2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I bet on Stasya (1st senior), Alina (2nd senior) and Liza. Sofia is the 3rd senior and Liza has beaten her 2 times this season and has had superior scores. Zhenya is the 4th senior and I think she'll be the 2nd alternate.

I want to see this podium combo for many years and at many events to come. What I love about these 3 is that they are such different and distinctive styles—it is easy to root for all 3. If I want intense dramatic skating, I go for Sasha. If I want something soft and beautiful that makes my heart sing, Anna is my girl. And if I want poise and perfection, a little dose of Alena. I do not think it will be as difficult for them to train together as in other “rivalries” (where there is a leader and a chaser in the same group), because all 3 are the same age, coming up at the same time, and have been winning and losing against each other for years. They are used to going back and forth, and clearly training together is pushing all of them to improve different aspects of their skating, since all 3 have different strengths. Very exciting times ahead.

With the unstable situation in seniors this year, I think Rusfed is also looking ahead and giving their full backing to this group. What happened this year was unexpected only because it happened a year earlier than planned.

who will they pick to go to Euros? Stasya, Alina and Liza? or Sofia or Medvedeva? idk about Sofia but none of the other 3 skated perfectly.... i wonder if Liza skated at nats she might be on podium or finished as highest ranked senior given how consistent she is... and her PCS will sky rocketed too here.

Alina, Stasya, Liza most likely. But it depends how quickly can Liza recover from pneumonia.

Stasya like the highest scored senior. Whou could predicted this?

I am worried about her since she said she is training through pain :/

When did she say it?

So after Nationals, which skater is now done?

/s
The one from the 2nd place. She lost her stability, lost her charm. She needs some time to rest.
She looked completely broken after seeing her PCS.

And what about that TR index?
Anybody can explain how she has only 7.96?

I am not so sure about the 2nd alternative. Zhenya is the favorite, olympic silver medalist and has higher score potential when she is clean.

This RusNat was shocking for me, but confirmed what we already knew, that junior ladies and senior ladies are 2 different worlds and in order to ensure equal opportunities for all ISU should raise the age for competing in seniors at 17.

Yeah. Be a coward. What a glorious way.

Even 15 will make a difference.

I would rather like if the World´s won´t be based on the nationality. That will make more justice

Yep.
3 spots for russians, 3 spots for japanese, and this is why instead of 30 awesome competitors we will have to sit through 3-4 average warm-ups, since only last 1.5 group will actually bring it.

Yeah. Be a coward. What a glorious way.

It is not about that, but for ensuring equal opportunities for all.
Because the juniors who won today (and I really like them all) they will face the same situation as Medvedeva, Zagitova etc in some years.

To be honest, the Eteri vs Brian drama was one sided.

How so? You don't think both Alina and Zhenya were under pressure? That Zhenya had to perform to justify her coaching choice and that Alina was under pressure from Eteri to outperform Zhenya? Let alone that they both had something to prove after last years Olympics, Alina to justify/solidify her win and Zhenya to regain her dominance. And both of them are now struggling.

I have to imagine the press about this battle has gotten to both coaches as well as the skaters. And on top of this the junior girls are basically foreshadowing the difficulties that lie ahead for each of them to just remain in the top 3.

Reminder: The first 2 eligible ladies at RusNats get to Europeans, only the 3rd is a coaching decicion.

Stasya
Alina (if healthy, hopefully :( )

+

Sofia by placement OR Liza (Medvedeva? Idk but you never know) by council

That ship has sailed.

The competition among the Russian ladies is brutal and we all knew that and then we'll know anything can happen. I have to wonder if the pressure on Alina got to her knowing how great her younger teammates are. something is wrong with her long program this year it's not nearly as good as her short program certainly not as reliable. Hope she can recover for euros and worlds. Maybe the pressure won't be so great on a Alina now and she can kind of come from behind and not be the overwhelming favorite and that could help her.

And for Worlds how do they decide?

It amazes me that despite all the talk of Russia's riches in ladies skating, they still risk 3 spots if they send the wrong team to Worlds.

The US kept 3 spots with a much weaker field for many years.
