2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I don't know with rusfed, but I somehow think it's a possibility if she gets silver and/or messes up a lot. Dumb talk... I try not to read much, but the stupid Interview someone linked here asking Leonova if Alina should rather rest and give others a chance to go to worlds when she got euros worried me. Buuut it's simply not happening, she will be great tomorrow and nobody can doubt her :)

Does anyone know if 3A is also planning to compete in the Cup Final?

Good question. There’s also the European Youth Games that has 1 entry so I would assume it would go to one of the 3A

I would find it really surprising to see anything other than Alina, Sofya, and Liza at WC. Sofya and Alina have done enough this season to make their case IMO. Unless Sofya comes out and goes out of her way to screw up her FS on an epic level she should be good to go.

I also expect Stasya to throw down a good FS and still put up ~210. It’s kind of her thing :coffee:

I doubt it - Stasya who consistently underperforms when itcounts would like need 154 pts.

I think they will chose the winner of jrNats... or the jrWorld champ? Or maybe both will be the same girl? :D

All of 3A went to the Russian Cup final last year so we might see them... and I always love to see them!!

This competition was a bit boring lol. It looks like Alina's 2A and 3F are a bit higher than what they used to be, and especially the 3F even with the mistake it always looks majestic to me when she does it. Sofia is sort of reaching Evgenia level consistency and that's great, and I'm willing to even bet that she medals at Worlds (because I can  ). I don't think that we can trust Stasya to pull it together and be clean tomorrow, but if she could she would end up on top over Alexia Paganini. I believe Sofia will be clean tomorrow too and she definitely has a shot at that first place too if you ask me (I know this sounds a bit farfetched, but considering what happened at RusNats, still possible). Another thing I noticed is that Alina seems a bit thinner in her legs compared to RusNats, and I'm just hoping she won't end up stick-thin like Evgenia was during last season.

As for Worlds, unless Stanislava is completely clean tomorrow and ends up 3rd behind Alina and Sofia, I don't think she'll be sent, and Liza will go instead.

Liza was always going to go to Worlds if she's healthy the question was would it be Sofia or Stanislava for the third spot. I think we know the answer to that at this point.

The free skate is going to be wild. I don’t envy the Rusfed having to make such a choice.

Last year I really couldn't stand Stasya because she was bombing everywhere and much better skaters like Polina and Gubanova lost their chances at an international competition. This year I watched her for the first time when she had that clean FS and I actually like her. But the poor thing really needs a break from all the negativity.

Watched Alina's FS runthrough and I believe there won't be a lot of issues, she's quite consistent and I think she'll win. You gotta admire her for sure! That 3Lo is getting more < though.

She has the ability to do it, but will not be so easy.

Why not, though? I mean, I‘m not saying it will be easy, obviously not. But it‘s totally within her abilities like you said and I think that the only thing she can‘t do is have a meltdown. If she has one or two minor mistakes, the gold‘s hers. She‘s been skating clean runthroughs and even if she is called on URs once or twice... in the SP where Sofia was virtually perfect and Alina had an UR + an unstable landing, she still won. Unless she bombs, this title is hers. Considering how she did in practice... she‘ll get that gold. I‘m wishing both girls good luck, though and I would be very, very happy for Sofia, too as she‘s a wonderful girl and a lovely performer. I just don‘t see it happening.

And of course good luck to Stasya too. Hoping for her to have a great skate and maybe even getting bronze? It‘s pretty unlikely but we‘ve seen stranger things.

Good luck to everybody! :cheer:

Zagi should ditch the +3Lo for the SP, IMO. It's just not working out anymore.

For the LP, she should switch it to the front half if she really wants to attempt it there, IDR if she already did so.

But at the practices at nationals she was also very clean and consistent! I think this isn‘t her problem. The problem are her nerves and the pressure. She has to keep these under control.

I like that she is going all the way with it. Bradie change it and I understand that's a smart move and will be smart for Alina too. But sometimes pride interferes and kicks smartness aside.

When she is fresh relaxed, she rotates it. When the Lutz landing though is not ideal then the problems start. I think except the body changes, two different Lutz combinations in one program is difficult to pull.

I think the main reason why she‘s not ditching it is that it‘s her signature combo and she won the Olympics with it. I wonder why she doesn‘t do a 3F-3Lo, though. The few I‘ve seen were always fully rotated and beautiful. Anna Shcherbakova switched to this combo too in the FS, after 3Lz-3Lo didn‘t work out a few times. And 3F-3Lo is just as impressive of a combo.

In the FS, though, the 3Lz-3Lo has been working reasonably well. She‘s had more problems with the 3Lz-3T, surprisingly.

I think if she wants the combo to stay, now‘s the right season to maybe have it a bit more inconsistent. If she ditches it now she won‘t be able to practice and I feel like she‘ll need it next year against 3A. That‘s why I‘d rather have her keep it, even if there‘s an UR here or there. It‘s not like she‘s constantly falling on it and the ones she does in practice always look good.

What could help her, though, might be to ditch a few of all these transitions into and out of the jumps for the time being and focus on entering them with more speed. She seems to be a bit slower than last year and I think that‘s mainly why she‘s been underrotating lately.

I do feel like she’s been working on it, however, her jumps in practice looked faster. But it will take some time until that translates to competition. And it‘s obvious she‘s still struggling with growth. But for all that, she‘s been doing really well.

And there I hoped that this would not find its way into the Russian ladies thread. Let the drama begin *sigh*

I don’t see any drama, she is in the reserve list, so they have to stand by. With Liza‘s recovery uncertain and with Stasia possibility for a meltdown, she has to be ready. It would be grossly unfair to take Sofia‘s ot Alina‘s spots, but if Stasia and Liza withdraw, she has to go.
