlds this year, if I had to bet, I‘d easily bet on Alina but more that she has the thrive and determination to fight for every medal she can get and make it on the major podiums)

Alena Kanysheva and Varvara Kurnosenko are assigned to junior ladies at the Volvo Open Cup. But Varvara is not age-eligible.

You need to get over this injury thing. It's not unique and it is not an amazing thing to come back from. Every single lady on the Olympic podium at Pyeongchang has broken their leg. One of them even had a serious injury at the time. And it is a chronic issue. Anna has skated cleanly a grand total of three times. That's the very definition of a chronic issue. And you can't use an old injury to excuse everything. Especially when what she is messing up are simple skils. There is no reason for her to be putting her hands down in the step sequence. And I'm sorry if you don't like that but trying to drag Sasha down to try and build up Anna is not going to change that fact. If you want to pick Sasha apart, fine, she too has more than her fair share of issues (pre-rotation). Alena has her issues as well (lutz). Go nuts. I will even go nuts with you. But at least be objective and have the integrity to admit where Anna's issues are as well. And for the love of all things holy don't do it to try and make the other look good. There are three medals at JGPF, they can all succeed.
It IS an amazing thing to come back from! Especially gaining a 4Lutz less than a year after getting injured is nothing short of amazing. And are you seriously comparing Medvedeva's injury to Anna's? She could skate clean through it on painkillers. Anna couldn't even walk.

Do you think I'm a Trusova hater and am putting her down or something? Because I said that I don't think she'll ever land a better 4Lutz? That's merely a prediction.

I think they mean Anna was the first to do two at once? I’m not sure. But we know it wasn’t meant maliciously because it was made by a big Sasha fan :)

Yes probably..That is good! The fans of them can be calm Anna-Sasha 1:1

I like both of them..they are amazing!

Can we all just agree to stop bashing Sasha to praise Anna, or bashing Anna to praise Sasha? It’s completely unneccessary when we could easily just...you know...praise one without being negative about the other. Every time someone does it, it invites even more hate on BOTH girls and it just ends up in pointless arguing.

At the end of the day they’re incredibly talented fourteen-year-olds who seem to be friends as much as they are rivals, and they don’t need to be hated on by their friends’ fans when they’re already receiving relentless bullying from, for example, Yuna fans on youtube.

I think the coolest thing would be if all three made the Olympic team. On any given day, one of the three shines-between Sasha and Anna and I'm adding Alyona. They are all three gifted skaters, much the way Yuna and Mao both were, back in the day. We are so lucky to have all three to oooo and ahhhh over. They have made the sport exciting for me again.

I almost forgot when Maria, Evgenia, Serafima and Sasha Proklova debut at JGP, Maria was my favorite, and Evgenia was the least of my favorite.

Maria had very good programs and Evgenia was slow and very boring. I cannot believe how much change took place during those years...

Two great ladies will catch your fall,
they are the ones who catch us all.
Their children kept them far apart;
the Lady Light, the Lady Dark.
Dark broken, light storm,
dead spoken, dreams torn...
and we will bring you home...

It's some special dance? Please, tell me about.

Oh yes, it's like a moment of celebration in the game.

Fortnite is supposed to be a survival game but it became famous more for these dances and graffiti

I'm surprised at first i didn't realize it was that dance.

On a different note, before the competition starts and can only be discussed in the comp threads, let's take a moment to review the amazing entry lists for the Memorial of N.A. Panin:

What a relief to see Alisa's name! Some idiot in one of the YT chats yesterday was claiming she was pregnant  Of course I know better than to take anything in those chats seriously, but just the fact that someone put it out there in the universe had my mind going through all kinds of "what-if" scenarios. Not nice.

After watching Polinas performance on russian cup i think she has a chance of being russian number 3!
The programs suits her and if her coaching team isn‘t extremely dumb they will sort out her level issues...

It is debatable, since the same coach has a series of skaters with jump issues: Sotskova URs and keeps URing. Radionova didn't show any improvement in jumps since she switched coaches.
So we are somewhat unsure if anything at all is being done or will even be done.

I feel like Sotskova became taller as well as Polina.

Alina Zagitova is smashing it. I see her winning the World Championships,

After watching her LP, I feel she regressed a lot. She just looks sloppy, and the choreography and music cut are both strange.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqoY4AkhPps
her starts at 6:44:45

Strange the cuts for her FS?Strange....I think that it's a matter of taste.Fans will never be all of them happy with music/choreography (are you a fan?just currious...).I love the cuts and how armonious the 3 songs are putted one next to another.
I don't see either that she regressed at choreograpy part.TAT nevet does mediocre programs. She needs to work more at the program.I see it like a work in progress now.
I don't expect that TAT works with her more to understand better the program or to level up her step sequences because she is implied in a lot of things...hm...but Nikita Mikhailov, the other choreographer ,should work with her for this part.
I remembered Trusova's interview from last season when she said that the choreographer is needed only at the beginning of the season when they learn the program.I think that it depends by the skater and the way she/he is feeling comfortable at training.
Polina is shy but aslo the kind of skater who needs to feel her team supporting her.
Sloply??I saw her scared, with health problens that coudn't permit her to make her elements, lacking confidence, but nit sloppy. She has a natural elegance and grace.
