2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

but so does everyone else. many skaters who did well or have quite few points in 16-17 season but not doing so well now will have the point erased, like Rika Hongo, Marin Honda, Laurine Lecavelier, Mirai Nagasu, Gabby Daleman, Karen Chen. Sotskova did well enough in 17-18 season, going into Olympic, GPF silver, placing in top 10 at WC.

Yep. I did a little calculation for the ladies (before Tallinn) about their WS points after 2016-17 is dropped. I made all their 2017-18 points 70%, then added the points they've earned so far this season. Of course lots of them will earn a lot more points soon, but I was mostly doing it to see how long skaters who aren't competing this season are going to end up. But anyways, Maria was 16th on that list - so she'd need 9 girls to pass her. There are some behind her who can do it, even some easily. But others would need a lot of points to pass her. So i think she's likely to stay. Not for sure, but likely.

I don't mean to stir up any more drama around this, but I don't remember Eteri alleging that Zhenya made that statement about Alina at the Olympics. I always understood it as Eteri alleging that Zhenya asked her to keep Alina in juniors just generally sometime last season.

"Прямо выйдя с олимпийского льда там была совершенно детская такая фраза сказана: «Неужели вы не могли удержать Алину еще один год в юниорах?»" (after Zhenya left the Olympic ice there was a completely childlike phrase said: "Why couldn't you keep Alina one more year in juniors?)

So, technically Zhenya is right, and Eteri is wrong.

My opinion: the conversation in K&C was a continuation of old conversations (I am sure that it was not the first time that Zhenya had reproached Eteri) in which this phrase sounded, and Eteri reported, if I may say so, "a compiled version". But this, of course, is unprovable.

Nothing would surprise me anymore when it comes to Sasha.

JGPF might not be so great for Sasha, she seems to be smack in the middle of a puberty growth spurt, including her feet, and from what I read, she is having difficulty finding boots that work, and other small issues. It was bound to happen, and better it happen this year rather than next year.

If she can land 4Lz-3Lo in the middle of a growth spurt, I‘m truly afraid of what will happen once she‘s gone through this. Quints?

No, seriously, Sasha doesn’t look as if puberty has hit her yet and I think she‘s fine. But we‘ll see of course.

1. GP (not sure whether selection is enough or participation is required)
2. JGPF qualifier over 14 years old
3. Top results of Russian Cup

Radionova didn‘t participate in either of her GP events, though and withdrew from her Russian Cup assignment after SP. Is she still allowed to skate at Nationals?
This is what I was wondering as well, if they count actually if she was selected for two gps or if she participated

Yeah, I‘m not sure either, that‘s what I ask. Will Elena even be ready for Nationals, is another question, though. She is injured, I think and back injuries are scary. Do you have any news? How‘s her condition.

On another note: Is this a known coach?

Without saying much... I‘m scared for that girl‘s knees... Tell me that‘s how it normally looks when skaters first land their triples because this makes me anxious.

She performed in Kazhakhstan a few weeks ago bc of Denis Ten. And I think in like a radio interview(idk if I have a good translation I google translated it) said that she would like to skate at nationals so she might be able to go? And I mean she posted an on ice photo a week ago or smth so she might be getting better? On the other hand Buyanova said that she has had this since she was young and she's at a point where she can't endure it anymore so I really don't know. It's so heartbreaking to see her like this bc she has the potential and maturity like no one else of the russians

Mmm... if she's been injured and hasn't competed at all this season I don't know if I really want to see her try and push to compete at nationals when she's probably not at 100% and others are, who have competed and scored above 200 but didn't qualify...

That is certainly true but honestly, I do not know in what shape she is in. And I would love to see her compete this season bc I was actually looking forward to her free

I‘m sad about Lena, too because she always seemed to love skating so much. And I think she wants to continue but back injuries are tricky and dangerous. I think she should heal completely before trying to compete at Nationals. Otherwise she risks her health. What use does it have if she isn‘t at her best and ends up somewhere distant from the top? It would probably crush her self confidence even more.

And if I‘m completely honest: I like both Sima and Lena so it‘s not out of pure bias but this season Sima deserves to be at Nationals more. Yes, Lena was injured and it obviously isn‘t her fault at all but she barely performed this year and Sima went from competition to competition, trying her best to get a spot. So I think it would be fair to remove her from the list of participants now and put Sima in, giving her the chance to prepare for the competition. It would be better for Lena and her health (I think she still needs some competing before jumping right in at the hardest competition possible, Russian Nationals) and imo, it would be what‘s fair.
