2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

At this point, perhaps they should just select Evgenia, Liza, and Sofia for the World team. Of the 2 most recent ISU championships, Alina had 2 free skates with multiple underrotations, a downgrade, and fall(s). And Stanislava has under-performed in all 3 ISU championships, WJC, Worlds, and Euros. Seriously, how many chances do these two skaters get? The Russian Ladies barely held on to three spots last year with a 5th and an 8th. Perhaps they should give Zhenya a chance as the third entry to help maintain those spots.

it seems to me like eteri has been investing even more time in alina now because of her issues rather than ditching her like some people believe? staying with alina for an extra day before nationals, putting out that video of her trying the quad, and alina doing extra training with dudakov all show that they're putting in extra work with her. the only student eteri follows on ig is alina, it's pretty clear that they've gotten closer this season. probably because of all the drama.

i know everyone is freaking out because the results haven't been so good but alina's jump technique has gotten better. she twists her body way less to get her jumps around and uses her legs more, there's a huge difference if you watch last seasons competitions vs this season. her spins have gotten better as well. the coaching team seems pretty relaxed, daniil posted stories of them trying out curling in the middle of euros. it seems like the only people who are stressed out are the fans lol.

People love trashing Eteri and act like she's the devil reincarnated :scowl:

If anything she seems like someone who gets too invested and tries too hard. I don't she drops skaters when they stop performing well. If anything it looks like it makes her push even harder and that's probably why they end up leaving because the intensity is too much to bare. It's just the type of character she is and that's it, she doesn't mean bad. The atmosphere at her camp is probably the same even when things are going great but its easier to go with the flow when things are looking up and not down.

Nah, I wouldn't count Alina's performance at Euros against her at all.

As a couple of people pointed out a few weeks ago, Europeans isn't even a "major" competition.

I think her commendable performance at GPF, a MUCH more important competition should be her ticket to Worlds.

Moving Forward.

:laugh:After this many years, she has the same style of noodling over-expressive arms. It seems it is a Mishin trademark of artistry.

She always looks like she's skating to some middle eastern music and doing stereotypical hand movements

I'm surprised we haven't seen her do a performance to "Walk Like an Egyptian" yet. She seem to love doing the "sand dance don't you know"

After last nights free my choice for the world team would be Sofia, Liza and Nastya G. I do however not expect Nastya to get the last spot but Alina based on her results earlier this seson.

I will say that I dont think Alina is beyond hope or that she is done but that she needs less preassure on her and some time to calmly deal with her recent growth. I can see next seson being better when she can calmly practice for the entire summer and she has less preassure in the shadow of 3A.

I think they mean in comparison to Medvedeva not that Zagitova is weak. Medvedeva’s technique started to fail after her first senior season, just like Zagitova. But, strength of will kept her going almost mistake free for two more years. Among Eteri skaters only Med has ever shown that kind of mental strength. Alina is not weak. She is a fighter. But, the strength needed to leave Eteri like Med did is beyond the reach of most people.

You’re not Alina’s fan so perhaps you don’t know her history. She left her parents to move to Moscow to train with eteri when she was only 12. In comparison to evgenia moving to Canada wth her mother when she was 18, I would say Alina is very strong mentally. Perhaps she is staying with Eteri because she believes in her. After all, she would know more than us. She’s in the environment daily where as we only see from the outside.

Yeah she's truly been through a lot. I think that what sorta hurts the most is when people say "can't X work more on that??" as if they're just sitting on their butt the whole day not trying to improve.

My biggest pet peeve is when people say about inconsistent skaters "why doesn't X see a sport psychologist?", "why doesn't X go to a jump coach?". As it was that simple and magical, see a sport psychologist and BOOM land of your jumps at the next competition...

I swear Carmen is cursed :(

It was hard yesterday but even more so today with Kolyada and Kovtun

Zagitova and Kolyada are on borrowed time like Tarasova / Morozov
in a more loose term this year is a transition/filler year for the upcoming juniors.
