2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Elizaveta and Stanislava also have the spots for Universiade. This doesn't make sense to me but oh well. Evgenia and Maria are substitutes

Wait what? Why the hell does Stanislava gets sent there as well?

No, serious question, are the talks that her father is someone important/influencial true? Bc that would explain it.

Russia can still sweep the podium with Liza out, unless Kostner makes a surprise appearance and Stanislava bombs. Liza will probably gain some momentum from Universaide before Worlds as her spot is secured. Euros will be the stage to judge which 2 girls should be sent to Worlds. That is the only reason I can think of for such a decision.

I also think they are sending Elizaveta to Universiade to prepare for Worlds. Makes the most sense. She has high scoring potential. They would be stupid to not send her to Worlds

I don't think Alina will make it to Europeans and probably it was a bad idea to send her to nationals too.

EC is in a month. Forcing Tukt to participate would ruin her health totally.

The Univerciade is two weeks before WC. There is some time to rest between this and that.
Tukt's having the full February for recuperation.

Sofia <3 <3 <3

I still can't believe RusFed made a fair and sensible choice.

Sofia & Liza will need to deliver and they might send 2 Mishin girls to worlds!

I'm still baffled they didn't sent Zhenya to Universiade after they pushed her at Nats...

Rusfed has announced that Alina, Stasya and Sofia will be sent to Euros. Liza and Evgenia as substitutes.

I am not surprised. Except for last year, Russia have been very consistent in sending the top skaters from RusNat to Euros. It's interesting though that they put Tuktamysheva as the 1st alternate and Medvedeva as 2nd. Will this be the first time Sofia and Stanislava compete against each other in an international event??

Euros: Konstantinova, Zagitova, Samodurova
Subs: Tuktamysheva, Medvedeva

Universiade: Konstantinova, Tuktamysheva
Subs: Medvedeva, Sotskova

Mishin: fed told me to prepare Liza for the World Championships.

based on the Universiade choice and the Mishin interview, it sounds like Tuktik will be part of Worlds team.

Good for Liza. She deserves it!!!

This looks like the right choice. Liza T needs time to recover from her illness. Evgenia wasn't put above the 2 other girls, as it should - it's for her own good! Konstantinova and Samodurova now have the chance to prove themselves. And Alina will have the opportunity to bounce back!

Wow indeed I'm pretty surprised how great the Fed's desicion is:yahoo::laugh:
My mood instantly changed from depressed to extatic:biggrin:

Universiade would be good test skate for Liza(+going with her bf:laugh:) & with plenty of time to recover. We will need her so much at worlds!

Also gr8 for Sofa AND Stasya both going to euros:dance:

Lol at the opinion that Stasya is getting scores bc someone with connections:laugh: she is unstable but who
Is???? Who would you send instead? Med?

Can we talk about the fact that Kostornaia could have won GOLD even despite Anna and Sasha’s quads, if she hadn’t made that mistake in the SP? In the past Sasha has only needed one quad to beat Alena, but it looks like the judges are finally awarding a fair PCS desparity between them. (Not just in this competition, but it happened at the junior Grand Prix Final as well!)

Everyone’s talking about the quad juniors battling each other, but the real battle might be the quad juniors vs. Kostornaia. Anna and Sasha’s quad success rate is around 40%, which means Alena could actually win most of the time, assuming PCS is fair. I thought that was pretty crazy to think about and makes junior Worlds way more exciting.. can’t wait to see them all again. :)

This was my thought too, hope she brings it next year in seniors as well :peace:

Spent the whole day watching and rewatching. Ice is indeed very very slippery. Nonetheless, the Eteri 3A deserved their big win although personally, I would have Sasha Trusova as my preferred pick but Anya Scherbakova fairly deserved the higher PCS for her better musicality and interpretive skills. If Alyona K had not stumbled and fell on her step seq and got docked -1 in the SP, she could very well be within a point of Sasha and Anya and that will be too close.

Just shocked to see Zagi bomb the FS this way. I guessed the stress got to her. She was lucky that some dubious calls didn’t get made against her and the PCS was held up. Sofia Samodurova IMO deserved to have ranked higher. Not a big fan of Konstantinova but she did put out two nice skates and earned her spots for Euros and Worlds as highest rank senior. Though I may prefer some others, she earned the rights.

Tarakanova and Gubanova impressed me but I guess judges were not. I was never a Zhenya fan but I got to say she came roaring back in the FS, probably with nothing except pride. Clearly, the audience love her, the PCS was OTT IMO but I can understand that the reactions from the riled up spectators put judges in a generous mood. I used to criticize her for her SS gliding but that is clearly an area which she has somehow worked on and improved. Lots of folks criticize her rationale for going to BOrser but I think if she ekes this out and take the time, she will make it.

Kostornaia could have won gold, and that is great.
A while ago people were saying how she is the "loser" out of 3A and so on since she doesn't quad, but...
Also, she lost her 3A due to growth, and i suppose they didn't want to force it this season, but its very likely they will recover it for next season.
