2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Can't imagine that was anyone's first choice. Overnight trains are comfy enough, but I can't imagine Eteri or Alina prefered coming in by train and a day late over a short flight. If I had to guess, they were probably planning to fly with the rest of the team, had to postpone last minute for whatever reason and the next earliest flight to Saransk was either too late for their liking or completely booked out due to RusNats.

Not saying that it's likely, but Alina is close friends with Eteri's daughter Diana. It's possible she stayed to be there for her friend.

Well, after watching the video from the train with Alinas grandma kissing and hugging Alina and Diana and Eteri using the white handkerchief...anything is possible🙃

Well I travelled with the Russian trains many times, and even liked it, but I highly doubt that anyone would initially choose this kind of transportation before nationals, especially when rest of your team took the plane. You are sitting or lying in limited position for couple of hours and they will arrive to the Saransk in the middle of the night. Not exactly the best start of the day when you are expected to be at your full strength.

Hope Alina will make it and skate clean. I am rooting for her!

Afaik they are taking the evening train, which departs from moscow at 21:30 or so and arrives in Saransk at 7:05.
Honestly, i totally see how one would chose such a train over a night flight, for example (where you have to get to an airport late in the night and then get to the hotel at something like 3am and stuff like that).

Now I am truly concerned. It does not look like a sleep carriage. Why would she take the one with seats rather than beds? Well, at least she does not have to compete tomorrow.

On the second thought, may be it is a special compartment with couches turning into beds.

So isn't it a rather short flight seeing that the drive from Moscow to Saransk is about 9 hours. They must have missed the last flight out.

I would be a mess after a long trip like that on a train, but she is 16 and I am sure can bounce right back.

It is strange, anyway. The Aeroflot flight that I took today leaves at 3.20 p.m. (you can still have morning training) and arrives at 4.40 p.m. The drive to the city takes 15 minutes so that a little after 5 p.m. you are at the hotel. Overnight train business looks suspicious but let's try to stay positive.

The coach class was quite full today but business class was empty. May be they could not get coach tickets and decided not to fly Alina business as Gorshkov and Gorshkov were flying economy. Just guessing - I hate trains.

Actually it seems like a sleep carriage, you can even see the blankets in that picture. Most likely it is a first compartment for two persons or some business compartment (not a simple coupé) Both girls can make a bed on each side.

Hope they have a comfy journey.

One advantage of travelling with the Russian trains is that they are literally never late (insane slow, but bang on time)

To me it seems like good thinking. A night on a sleeper carriage is extremely comfortable, rocking like a babe in a cradle. In a 6 or 4 person coupe, all the more so. Yes, the seats fold up/down into highly comfortable mattresses. Crisp white sheets and plenty of blankets are provided. Sleep specialists sometimes even recommend it for people with chronic insomnia. Arrive calm and rested after a tasty supper, sound slumber and fresh breakfast. All the more pleasant with a nearly full moon.
:agree:

where was this short program 3 months ago :palmf:
it's so perfect for her. i think it would have been much wiser to stick with something like this from the beginning, something she's comfortable with already while dealing with all the change she's going through. i think OCS was too much too soon...she should bring it back in a couple seasons.

Trusova just skated a clean long program. I'm glad they're going for this "simple quad" layout since it sort of maximizes the points due to smaller probability to fall. Oh, and Eteri was there too!

4Lz
4T
3F + 3T
2A
3Lz + 3Lo*
3Lz + 1Eu + 3S*
3F*

P.S: Dang, I've gotten so good at recognizing those jumps (took me *only* 1year)

I wish there was a Sapsan from Moscow to Saransk for Alina. I'm so concerned for her. What is going on?? Why didn't she fly there?
