2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

While I am familiar with all the girls at nationals, I haven't necessarily watched all of them (a lot, some if at all). With 2 days left I'm torn between watching videos of them too and learning more, or staying oblivious in case I find another girl I really like and make it even harder for me to watch the competition lol :scratch2:

i say wait for nationals, watch them at nationals, and then pick ones to cheer for the next year

Medvedeva has a new short to Tosca. So nationals are going to be even more interesting.

I’m curious, has this been confirmed by her team or is based on the TSL report? (not that TSL doesn’t get good info, I don’t care what one thinks about them as commentators, their straight out info like coaching changes is usually good.) At least it’s not folks listening for E lucevan le stelle in the background of an IG post;)

Well, I will eat my words now! :) She has a new short after all. Fingers crossed for a successful skate at RusNats. I'm sure she will do a beautiful job.

I don’t think we’ll get any confirmation until Nationals. It is from TSL, with Dave crediting Doug Haw as the source. They said they couldn’t reveal the news last week but could this week. Given that Dave openly named the source, I think it’s as good as confirmed. Sounds like it’s information the team wanted to tease and leak before Nationals (see also: the clip of Medvedeva practicing that was analyzed for the music) without making a huge announcement — and if you want to get a piece of information into the conversation, TSL is a good way to do it. But, yeah, only source is TSL.

Alena will be fighting for bronze if even

I agree, she's a beautiful skater and was lovely at JGPF but so many other skaters must have problems for her to win at Nats. Sasha Trusova to fall or have mistakes on both quads (again, possible), Alina to fall or have a bad skate, Medvedeva to have bad skates, etc. She may well be on the podium but I doubt she will win outright simply because she is a junior (even if a very accomplished junior) and with no quads.

I think Orange Colored Sky had more potential but the program perhaps just requires too much maintenance for a growing season like this. I felt the long had more structural problems. Tosca feels more like her wheelhouse, although very heavy and grand. I'm interested in seeing what Misha put together for it.

I do not know what they mean, but translated from Russian "Tosca" means "boring"

Well, its opera stuff =)

as for me, i am not entirely convinced a nice program can be put out in a month. Before nationals, sounds a bit risky.

To think that some people considered her the most artistic skater of the last few years... shame she couldn't handle a jazzy program. Tosca seems to be more her thing.

That's assuming this hasn't been a backup plan for a bit longer. Somehow this feels like too smooth a transition to have just been churned out in a month.

I agree Tosca is more her usual fare, but who was calling her the most artistic skater of recent years? I'm not sure I heard that from anyone, except perhaps Weir/Lipinski raving away on NBC, but I tune them out whenever possible as it is because they impart so little actual information and talk through programs...

Her choreography in the past was very good at intentionally hiding her flaws and putting focus on her best qualities, but I don't think she has ever been the most artistic currently competing skater. She's just had a lot of well-put-together programs with nice music which of course grabs a wider swathe of audience emotions than perhaps jazz, which is divisive.

(I love Zhenya so this is not me hating, just being realistic)

Im said about Med's short replacement. I really liked her Orange Colored Sky program. Maybe a warhorse is just more comfortable, like a broken in sweater.
