2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

The 3A really owned this competition today! :)

Evgenia was also great today despite the fall. I really enjoyed that performance. It's a small victory for her.

Nastya T. was awesome! So determined. One of the highlights of the entire event. Very low PCS but the 4th TES.

Sad for Alina, Maria S., Polina, Liza N., Daria. :(

The rest really or mostly delivered. Congrats! 10 skaters over 200 + two over 199.

These two days have been amazing. First of all, I wanna thank the CROWD for being so supportive of each and every girl.

What was shown during this competition is that ice is slippery and no one is unbeatable.

1. Anna Shcherbakova - it took me a long time to come around, but I am starting to really like her. She was magnificent, and I think the edge on the lutz is definitely better now, and definitely outside. Definitely robbed in PCS, that 66,34 in FS was a felony! Congratulations on the win! Don't let anyone doubt you, you can achieve everything you want!
2. Alexandra Trusova - I am starting to see better lines, she's more attentive to the music, I LOVED the short program, it's one of my favourites.
3. Alena Kostornaia - I cried twice today: after Zhenya and after Alena. She's definitely my no. 2 skater. Her 2A is so big, and I think that she will definitely get that 3A one day, and when that happens it'll blow my mind with its beauty even more so than Anna's magnificent 4Lz! She too was robbed in PCS in FS, and I'd give her at least 2 more.
4. Stanislava Konstantinova - Last year I was really annoyed that she got all those perks, but she's won me over this season. She's just lovely, I love her SP!
5. Alina Zagitova - I am worrying more and more about her injuries (or growth pains as her team calls it :ohwell:). The tapes are all over her legs. She still has this mental thing where if she makes a mistake at the beginning it's kinda like a domino effect and you get what happened today. So I just wanna ask you: if you were saying "zhenya's done" and more hurtful things when she ended up 14th yesterday, would you say that for Alina today after she ended up 12th in the fs? If yes, STOP YOURSELF IN THE TRACKS AND DON'T SEND EVEN MORE NEGATIVE THINGS TO YET ANOTHER SKATER, THEY REALLY DON'T NEED IT. I still can't believe she got more PCS than everyone except Zhenya for that skate today.....
6. Sofia Samodurova - Congrats on her consistency this season! That is not an easy thing to do. However, I am just not that into her skating. She's not really captivating for me.
7. Evgenia Medvedeva - Yesterday I was super sad and I couldn't believe what had happened. "There's no coming back from this", I thought. Well, she proved me wrong, and made me cry my eyes out today. This was me at the end of her skate today: :yahoo::hap85::yes2::tantrum::hap10::hap57: That step sequence was FIRE and that's because she was super into it. I would love this to be a turning point for her, and to say WELCOME BACK QUEEN. Those PCS in the sp yesterday though.... I really don't think they were deserved :roll5:
8. Anastasia Gubanova - Lovely sp! Lovely girl! I should definitely keep an eye out for her.
9. Alena Leonova - YAAAAAASSS SLAY GIRL you're never too old to do what you love!
10. Anastasia Tarakanova - Definitely one of my top faves. Too bad about the sp, but the fs was great! Totally deserved more PCS, and I hope she doesn't give up, she's got the best jumps for me out of all the non-Eteri girls (though better than Alina's) when she lands them. I was worried that she wouldn't make it since she fell a lot during practice today, but she proved me wrong!
11. Polina Tsurskaya - She's one of the most artistic skaters for me, but unfortunately the rest isn't working.
12. Maria Sotskova - It pained me seeing her cry in the FS today
13. Daria Panenkova - My heart breaks for her. I watched the practice live today too and she fell so many times, she was crying, and made me sad. She deserves better treatment, a better coach. I just wish she could be happier. Good luck Daria!

As for the other girls, about 3 of them had one the best spins flexibility-wise out there! I absolutely loved that! Definitely my favourite spins.

I loved this competition, and I'm soo glad the juniors did so well! Gooooo team super Juniors!! :yes2:

It amazes me that despite all the talk of Russia's riches in ladies skating, they still risk 3 spots if they send the wrong team to Worlds.

The US kept 3 spots with a much weaker field for many years.

I still think Alina, Liza and Sofia are the safest bets for placing in the top 10.

Okay so the Russian Nationals was a competition of the ages. So good!

I'm really happy for all the three juniors, especially Anna since she is the least consistent, and she was just amazing on the ice. Kostornaia's skating is a thing of beauty, and I really regret the fact she is not a senior.
I still don't like Trsuova's skating that much, it's too "juniorish" for my tastes, but she delivered a really good and solid performance. She deserves her place on the podium.
What made me really emotional is definitely Evgenia's free skate. It was not 100% perfect because of the fall, but she really owned the program. It was just majestic and I'm happy to see that she got the highest score for the free skate among the senior ladies. She proved to everyone out there that she can fight, she is still here, and she is not over. And I'm so proud of her for that. Morever, her combo 3S3Lo was just wow. I think she can, if she wants to, learn the 4S. Her edge jumps, especially the salchow and the loop, are amazing.

I feel extremely sad for Alina. This girl is a sweetheart and she had a really rough skate here. I don't know what happened - the nerves, an injury? Anyway, I hope she is okay. I've to admit I was sure after the SP that Alina being the national champion was a given, but I was clearly wrong. I don't really understand what happened here - she made mistakes that were really unusual, like for example, when she messed up her spiral. I hope she will rest, and that she is okay, mentally and physically.

For Euros and Worlds, I think Alina is going to be sent, even if she messed up. I don't see the federation not sending her to Euros and Worlds, since she is the Olympic Champion. However, in 2015, Sotnikova was not sent to 2016 Worlds either, even if she was here, so who knows? But frankly, I think the Russian Federation is going to sent her, because they are going to take into account her body of work (BOW).
Liza is going to be sent as well I think, since she has been on fire all season, and she has a triple axel, so I don't see the federation not sending her.
I feel the same about Samodurova, but since she is not really...well, not as well known as Evgenia or Tuktamysheva, I don't know if the federation is going to sent her, because she lacks a bit in the PCS departement. However, she has been consistent all season, and was the most consistent out of all russian ladies, so for me, she deserves a spot.
For Stanislava - I don't know. Frankly, I'm not going to lie, but I don't want to see her at Euros and Worlds. First, because she tends to be extremely overscored when she competes at home. But also, because she is a hit or a miss. And when she is a miss, nothing can save her - not even the PCS, unlike skaters like Alina, or Evgenia.
I want to see Evgenia at Euros / Worlds, because I really had the impression that this competition was a turning point for her, and she realized that she was supported, loved and that the Russian public was not critital of her, but supportive. And we saw that today with her brilliant skate. Morever, she bounced back really strong, earning the highest free skate score of all senior ladies (and 4th place overall), and gaining 7 places (14th to 7th overall, with a crazy competition). I think the federation is going to consider sending her as well.
I also want to see her compete more, because we only saw her gorgeous SP only one time. I want to see what masterpiece it can be when it's clean!

So who are going to world? I'm seriously worried about 3 spots in 2020 now...

We don't know yet.
The best way to keep three spots is to send Alina, Liza, and Sofia. To do that, RusFed would have to break their own rules and name two by coaches' council. I doubt they'd do that though. Stanislava is doing better than last season, but I doubt she'd keep the third spot if Alina/Liza couldn't do it.

It is not about that, but for ensuring equal opportunities for all.
Because the juniors who won today (and I really like them all) they will face the same situation as Medvedeva, Zagitova etc in some years.

Yeah. EQUAL. EQUAL for all.

Is it possible for Alina to withdraw from Europeans to focus on Worlds? I think taking the extra time to potentially rework some of her FS and prepping psychologically for worlds would be her best bet. I really want to her have the World title so she has one every major competition before the next generation emerge. I actually think she has potential for longevity physically (but maybe not mentally) and may have the ability to come from behind in a few years when she has less expectations on her after the other girls are the favorites.

I don´t think they are going to break the rule.

The give Stasya more PCS then Sofia to secure her post. What I actually, in this case, get. If Sofia would get higher PCS in the free program, two best seniors would be her and Stasya and then Liza would loose her spot.

I dont think that skiping a major competition where she can medal easily is a good idea, unless there are very good reasons for that (like health issues).

Yep.
3 spots for russians, 3 spots for japanese, and this is why instead of 30 awesome competitors we will have to sit through 3-4 average warm-ups, since only last 1.5 group will actually bring it.
1. You don't have to act so snobbish [emoji23] [emoji23] nobody is making you sit through 3-4 "unworthy" groups if you don't want to

I think you have to give Liza the Euros spot so that she can show that she deserves her Worlds spot. The question is, what happens if she isn't well enough to go to Euros?

I just hope Alina is not injured and Liza is fit for worlds... Russia really needs Alina & Liza to fight for medals with the japanese girls

For those that said that Zhenya was done after yesterday's SP, a big reality check for them. Instead of withering away like some had expected, she came back slaying with new combo 3S+3Lo. There was command in her eyes today and she even confidently gestured to the crowd to get hyped up before the step sequence. Her strongest skate of the season, judges deservingly awarded her with the highest PCS of the field and free skate scores of the seniors. The best part...seeing her thank the crowd at the KnC and being genuinely happy with her performance and scores :)

I agree. I just hope Liza and Alina would be healthy on their next competition.
That si the big question. Will Liza be healthy and ready enough for euros, cause 2 weeks in a hospital and than beginning to train again when you couldn't even go to a gym for 2 weeks? Don't know if euros aren't to soon for Liza. And alina I just don't know. She obviously was in real pain today. Hope it is nothing serious and if it is that they do what they did for zhenya last year to sit at least euros out if it is really a serious injury . I mean god that girl had so much tape on her. Jesus. Because if both fall away for euros or one falls away than we have either Sofia or zhenya in the team for at least one competition

To admire the performances of the 3 medalists together (in an international competition) the World Junior Championship 2019 is the place to be. The location will be Zagreb (Croatia). It's a cool destination per se :) Anyone going?

Have you been watching the samecompetiton as we all have? Alina seems to be injured or at least heavily in pain
