2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

To me it seems pretty cut and dried: Tutk, Sofia and Alina to worlds. If Tutk can't go then you send Stanislava.

Stanislava ? no way she is 4th here so she its not even guaranteed
Med can take her spot if she does well in russian cup event or Universiade ?

I think the World team should really be set here:

Spot 1: Sofia Samodurova. New SB by 9 points, 2019 European champion, extremely consistent, made the GPF, won 2 GP medals, is getting better and better scores throughout the season

Spot 2: Alina Zagitova. Has she struggled this season? Yes, definitely. Does she still deserve to go to Worlds? Also yes. She still has the highest total score of the season, won GPF and European silver, won 2 GP events, and won a Challenger. If clean, she can still challenge for Worlds gold.

Spot 3: Elizaveta Tuktamysheva. Triple axel, GPF bronze medal, redemption season for her, on an upward trajectory.

*Note: I just numbered the spots to number them, not that Sofia earned her spot first or Liza earned her spot last, for example*

At this point both Sonya and Liza Worlds spots must be locked, the only two consistent top russian ladies this season.

I don't think it is locked yet for Liza. She didn't compete at Nationals and missed Europeans. I think she should be on the team but I suspect that the Fed will want her to do one competition before Worlds.

Let's have Russian Nationals again :p

Great idea. It would probably ensure even more chaos.

It will be interesting to see rusfed's next steps. Liza and Zhenya are pretty secured to participate in the Russian Cup Final but will they have Alina participate too? I would say yes but rusfed has done crazier things.

I just hope any decision takes into account Alina's emotional and physical state and not just her scoring potential. Based on their results this season, I agree it looks like a clear selection of Liza, Sofia and Alina. But is that best for Alina? I don't know. I don't have a horse in this race, but I know I don't like seeing Alina in this condition.

yes another worlds scenario will crush her emotionally and next season will be very very crowded and difficult russian ladies field.

I can honestly not take anything into account yet. I'm just confused and have no idea what is happening this season. I guess we'll have to wait what rusfed decides to do. I'm quite worried for Alina but I can't say what would be better for her either. I guess we'll see her at the Russian Cup Final again... I'm sceptical, though. She looks like she really needs a rest.

It sucks that these things happen, but it's made the season quite interesting actually.

Right now, it feels like only Sofia's spot is guaranteed for Worlds. I would personally (keep in mind, I said personally) like to have a skate off between Liza, Alina, Konstantinova and Evgenia. I doubt that that's what RusFed would do, but I think that thats what needs to be done because right now there are too many arguments for and against everyone so it would just be easier to be put everything to bed this way. These are just my two cents, anyway...

I like a skate-off idea, with Sofia being exempt because she has proven she is consistent. But I also think it is more opportunity to unfairly boost Konstantinova.

We have the Cup of Russia Final later. RusFed can ask skaters who they want to test to skate there

Zagi will carry the bad technique rep around with her through her career now unless she shows a drastic change. That change may indeed have to be one of coaching.

Move to Mishin? Alina? YES!!!!! Yes please!!!!! What a great idea!!!!!!!

I think her team will get rid off her during this summer. I suspect that they will put so much pressure on her in training (and what we have seen in yestderday training session will be nothing), that she will not be able to cope and she will either retire or move to another coach, although she would not want it, because she is attached to this team.
But this is the strategy of team Tutberidze. They get rid off the skaters that are not highly competitive (anymore) and they will have 3 new very skilled seniors next season so...
Yes, yes... it is just my opinion at this point of time - for the advocates of Eteri.

but who are her alternative coaches in Russia ?

Mishin is the next best choice, then there's Panova who teaches good skating skills and interesting programs, Cherbatova with Stanislava, Tarasova but she likes Med more, anyone except Buyanova pls.

I do not know... I think if she would move she would go to Plushenko.
As I said I don t see her having the initiative to move, but her current team forcing her to leave.

Weirdly, I would like to see Alina with Raf, for some reason. I know its never ever ever going to happen, but I think it could really work.

I also think if she has another Worlds meltdown, there wont be of use for her next seaon.
a coaching change is almost inevitable, Plushenko school is too flashy so I would think a more exclusive and smaller group would be best for her.

I dont think Mishin would accept her though.

We said the same about Zhenya moving and look where we're now. :)

I'm not saying Alina will change coach (I'm actually fairly confident that she will not) but a lot of strange things have happened before. I think Raf could be a great fit. He's got some of that tough mentality and he has really helped Mariah Bell and Eunsoo Lim. But then again:  Who knows.
