2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I think Maria is a very intelligent young lady. She is never the center of the media, but being able to jump with her great height, make the decision to switch coach, and snatch the 3rd spot for the Olympics... We probably under estimated her.

She's definitely talented and she is still is a great skater, i'd argue that the coaching change didn't improve her much, besides maybe more mature programs, the rest is what she learnt previously from Panova, but at the same time that move helped her getting some reputation in Russia, without that Maria would have probably been treated like Pogorilaya (never a top contender for RusFed, always needing to skate clean for that last spot).

GATHER ROUND EVERYONE!! Volkov Memorial entries are out, and... we are in for a treat.
We've got Sofia Dzepka, Uliana Vasilieva, Alena Zhillina, and Veronika Zhillina. Plus others like Kogay and Rusak.
And then we've got Berestovskaya, Samodelkina, and Akatieva going up against Valieva, Usacheva, and Kromykh!

It will be on 8-10 November.
... Again you forgot Muravyova. :sad21:

Looking forward to Veronika Zhilina, Sofia Akatieva, Alena Zhilina, Sofia Muravyova the most, as I've not yet seen them this season. I'm also curious about the Pavlova duo.

But you're discussing a particular mistake from a skater's performance from a competition that is still going on right?

"Particular mistake". Well said. But for some skaters it is not a particular mistake, it is a common technic. But even if its mistake , why it is not called in protocals?
No. I dont talk about any skater competing right now or hasnt finished yet . I dont know even whats going now.

I can not even imagine what is two-footed jump. :confused2: I believe it should be something similar to ski jumping or diving. :scratch2:

Ahhh once I saw the ones I listed I stopped scrolling somehow

I wish more ladies did backflips, our two footed jump colection would be much bigger.
Is there any russian lady that ever did it?

Not all skaters do it that but most they do, i think it should be one of the things judges should look for the GOE. Kolyada also doesn't have the blade assist on the lutz, so it's not a russian thing either.
I think people may compensate for not having enough explosive power in their muscles by the blade assist. There are ladies without a blade assist too, so it's not as if only men with their strong legs could do it. GOE seems to be a reasonable way to reward skaters with proper toe jumps, especially considering that blade-assisted jumps are rarely as spectacular.

I don't think any Russian lady is gonna learn them, since they are not points gainers for ISU events. It's a stunt for professional skating and shows.

Anyways, I prefer backflips landed on one foot :D

Please don’t even joke about adding backflips. Gymnastics is dangerous enough without the possibility of hitting your head on ice if you miss/slip the landing. Its one thing if it’s done purely in a show by an adult who knows the risk, otherwise it should not be encouraged.

Random other question - how does one determine “full blade” versus pick? Like what percentage of the blade is “too much” to be considered blade assist? I don’t know the sport well but to me it doesn’t really matter if the main edge is correct? Or does this significantly change the jump?
