2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I doubt RusFed will help her, especially after her low score at Sr nationals.

I could see Anna crumblibg under the pressure though. She doesn’t have as much experience in the big comps as the others and being Sr National champ probably added a lot of expectations.

I agree. If she skates well, Rusfed could always give her 53 PCS :drama:

If she deserves it and outskates someone from the 3A, I'd love that because she's such a good skater, but that would be very hard, and the fed might have another girl they want to push aside from the 3A.

Plushenko: Anastasia Tarakanova teaches quad lutz and 4t

MOSCOW, January 31 - RIA Novosti, Anatoly Samokhvalov.
Russian figure skater Anastasia Tarakanova learns two quadruple jumps: Lutz and a 4t, coach Yevgeny Plushenko told RIA Novosti.
Fourteen-year-old Tarakanova will take part in the Russian Championship, which will be held February 2-4 in Perm. Figure skater trains with Plushenko and Ksenia Ivanova.
“Nastya teaches quad Lutz and a 4t,” said Plushenko on the phone. “These elements are already being prepared on the ice. There hasn’t been a complete performance yet, but we are getting closer. Everything is very near. I hope she can do Lutz next season and a 4t if everything is in order with health. "
In December, Tarakanova took the fourth place in the Junior Grand Prix Final in Vancouver.
“Before the national championship Nastya is in good shape, she noticeably added the Grand Prix after the Final. The main thing is that she handled psychologically in Perm. But the task for today we put one in front of her is to do her job,” concluded Plushenko. - google translate

I think one of the three will be off the podium. Just a guess, but I think Anastasia Tarakanova will take a slot, especially if she skates as she skated her FS at RN. She can be just magnificent.
It would be nice if Tarakanova go to JW, but looking back, Kanysheva have higher probability to be on podium if 3A makes mistakes imo, since she also medaled at JGPF. But it could go to Tarusina since she's super consistent, but her jumps didnt get high GOE.

So good to see some Leonova love here.. I like her a lot, too.. she's always entertaining and never boring.. although her GP days are probably definitely over even if she continues..

If it weren't for the fact she was in Russia or say japan wouldn't she be good enough to even get two Grand prix assignments. Not everyone is a medal contender at the Grand Prix - like is she better than say Chartrand or at least competitive with the French ladies or say Courtney Hicks, Glenn or karen Chen even right now. I love that she loves skating and hopes she skates on like that Celine Dion Titanic song her heart really goes on.

Do we know who will go to worlds now. Is it my understanding it still isn't decided??? I guess it would have been better had Alina skated better at EUros but it would seem Sofia and Alina have spots and i thought they basically said Liza but is there to be a skate off at the Russian Cup. is there a chance EVvgenia could go - though I think at this point y ou can only send Alina or Evgenia as both right now are unstable. We talkaobut the depth of Russian skating but then we see all the weakness. Kind of sadthough someone like Sotskova is tossed aside like Leonova - not even in the talk for big events this year.

With all of the underrotation dings she's gotten this season and a coach who has publicly expressed no desire to fix the issue, I think Sotskova may be done pretty soon, unfortunately.

It's hard to say until we see the spares skate at the Cup Final, so please wait another month :) It's hard to predict who is in shape. Alina & Sofia should be a lock for worlds.

Masha Sotskova is 2nd spare for Universiade so far, but she has really not been good this season. When athletes get back in shape, RusFed gives them opportunities like Sima and Kovtun this season so the door is never closed :)

Leonova has been good enough to get 2 GP assignments for the last 10 years, but she only got 1 in 2018, and that was as a substitute for Radionova at NHK Trophy where she scored all time high 194+ points. She's still only 12th Russian with that score and Tarakanova and Guliakova can still pass her. So chances for GP assignments for 2019 are low.

Is there anywhere I can find what changes have been made to the scoring system each season?? For example, spirals were dropped as a required element in 2013 and this year it was the new +5/-5-system.

Hm... Anna always tends to perform her absolute best at National events, doesn‘t she? I think she‘ll be fine at Junior Nats.

She‘s also scheduled to skate in the European Youth Olympic Festival, so I think the fed might want her to gain exactly this international competition that she doesn’t have as much as Trusova and Kostornaya. It‘ll be a great practice for Junior Worlds and should easily secure a gold. I think there‘s no way any of the 3A will miss the Worlds unless a disaster happens. Trusova is the defending champion, Alena Junior GPF champion and Anna has just won senior nationals against seasoned competitors. And all three of them medaled at Nationals, The only way they could maybe leave on of them out was if they bombed completely. I hope to see the trio at Worlds even though I‘d like to see Anastasia and the little Alena K. too. But hopefully they (and Valieva) will go next year. :)

I think it would need a pretty good contract lawyer to accomplish that.

I’d be interested in seeing a list of the changes from year to year. That would be fascinating. All the BV, GOE, and level requirements changes throughout the years.

The Russian Federation president Alexander Gorshkov said that the World team will be named after the Russian Cup Final (February 18-22). I think that Sofia Samodurova and Alina Zagitova will be selected for sure (I see Alina not going only if she decides for whatever reason that she doesn't want to or is sick or injured). Alina looked great in practices at Europeans and in good shape. She seems to have an issue with nerves and her confidence that she hopefully will overcome soon. If Lisa Tuktamysheva is in good shape, she probably will get the third spot. She is expected to compete at Dragon Trophy in early February as a first test after her illness.

The only other skater that I believe can be seriously considered for the third spot is Evgenia Medvedeva.

New article about Lena ^^ even though I couldn't get the most of it bc I needed to use google translate[/QUOTE]
Lovely girl and good article. It sounds like she's planning to come back strong. I do wonder what the change and coaches did to her mentally.

My thought about her current program for the FS is that it doesnt have any places for rest. It’s very fast throughout and with all the transitions I wonder if she would have been better off with a program that incorporated some slower sections to give her a breather.

You forgot someone else. ;)

I am sure 99.9% sure it will be Alina Sofia and Liza. They earned their spots.
