2018-19 U.S. Ladies' figure skating

Thanks, Ice Coverage. Of course it would be great to see Mirai compete at Nationals, though the Grand Prix would have allowed her to hone her programs before judges. Anyone know if she's training?

Yes. She has a SP and is getting back to Olympic condition.

Polina just announced she’s planning a comeback Not for this year but for the coming year. It’s on her Instagram.

This is great to read!! I’ve never stopped following her social media and this makes me very happy. She seems like she’s in s good place now. Good luck Polina!! You’ve been missed!

“I haven’t lived up to my competitive potential,” Edmunds said Thursday. “My career internationally has been so short. I really feel like there’s more that I can do, more that I can bring. This time I’ve had off, this physical and mental growth, coming back I can be even better than I was before.”

:yes2:

Based on how these girls have skated, I would send Bradie and Mariah to Worlds. I think they are both bringing some truly beautiful, elegant skating to the table, and Mariah has always been one of my faves. It's a good look for the US. I hope she can pull it together this year. I was heartbroken for her for the Olympics. I never could get on the Karen Chen train.

They definitely already both had a great short, but it’s a little early to choose a worlds team.

I just watched Ting’s SP and I am impressed- I had not payed much attention to her skating before and she was a happy surprise.

I think having just 2 spots for senior worlds is likely a blessing in disguise. I think it will motivate our ladies to fight for those spots- Mariah and Bradie have both payed down good early season skates- now the pressure is on the rest, especially with promising juniors.

I felt Mariah and Angela were lowballed at US nationals. I would love to see her on the World team.

Does anyone have any updates on these skaters:

Haley Beavers
Paige Rydberg
Kaitlyn Nguyen
Emily Chan
Livvy Shilling
Rebecca Peng
Vivian Li

Let's see how Mariah does in the long. Also, I think it's a bit early to chose a worlds team quite yet :)

I wasn’t aware that Mirai was thinking of coming back for nationals, and in all honesty my feeling are a little mixed about it. It’ll be good to see her skate again and I was going to miss going to miss her this season, but honestly, it always worries me when skaters decide to do half seasons.

I feel like it would be better if she took a whole season off, nationals is such a high stakes competition to come back to after being off for so long. The beauty of starting the season off with a challenger is that you have the ability to make some mistakes without long term consequences. Your happy for a skater when they do well at a challenger, but it’s also not the end of the world if they don’t, they have more chances to prove yourself.

At nationals you have one chance, and after not competing all season, Mirai would have to be amazing to go to worlds. But she probably won’t be because it’d be her first commotion back. I just can’t see this being a smart move.

I liked her skating a lot when she last competed, and I think she has developed greater artistry. However, the technical bar is so high now that anything less than she was able to deliver during her peak years won't be enough. Still, I enjoy watching her skate even with watered-down content.

i was impressed with Ashley Lin today at Nebelhorn. i had never watched her skate until today and i was pleasantly surprised. i don't know if this is her first year as a senior, but she had a really respectable outing this week and has a lot of potential. she doesn't seem like much of a head case like many of the other US ladies.

Maybe she wants to go to one last Nationals before announcing her retirement, since she's ruled out trying for the next Olympics. I liked what she said about other people deserving spots on the Grand Prix series.

Ting dropped to 7th, I was hoping she would medal but not meant to be.

Hope she can work on doing 2 clean programs.

Getting a huge SP score can through skaters off. Especially if there is a lot of pressure. I'm really happy for Ting. She got to see that she can nail a clean SP and two opportunities to really test out of her junior programs. She has a case of nerves, but with some experience I believe she can overcome them.

Hopefully she gets a few CS competitions so she can get more international experience.
