2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I don't think any Russian lady is gonna learn them, since they are not points gainers for ISU events. It's a stunt for professional skating and shows.

Anyways, I prefer backflips landed on one foot :D

Well, it could be a show number, same as several men do it.
(Ok, i just secretly want Sasha to have all the jumps)

Suria Bonalli made a backflip at her last official performance. She crashed a couple of times and had nothing to lose so decided to have everyone memorize.
As far as I understand any jump with horizontal axis not only pointless but actually forbidden.

Bobrin once did a sort of Arabic summersault.
Well, backflip is a great gala/show jump, audiences seem to love it.
I would consider learning it because of that

I can see sasha doing a backflip if she sets her mind to it. I can also see Eteri not letting her since you cant do them in competition and it would be considered an unnecissary risk.
The training of quads is obviously also a risk and Eteri lets them practice it but that is something that will pay off if they succed a backflip wouldnt get them anything exept perhaps a bit of extra publicity which I already think Eteris girls gets this with their quads quads, and all the medals.

Why would Sasha train a backflip? They are insanely difficult and dangerous and she would gain absolutely nothing from it other than the satisfaction of being able to land one. To please the audience during galas? Come on, she has her quads for that purpose, that‘s more than enough. She can‘t even land one in competition. Why risk her health and her competitive future for that? That would be more than crazy. So, backflips are a HUGE no for me. These girls are already pushing their bodies over the limits so much. And backflips are calling for an injury. And I’m sure Eteri wouldn’t allow it either.

I think training a backflip on ice is too dangerous for kids. When you're underage, practice off-ice on a safe surface. Once you're 18, go ahead and try it on ice and be as safe as possible.

Back flips are show tricks basically.

Several male skaters do them in exhibitions.

Among the ladies, the ones who have done it have almost all been former competitive gymnasts...Surya Bonali and Gabby Daleman among them.

A few smaller but important federations like France and Korea have pushed gymnastic-type Xtreme skating. I can't see Russia encouraging that.

In any event, I don't recall that Sasha competed seriously as a gymnast, which seems to be the prerequisite even if she just wishes to do it in exhibitions.

And while this is a clip of a non-Russian, I think those who think 'back flips would be cool' should see Gabby practicing with no less than two male world champions to spot her.

So JGPFinalists is
Trusova
Kostornaia
Sherbakova
Tarakanova
Kanysheva
Kim (korean)

5/6 russians this year as well.

Since Kanysheva won't be at senior nationals, hopefully Tarusina can still qualify through 2 Russian Cup senior events.

Congrats to Trusova on the first ladies' quad lutz! Interesting how the first men's quad lutz (Mroz) and the first ladies' quad lutz (Trusova) were kinda similar in that the landing was fought for and the skater almost touched down, but they hung on to make history.

If Trusova throws in the 4Ts back in and even the 4S at some point, she'll challenge Zagitova and distance herself even further than she already is. Hope she can maintain this, because so far she's on fire. :)
