2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I would hope they are fixing her underrotations first. I think that would be better for Alina

Training quads helps build up leg strength and height on triples. You're not going to fix underrotations just by doing triples over and over again when it's less a technique issue and more a lack of muscle strength to compensate for bone growth issue.

Go back and look at how tiny Sasha was two seasons ago. I doubt many predicted her current trajectory back then. Her leg strength and overall muscle mass and jump height has really progressed in a very short time. I’m sure those quads have helped too!

Also..look at how much growth we’ve seen in her poise, presence, and execution of her overall performance. It’s why I find it so frustrating when people make drive by comments like...she should also work on her performance...as if she hasn’t and isn’t going to continue progress. She’s not all jump jump jump as we’ve seen people suggest on multiple occasions. I’m like :roll5:

I haven't seen this performance before. It's shocking how much her overall jump technique has improved, from lutz edge to toe pick to rotation and height. Team Eteri really did wonders in polishing up her technique, whatever the critics want to say about the "bad technique" they teach

What are harnesses for? Making the jump higher or stablizing the landing?

Coaches use them for both. Well they help the skater to gain extra air time. Look how much energy Sergei is putting into holding Alina up. He’s helping her squeeze out an extra fraction of a second to help her complete the rotation. It helps a skater develop the feel of the rotation and land in a much safer atmosphere. It also can help to ease the impact of falls. The goal is to become less and less dependent on the harness until it reaches a point the skater can go for it without it.

I have a few friends who coach using them :)

The other thing is the "wait until after puberty" . That ship has sailed. She has been in puberty for quite some time, with only slight challenges to the jumps. There is a pic of Trusova and her mother standing together, her mother is very tiny. Sorry folks, unless she breaks something, her jumps are here to stay, and little will be affected by 'puberty' changes. She is just...astounding.

The safe way to work on a jump. it helps to "feel" a jump.
Work up the height and it helps build up a confidence.
still. Harness is a harness. It's not the same as to jump it yourself.

A jumping harness is a necessity in skating's highly competitive world. Pro-Motion Jumping Harnesses can dramatically reduce the learning time for double, triple and quad jumps. The Coach is able to direct the take-off curve, keep the Skater straight in the air, and keep the Skater's back in position upon landing. Down-time due to injury can be minimized. You will be able to instill confidence in your Skater's ability to do the difficult jumps and have them avoid practicing mistakes.

btw Sasha grew up since the beginning of the season. The reason why they changed her SP costume was because she has outgrown the old one.
In spite of it, Sasha's quads are getting better and higher.

This. Exactly.

That's a really good point. But I do feel uncomfortable with Alina training a quad on an injury, I wish she would at least let it heal before they train quads

yep. Sasha's mother is on a small side. Alyona's mother is tiny too.

Give her a nice little break from competition prep and she’s rattling off new quads in no time.

At this point, i wonder if first 4A will be landed by men or by Trusova.
I mean, surely, if she is having trouble with 3A, a quad of that will be much easier for her.

she did it in practice after all.

Man, Russian ladies sure are exciting. Here I was hoping to catch a break to study for my exams, but no, I got so excited and now I'm gonna rewatch videos

:2thumbs: :thank:

I saw someone call the harness a fishing pole.
Looks like Dudakov caught a fresh Olympic champion for dinner today. :)

Uh no... just look at Alina last year to this year, same thing for Alena. They're both older and the they grew quite a bit in a short time.

Puberty can has an age range where it occurs. Some develop earlier, some later. Athletes with who train hard and have a low body fat tend to experience some aspects of puberty much later than the average person.
