2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Who is Talalaikina? I know everyone on the list except her. May I have a link to a video, please?

Maria is 16 years old and is coached by Rukavitsyn (Aliev's coach). This is the first major competition she's qualified to in the last couple years, her only other experience of skating at a big event was junior nationals back in 2016/17 where she finished 15th.

It's amazing how much she's improved this year, I think her average score this season must be 15 (maybe even 20!) points higher than in 2017/18.

Just to keep things clear, Eteri's mother died on november 8th. 40 day cound includes day of death, so it would be 17th november, so it doesn't even coincide with travel dates.

Also, 40th day is not a moment where people go to support the grieving relatives, but to remeber the deseased one. It is very unlikely that Alina was there, unless she was somehow envolved with Eteri's mother personally. This is usually more of a private gathering for relatives, friends, coworkers and such, unlike funeral where you can have, indeed, your friends to support you and even unrelated people who came to eat and drink. There are several remembrance days (3rd, 9th, 40th), and the whole thing becomes smaller and smaller, with less and less people.

Overall, I would say that it is debatable that Alina would not go to Saransk to attend Eteri's mother 40th day thing, and honestly, I'm not even entirely convinced that Eteri herself would stay behind for it (in my family, for instance, we never held any major 40th day gatherings, its always a small family dinner with whoever invites themselves dedicated to the deceased one's memory. So for example, in my family it would be normal and not disrespectful, if a business trip coincided with a 40th day of a close relative, to just eat alone in the hotel room and to think about the person, maybe give a couple of calls to the close family, and cancelling or delaying such a trip for a 40th day would be seen as excessively dramatic).

I think she's great! With a good skate she could easily be in the top 10.

Can Alina or Zhenya even breath without rampant speculation? This is ridiculous. Saransk is a 1.5 hr flight from Moscow--showing up for a couple practice sessions is more than sufficient to adjust. She needs no extraordinary reason to stay home besides wanting an extra day of regular training.

I reeeally like Evgenia's new SP. OCS was good, but she clearly was not ready for that type of program yet. Morever, she had kind of a mental block, so I think her ditching the program was a good decision.
Her new Tosca SP is dramatic and suits her very much. I really like the step sequence. She looks fierce! And I think it was the right choice to change the layout as well. Putting the combo as the last jumping pass was a bit too risky, and we saw the consequences at Skate Canada and IDF.

It doesnt benefit Medvedeva either, for example. We all seen her crumbling in France being the last to skate.

I don‘t think there‘s too much importance on starting orders. It could benefit Medvedeva but maybe it doesn‘t. And if she skates badly, who knows it‘s solely due to her having to skate last? Maybe it is, maybe it isn‘t. I don‘t think even she knows what the problem exactly was in France.

For Anna it could be great, though. She‘s better at the FS than the SP and being in one of the earlier groups could help her be more relax so that we can finally see that awesome SP clean! She always had a good FS, so nerves wise it probably won‘t matter that she‘ll be in the last group there.

Sasha is indeed skating a bit early and not in the same group with any of her teammates, I think, but I believe her SP will stand out more this way between the others who aren‘t as technically sound as her.

They won‘t underscore Sasha, Anna, Alena or Alina just because they skate early and they won‘t overscore Zhenya just because she‘s skating last. They first and most of all have to land their jumps and hit levels on spins and steps (looking at you, Zhenya, dear! ), then we can talk about judging.

It's an overnight sleeper train, which from personal experience (even in a run-down train from the '70s) is quite a pleasant experience as long as you are not a sensitive/light sleeper. With the amount of training these girls do I doubt any of them have a hard time falling asleep.

Actually makes perfect sense to go this way to avoid airport security/traffic, and a long overnight train is preferable to a short one where you can't get in a full night's sleep.

you've missed the funniest part of the last RN...? (Hi Statya! :dance2:)

looks like you miss the funny part of last RN... (Hi Statya! :dance2:)

I didn’t miss that. But last year was quite a different situation. There weren’t as clear leaders for the juniors as the 3A are now (even though Anna needs to do well here because JGPF wasn‘t as great for her)

Well, they can still try to do that this year again but there‘s no one they could possibly send to Worlds/Euros over Alina, she‘s the only one that could challenge for a gold this year. If Alina doesn‘t totally bomb, there is no way they can put Stasya above her even if they give her 80 PCS. For them to put Zhenya in front of Alina she has to show clean performances first and Alina needs to make mistakes. Results and reputation are on Alina’s side this year. And the juniors? They‘ve shown in the past that they don‘t have any objections to juniors medaling at seniors. So, I don‘t see any reason for them to artificially lower their scores, especially since Anna and Sasha in particular are well known stars in Russia and abroad (Japan loves them!) despite their youngster status. If they love Stasya that much, well I‘d start asking myself what kind of influence her or her family really has.

Well I travelled with the Russian trains many times, and even liked it, but I highly doubt that anyone would initially choose this kind of transportation before nationals, especially when rest of your team took the plane. You are sitting or lying in limited position for couple of hours and they will arrive to the Saransk in the middle of the night. Not exactly the best start of the day when you are expected to be at your full strength.

Hope Alina will make it and skate clean. I am rooting for her!

not really.
look at one (TAT' favourite) mediocre skater who messed up a big deal but they still put her above much better skaters. that's it. end of story.

I cannot believe this starts tomorrow.

Does anyone know if there a results page with start orders? A kind fan posted the ladies but I would like to see the other disciplines as well.

Will there be a Youtube stream?
