2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

There is a new article/interview popping up on twitter, by Trusova's old coach, and I think it is primarily about Eteri's methods, perhaps? Google translate is terrible. I'm hoping someone here can restate the bullet points. It looked like in one part he was saying that Trusova didn't really seem all that talented as a kid, and I would sort of agree-I saw a video of her when she was 8, and it was pretty much meh-she's okay. I don't think I ever would have thought she was capable of what she is doing now.
Not sure the article even says this, but does anyone really think Trusova is miserable? Kids (fan club) scream when she skates and crowd her in Russia. She loves to jump. (no one is forcing her). She seems to thrive in this environment, and I don't think pressure by Eteri has anything to do with it.

The article is very ugly. Volkov's tone is disrespectful to all whom he mentions - Kostornaya, Trusova and her parents, Eteri. I do not like his attitude to athletes. He expressed it in a documentary to the program "Ice Age" - when he said that he didn't like it when the young figure skater was "taken" from the coach. You might think that this is his personal toys! And that they do not have responsible parents.

And I believe that the discussion of the work of a competing coach contradicts professional ethics.

I am very annoyed by these incessant attacks of our FS beau monde on the team of Eteri Georgievna.

I think, from what I can understand, Trusova's father overruled him on training goals, etc., in other words, it looks like he butted heads with Trusova's father and he removed her to a different coach the next day? Seems to me Trusova's father did the right thing. I'm glad Sasha has a parent that has her back. And, it is kind of funny where he says that Trusova didn't like spins, and she still doesn't. LOL. I have never seen her warm up a spin, but that makes me laugh. (Although she does need to work on those spins a bit)

A true professional coach respects the work of other coaches and respects any athlete even more.
It is probably just ordinary envy/jealousy, but some of these people go to great length to bring others down, up to and including trying to harm the athletes.

It's a shame we can now no longer express our observations about Darya's skating on the fan fest.
So here's wishing Darya well in JunNats. :) It will be good experience for her.

She and both of her other two coevals from Eteri's group have been on the podiums a lot this season.
It is unfortunate that Maya was just squeezed out of qualifying for Junior Nationals and Kamila had to withdraw.

To get more information, I read other articles of this correspondent on the rsport.ria . Those of them that belong to the FS are definitely anti Eteri, anti junior. We (the Russians) should be ashamed that the juniors are beating our adults, the OG won Medvedev, the sly Eteri again deceived everyone .. and the like. Apparently in the person of coach Volkov, the journalist found similar views.

Yes, it seems the Russian sports tabloid press is very divided over figure skating. Almost it seems the tabloids like creating "clan wars" like we see in soccer/football, with all the fighting, violence and vandalism.
These young figure skaters are the cream of the crop of our sport, the cream of the nation even. And one should be proud over their achievements or at least be constructive in criticism.

Those tabloids work by creating discord, controversy and scandal to sell copies and attract an audience. It is therefor good that most young skaters have distanced themselves from active participation on their social media.

I always want to ask users from other countries - I am primarily interested in Japan (because Rika) and America (because Alice): do you have a similar, or only we have this happening? In America, is the company against Alice and her coaches? Does the Japanese FS beau monde put pressure on coach Kihira?

Tabloid press is the same everywhere around the world. Scandal and gossip sells, if there is no scandal to sell, they just invent one. :-(

It seems the JPN skaters are backed by important and financially powerful corporates and business. I suppose the power and influence of these companies in society keeps the tabloid press in check. Also I don't know if social media is considered as important in the traditionally orderly society of Japan as we appear to consider it in Europe and the USA.

Yes. The Japanese tabloid have published many false lies about Yuzuru Hanyu, including one where they claimed that Yuzu's jumps are small, smaller than even Shoma's (lol), with pictures of Shoma's jumps photoshopped. PM me if you would like to see the image of their (laughably bad) photoshop.

They've published others like saying that Yuzu is not actually injured, he is faking just so he wouldn't have to skate against Shoma and Daisuke (this year) at nationals, etc.

Can Olympians sell their government/municipality/Putin gifts? Like, can Alina or Zhenya sell their cars or the apartments?

Yes, they can..
Ice hockey player Ilya Kovalchuk sold Olympic BMW X5 and paid for the operation of a boy with sarcoma and prosthesis

Kovalchuk has his heart in the right place.

As if Putin or any of the sponsors really care if their price cars get sold. Young sportsmen and -women are an easy target for thugs and armed robbers, and many have been robbed of their flashy cars and possession, also due to their own nonchalance and carelessness unfortunately. Most will gladly trade their expensive and conspicuous import for a smaller more common car when you have to leave it out on the street instead of in a guarded parking day and night.

The key to a nice apartment in a good district in Moscow is quite valuable though since the pressure on the housing market in huge.

This year, Svetlana Panova's skaters have been achieving some good results domestically (all five below) and internationally (Alёna and Ksenia).

At Junior Nationals 2019, Sveta's Snow Leopards have five ladies:
(Alёna Kanysheva, Anastasiia Kostyuk, Anastasiia Shabotova, Anna Frolova and Ksenia Sinitsyna)

Eteri's Sambo70-Crystal have four, unfortunate that Maya did not quite make the cut and Kamila withdrew with a small injury:
(Alёna Kostornaia, Alexandra Trusova, Anna Shcherbakova and Darya Usacheva).

Sergey Davydov has here Anna Tarusina and Vika Vasilieva.

There is some inside information about Pogorilaya - she works as a couch now - in Tsareva group. It seems there aren't any plans to return to competitions as athlete - atleast in this season.

Ladies' Short Programme starts at 5.30 pm (17h30) local time (Yekaterinburg Standard).

That's 3.30 pm (15h30) Moscow, 1.30 pm (13h30) CET, 12.30 pm (12h30) GMT, 7.30 am (07h30) EST, 4.30 am (04h30) PST

Men's Short Programme precedes Ladies (from 2 pm local);
Ice Dance Rhythm Dance follows Ladies (from 8.15 pm local).

There are different skating factions in Japan just like in Russia. It is not uncommon for journalists acquainted with a particular faction to write negative articles on skaters from another. And there are tabloids that have no agenda other than wanting to stir controversy.

Political games and media are the same everywhere, in that regards Japan is no better. Just recently Javi in an interview on Japanese national TV condemned the amount of lies and rumours spread whilst Hanyu was injured before the Olympics, because skating has become a frenzy in Japan. If Rika starts a winning streak, the tabloids may likely start to target her too.
