2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

With all the speculations about who to send to Worlds, here is how RusFed have acted in the past. It appears to me that GPF have had little or no effect for the selection to Worlds.

Injuries may have been a big part of the selection process - maybe some experts here on this thread may know the answer to some of the strange selections??:)

The only only other country which as diverse as Russia is US. Liza is your not typical "European Russian" and not a stereotypical blond-blue-eyes regular Slavic girl. She is a Tatar or Udmurt, iirc. So, yeah, there are probably some Asian/Middle Eastern culture in her. She was born somewhere close to St Petersburg, AFAIK, but that's her genes. That gives her flavor and different style. I'm all in for diversity in styles, cultures and choreography.

Tuktamysheva is more slavic (russian) than tatar, comparing her with Zagitova, there is too much difference, since she is more tatar than Russian; instead, other girls like Shcherbakova are more balanced (50/50) russian-tatar.
 
My heart hurts Zagitova. I can't imagine the pressure of being Eteri's #1 knowing for a FACT that your time at the top is going to be short lived. I would follow Evgenia's lead and find a new coach next season because it's obvious that she is on her way out with the younger girls coming up next season.

:rolleye: it seems like you are more worried about alina's future than alina herself.
 
Just a heads up to people with suggestions for Alina.

I don't think she follows social media or other such things anymore.

So, unfortunately, she's probably not going to see any of it.

She seemed very weak and fatigued, and I did wonder if she is on some sort of crazy diet. This is not a comment on Eteri, etc. etc., often this is a normal dangerous teenage thing and it has nothing to do with coaching staff, parents, pressure or anything else. I didn't notice whether she looks thinner or not (she always looks spectacular to me), but she seemed, well, physically weak, barely getting the jumps off even in the practice. It could also be lack of sleep, or an illness or any number of things, but, I do hope when she returns someone is paying attention to her exhaustion level, diet, and so on. (It also occurred to me that maybe she just didn't get any sleep the night before the long program-something as simple as that)
 
So, next to Rika Kihira, is Alysa Liu now the biggest longer-term threat to Sasha, Anna, Alena, and Kamila? This is really good, and I'm an American who feels like he hasn't been able to say that for a U.S. skater in some time...

Sure, there are areas of her presentation that can use some polish, but keep in mind that she's younger than all but Kamila.

BTW, watching 3As from Rika, Liza, and now Alysa makes me really appreciate how amazing Alena's 3A is in the rare moments that we've seen it. I really hope it becomes a regular part of her programs. Sure, her body is changing, but if Liza can do it, why not Alena? Throwing in Mirai, too, I'm curious how folks would rank their 3As, along with any other contemporary ladies skaters I'm forgetting.

both Alina and Liza were born in Udmurtia, their hometowns are 145 km apart in a straight line

Sorry but I think switching coaches will have a worse effect. She has too much on her plate right now (psychological, physical) and adjusting to a new environment is just going to add to her problems. Maybe they should consider taking out some transitions so she can conserve energy for the jumps.

She just won US Nationals. Some would say that means she is the best American lady.

P.S. I have my reservations about this.
 
I'd love to see less transitions too. I am not even sure they helped her scores this season. Now Alina is much taller, so could try some minimalist modern style as Kostner. The crazy amount of transitions are more demanding for skaters with longer arms and legs.

Nope...Alysa was still too young to compete on the JGP this season. Next year she’ll be old enough though but we gotta give the girl credit....she did just win US nats but it’s sort of because Mariah and Brady oof’d too much. It really looked like the judges were ready to put either of those two in first place over her if they went clean. She’s just a baby though. It will be fun to watch her next year and it was super fun to watch her Win US Nats.

Is she much fun as Tarakanova?? I’m not so sure yet but IMO that is a tall order to ask of anyone ;)

She's a little more than a year younger than Sasha and a little less than a year older than Kamila, so not all that different than our Russian girls.
